  • Steve vai is the better guitarist and musician, malmsteen just shreds

  • STEVE VAI OBVIUSLY

  • I think as king of shadows said these people are in a different league, they cannot be compared, its just preference or choices. Only an Eastern Classical musician would come up with higher levels of musicianship than they do.

  • Michael Angelo Batio

  • I love both so I'm going to say it's a tie.

  • yngwie destroyed vai vais playing had no melody, where yngwie has nothing but melody

  • vai can do anything. malsteen is too limited in his style and technique to compare to steve vai.

  • @one2772 fuck you. Randy was a god.

  • once you reach this level there are no losers they are all great in there own way

  • @Dyxtakias Lol maybe, but not in technical skill, not that technical skill matters anyway.

  • Am I the only person who knows that yngwie draws all of his influence from johan Sebastian Bach? Yngwie made it clear that he has never played anyother guitarists riffs

  • @halluci444 buddy bach was a composer

  • @halluci444 And why would he play any other guitarist's licks? J.S. Bach is times better than all of them put together when it comes to composition!

  • There is no fucking comparison. Malmsteen is a Chimp fetus, Vai is King Kong

  • Comment removed

  • ive listened to Steve and Yngwie, for a very long time now, they're both great and awesome and all that kind of stuff, but i think Yngwie wins, not only for beeing Swedish.

  • Who cares whose better? They're both great musicians. End of story.

  • Joe has more creative ability in 1 album than either of these guys collectively

  • The difference is Technique, not Greatness.

  • @fiddygalic You are a moron

  • stop with these videos, you can't compare 2 different styles, anyway i find vai more ARTISTIC in the word's true sense,he makes really guitar breath

  • In my opinion they are both technically brilliant but sound like shit.

  • @TheJimtube123 your fucked

  • Malmsteen is incredibly boring. All he does is go up and down the same scale insanely quickly. Vai's music is more complex, more difficult, and utilizes varied techniques like sweeping, incredible tapping, and great use of the trem.

  • Yngwei wins. In his up there with Les Paul, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, etc, are second tier. Put Mark Knopfler in the upper tier, as well.

  • @fiddygalic no, thats fucking stupid

  • @ccmoyls Please explain why that is fucking stupid, smart guy!

  • @fiddygalic what am i? a professor? malmsteen is a hurting bastard

  • Malmsteen all the way

  • every guitarist has his style of music. Don't compare them every time.

  • They both are beyond amazing. But I would have to go with Steve. He plays with such emotion, and nothing else can match that as a guitar player. Not even speed.

  • i like malmsteen better but personally i really do not believe the vids chosen for vai to compare with did him any justice at all

  • Malmsteen is better than Vai without doubts

  • Malmsteen is the king!

  • mamlsteen is our mozart's time

  • u can never dompare guitarist like atlits swimming or running.. :) just as simple as that,,,,,and that never gonna change until the dooms day.... lol

  • Comment removed

  • I've been around players that would melt your mind. SOOO many GREAT players and I NEVER compare them. I have seen UNKNOWN players just as masterful as any known player. It doesn't make sense to pit them against each other. You would miss out on just the enjoyment of listening with an open ear. Everyone has a bad day once in a while too. JUst love the music and appreciate the talents of those before you.

  • ddddddddddddd

  • i personally prefer steve vai, mainly because it seems like malmsteen is mainly a shreeder guitarplayer utilizing all of the scales. although its quite impressive, it gets old pretty quick....now in my personal opinion, i think chris broderick is up there too. not only can he play right with steve vai, he can play virtually any style flawlessly...this is only my opinion though, comment with your thoughts!

  • what is the first steve vai song called? cause it's fucking AWESOME

  • Steve Vai Obviously. All Malmsteen does is shred. It's boring.

  • This makes me want to hear more of both artists. I have been playing guitar for over 40 years. At least SV sounds close to rock. Yngwie is so operatic, they are both too operatic to me. To my ears both guitarists emulate a harpsichord kind of effect. A battle of fast scales and blistering arpeggios only goes so far if the solos sound like chamber music. Vai wins but they both sound too clinical ... ----just my opinions

  • For God's sake people. Yngwie is a tremendous technician. But the music he chooses to play & write is not deserving of his technical skills. I don't like his music at all, but he is a virtuoso for sure. Steve Vai is both technically and creatively talented. Yngwie maybe also, but his music only proves his technical prowess. Both of these gents,Yngwie in particular, could learn from Slash. That guy can create something beautiful, moving, and emotional with the simplest of technique.

