True, you can't lose any signal. However, especially in older ipod models, the AUX jack would receive interference due to the accessory port conjoined to it. However this would be resolved by using the AUX out of the dock which would typically meet audiophile standards from what I've heard.

The digital signal is usually lost within the iPod dock, as the phono outputs usually used are analogue. However, I can't see how an iPod dock, if digital, would be able to loose any sound quality.

Depending on how you import your audio content into iTunes. If you use apple lossless encoder you'll be all set

most mp3s are distorted already because of compression.. but ill use the 29 dollar cable or the dock for mine..lol

He is talking about a sound system that is $20,000 and up. When you connect an ipod to a High End system you lose about 15% of the sound quality. To someone spending that much money on a system it is simply unnacceptable.

Only if iPods can play FLAC and MAC...

All iPods (except shuffle) can store and play back several kinds of lossless audio.

The final quality is dependent on the DAC and "amp" inside the iPod, but by running the audio out into a very high impedance input stage on the dock, the "amp" inside the iPod is as close to distortion-free as possible, and it is a very very good output signal.

indeed, mp3 compression takes away some of the sound quality of the original, but what the Krell dock does accomplish is that it brings it out of the ipod in the best way possible. Also, in this demo he was using un-compressed files on the ipod, which sounded as good as any high end cd player.

how does it sound though? Mp3s are not lossless, they are compressed and lower fidelity to begin with. do you get any real advantage from plugging it into a krell?
