This is how I explained to my Western friends when they asked me about durians: "You know the other day we had whiskey? Then we had like dhal, cabbages ,onions and eggs? Yeah, u remember? Imagine you regurgitate that out and mix it with sugar. Now that's how it smells like."

@migrationology At the corner is a non-buffet stall. My friend guided me on how to savor durians like fine wine. So in a table for 4, with a bottle of water, we start off with the D24 durian first -- the basic durian. We did not gorge ourselves (which I was dying too) but had one or two pieces each to appreciate the taste and texture. Then he ordered a grade higher, Musang King, then another higher grade and another higher grade and another, and then we end back to the D24. Beyond description!

Durian tastes and smells very good. Obviously, I'm an Asian. If you eat that a lot, you will end up accumulating loads of latent heat in your body, i.e. your inner body temperature rises. Think of the feeling you get inside of you after eating loads of pepper. Your skin may not be hot but you can feel a lot of heat in your body especially in your stomach. So, what the Chinese do is they normally eat loads of durian with plenty of mangostene, a tropical fruit, to balance the latent heat.