  • Neither of them know any chords. Wankvay cannot play with a band. i saw him once and all he did was play a 45 minute boring ass solo and ran around sliding on his knee pads. Vai just has sex with David Lee roth.

  • Steve vai is the best

  • forget them... EVH FTW!

  • Damn you classical music, look what you started!

  • Like I said to they who make the rules in music especially rock WHY does everything have to be Versus? Every STAR is given its own time to SHINE !!

  • why so many haters about shredding... There's not just blues and hardrock with all the same progression over and over, u can call shredder also a jazz player i mean it's ridiculous..

  • @Zenhjin Its just that the emphasis is taken away from creativity. That's my general beef with it, and I love metal.

  • @34methylenedioxy but actually emphasis it's in blues, it's in jazz, it's in neoclassic metal. If there wasn't shredding we would miss a lot of genres atleast about metal, i mean it's just development of music. Let's take for example screamo and deathcore they have surely death and melodic death influences and who isn't into metal a lot say that groups like BMTH or avenged sevenfold are death metal, it's new wave from something already discovered and known. Dislike shredding u dislike also jazz

  • @Zenhjin I see what you're saying. Although I completely disagree about the jazz and shredding because some of my favorite Jazz artists are from the 30's and 40's and shredding isn't an aspect of their music (i.e. Billie Holiday). Guitarists like Yngwie and Via to me are just boring. They are amazing instrumentalists, but not that great at writing music. It seems like they always use stereotypical 80's power metal riffs, then shred over whatever key the riff is in. Although Via makes funny faces

  • @34methylenedioxy ye ok, but it's ur own taste, i mean if we take a look also on modern jazz i bet u can't find anyone who doesn't shred, and if they don't, it's on purpose. All the great name of jazz/fusion are masters of technique and shredding, example frank gambale or greg howe or pat metheny, i mean all big names, then it's a personal choice to play as shredder or not.

  • @34methylenedioxy and maybe a lot of people will say jazz is not shredding, jsut because it's "jazz"

  • steve vai can go fuckin home... compared to yngwie he just looks like an ass.

  • @cssNuramoN And you're just a retarded kid who, apparently, does not seem to understand the fact that they both have reached a level where it's extremely difficult to tell which one's the best because they both have flawless technique but each one of them has his own style, so theoretically, they're equally good, considering they both can play each other's pieces with no mistake. At this point, it's just a matter of preference. It not like we were comparing Yngwie and Slash... lol.

  • q buceta eh essa q esses kra arruma com a guitarra vei

  • ynwgie!!! yeah

  • where is malmusteen in 3g why is not there, what is the fuck clip this

  • Vai Vai Vai...Not even a contest.

  • yngwie malmsteen

  • PAUL GILBERT!!!

  • There are guitars first level, second level and third level these are beginners in the major leagues, enjoy

  • i´m a big fan of shredding, i don´t think shredding is crap ;)

  • I agree, shredding shows nothing except how well you can play scales. Melody and musicallity is everything. how you work with the rest of the band is, pardon the pun, instrumental, neither stand up to Eddie Van Halen!

  • @IronMaidensVideos I don't know if you play guitar, but I've played for 30 years. The clips this person put together are crap. Both guitarist are better than these clips show. Yngwie has a great medieval sound to his songs and Vai brings so much emotion through his playing. Hendrix built a platform that Van Halen stood on. Eddie built a platform that both Vai and Malmsteen stood upon and more guitarist to come

  • @themiamatrix

well i'm not as experienced as you are, but look at the stuff malmsteen ist playing. 90% are licks which are actually pretty... easy. only 3 notes forward and backwards. that's all. maybe a bit of tapping between the runs.

steve vai playes much more difficult stuff, playes the licks/riffs he playes much cleaner. he's a wizard. and he uses far more articulation as yngwie malmsteen. it's just like a mystery effect. you listen to a song and finally a lick appears where you think:

  • @themiamatrix what the hell is he doing there? .. i didn't sense anything of that as i listened to malmsteen.

My choice is Vai! for being absolutely fantastic...

  • @themiamatrix Buckethead then is the....... I suppose.......Steve and Yngwie'ss child?

  • @themiamatrix You're so full of shit. Vai and Malmsteen have taken nothing from Van Halen. Neither of them have listed Van Halen as an influence. If you knew anything about guitar you'd know this. Yet, ignorant fools thumbs your comment up because they wish what you say to be true. It's quite sad really. 30 years my ass.

  • @themiamatrix Been playing for 30 years now, as well I.M.V. To compare any player to another is ridiculous. There's no continuity in categories. What would you judge them for, when they are both so well practiced and unique to themselves. I've seen YJM tear it up and Steve just blazing with the fire. Who's better? They're EQUALLY masterful.

  • @themiamatrix You are absolutely wrong about either of these guys being where they are because of Eddie Van Halen. Steve Via played with Frank Zappa, and Yngwie was influenced by Richie Blackmore the original Bach rocker. I suggest you listen to early than Machine Head Deep Purple stuff like Deep Purple in Rock or Fireball.

  • @egcroan You missed my point. Each guitar god has created platforms for others to build. Malmsteen and Vai are where they are because of a string of event. It may have been Chuck Berry creating a new sound and making it mainstream which eventually led to Hendrix and other 60's rockers which led to Van Halen or Rainbow or other 70's rockers which led to....get it. Vai is not "better" than Malmsteen. They both are different but equally good and built a platform for the next generation to build

  • @IronMaidensVideos Your statement is contradictory. I like Eddie much more than Vai, but Eddie's lead playing is nowhere near as melodic as Vai's. Vai can be too flashy at times, yes. But listen to "For the Love of God" and "Blue Powder". EVH has never played that melodic. And there are handfuls of shredders who have taste..Marty Friedman, Dimebag Darrell,Nuno Bettencourt, Chris Poland, Rob Caggiano, Joe Satriani, Kirk Hammet, Glent Tipton, etc There are plenty.

  • the thing is... they are both freaging awsome... but i belong to malmsteens generation.... which is why i love hes solos/songs and gets my vote

  • In my opinion, Steve Vai is the world's best guitar player, if we look at the whole performance as a musician. If we only focus on the technical part, Malmsteen is the best.

  • im burning this to an mp3 :)

  • 1) eric clapton 2) jimmy hendrix 3)jiimmy page 4)BB king 5)john petrucci 6)eddie VH

  • @MrFrancox44 Is that the list of the top 4 less skilled guitar players ever or what? ;P petrucci and eddie VH are not bad but dude, wtf?! where is Vai, malmsteen, p. gilbert, al di meola, paco de lucia and all the others skilled guitar players?

  • @KingOfShadows1500 oh i would try to ingnore your comment

  • @MrFrancox44 I would delete your if I was you, because it makes you look ridiculous ;P

  • @KingOfShadows1500 i would kill my self if i was you

  • @MrFrancox44 i would learn more about guitar skills if i was you

  • STEVE VAI!!!!!!

  • Slash more awesome .

  • im a die hard Iommi fan but unmistakably Ingwie rules as a purist! thank you for ur insight! +++

  • Buckethead is CLEARLY the winner

  • RALPH MACHIO

  • malmsteen is all passion. i just don't hear that intensity in vai's music.

  • I like Malmsteens tone more, yet Vai is more versatile. It just comes down to taste. They are both masters!!!

  • 3:45 onwards pretty much sums up malmsteen: prodigious talent, complete lack of sophistication

  • i dont understand why people are still comparing..

its clear, when people think Vai, they always have this in their mind "hey, what's next, ?'(of course, bcoz vai is creative)

but when people think yngwie.the will think automatically "oh i can guess, that stuff again and again.." (of course yM is not too smart in music, he just have circus fingers..)

  • I favor yngwie, simply because when he shreds, it still sounds like guitar. When vai shreds, it sounds like video game noises.

  • Steve Vai!

  • my dad

  • no one wins

  • Steve Vai because of versatility. Yngwie is a one trick pony.

  • ...Yngwie by far.

  • pfft...this is easy to answer....Styngwie Vaisteem...

  • If Strats were women they would be the most used and abused hookers in the world, but loving every minute of it !

  • None of them wins. They play completely different style.

  • lol That triple guitar looks ridiculous. And not in a good way.

  • 2:07 Guitar-gasm

  • Steve Vai

  • My decision was made in about 5 seconds... Yngwie.

  • Skwigaar Skisgelf wins !

  • Steve by far.

  • Randy Rhoads XD

  • Did anyone else than me click this video cuz of the tripple guitar?

  • i love Steve Vai but i think Yngwie wins

  • shredding is crap and ruined entire generations of young guitarists

  • @steptb2 why that?

  • @steptb2 ur a dickhead and know not what you're talking about! Shut the fuck up!

  • @steptb2 It's not their fault todays guitar players blow cock.

  • @steptb2 agree with you. although this two guitarists have made shredding to sound as an art.

  • @steptb2 I have to agree with you man. Shredding is not musicianship. If you can't write killer songs you are DONE.

  • @MrArtist1971 coz u are crap

  • @steptb2 it depends on how you aproach it. There are tasteful shredders out there. However i won't say you are totally wrong because a lot of music has suffered because people care too much about speed.

  • @steptb2 coz u are crap

  • miracle of yvgwie fingger...

  • R M Tocak is the best

  • @RMTocakforever man no thanks!!

  • @laiholapso Man have you ever listened the entire songs? Cause It's amazing how man plays not with his head but with his heart.

  • @RMTocakforever yeah I understand what you mean but its not like its very harmonious.

  • @laiholapso Check this one out ( /watch?v=-GPM1cFEJ_k ) it is from the same guitarist ( Radomir Mihailovic Tocak) and if this is not harmonious I dont know what is XD.

  • @laiholapso Look at this ( /watch?v=Z6vF-5R0KNs ) Nightwish stole "Aria Diamond" (and renamed it into Crimson Tide or something)

  • @RMTocakforever better, jet it requires a peculiar taste

  • @laiholapso That is true but it is the same with all famous musicians. For example my dad thinks Hendrix was just a psyhodelic junky - which he was, but without that junky people in my country would be listening to this /watch?v=cAZFCn3bl1E&feature=related in the period 1970-2000 instead of Tocak - cause Tocak turned to rock when he heard Hendrix. Sadly nowadays people returned to that folk nonsence. And...

  • @laiholapso I recomend you listen to Tocak's famous songs - Bluz u parku; Ukor; Zajdi, Zajdi; Plava pesma; Sumadijski bluz; Blues od vina; Biska 2; Juzni voz; And if you are up to harmonious things look for El Dumo; Nevidljive terazije; If you're up to hard stuff look for Ulazak u harem (album Live Without Audience); Biska 2 (1975); Perle (intro); Crna dama (Black Lady is version on english) ; I to je za ljude; If you're up to something emotional Zajdi, Zajdi; Plava pesma; listen ENTIRE songs

  • Steve Vai

  • petrucci win XD

  • yngwie kicks steve vai ass!!! yngwie is the best!!!

  • Why does it sound like they'll start playing eruption when they hit the first chord?

  • Those pants trump all.

  • ygwie just have speed to compare... and abaut this only thing he has (speed), hes not the speedest i thik, hes just ALWAYS' do it.. Vai has great alternate speed picking too. but he does not make it to the most important in creating music... its not my opinion, its a fact.

  • Yngvie is soulless cretin with fast hands and classical music catalog in his head. Vai is an artist. Like Satch, he turned shredding into something more than mindless speed. Yngvie is dime a dozen. Ill take the Italian Virtuoso any day.

  • Yngwie!!!!! He has a better tone and more emotion.

  • what is the solo that steve plays in this video? and btw steve gets my vote

  • Yngwie's all about his speed picking while Steve is just focused on sounding amazing. They're both amazing guitarists, but Steve gets my vote

  • Steve for the win, but, can they play smoke on the water?!?!? Would love to see that! ;)

  • yngwie

  • 0:52 Guitar Masturbation

  • @Metin2xOx HAHAHAHA LOL UR RIGHT

  • Any professional guitar player should bee able to put emotion in his playing. The extreme speed of Malmsteen puts him on top of a different category. Comparing them base on clips from different genres cannot be done

  • INGVAI is the winner

  • how fast you can play doesnt much for me, its how much soul you can put in to the sound that counts

  • I agree with BoggieXIV...

You cannot compare guitar grand masters. You cannot compare perfection.

  • @neiltap YES!!!!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jeff Beck is a better guitar player than both of them!!

  • Vai!

  • These are both amazing guitarists. Better then me. Better than all of you. Vai has more feeling in his music. Even when he shreds his runs have these accents to them that give it feeling. I'm not saying Malmsteen doesn't have feeling. He has a fuckload of it. Its too hard to compare two guitar virtuosos. Two guitar legends. It'd be easier to compare guitarists like Kirk Hammett and Dimebag Darell. (Dimebag)

  • hhmmmmm......Jimmy Page!

  • At least Alex Lifeson isn't anywhere near as annoying at these two!

  • yngwie seems more "note" professional, but his tone sucks. fenders are only good for blues and lame alternative rock. vai just has that God given thing and it seems like insane speed and displaying knowledge of classical music isn't as important to him. its kinda dumb to demand whose better when theyre so different

  • Yngwie sucks. He makes classical music sound so fuckin' cheesy.

  • No feeling !!! Just notes!!

  • @a64tbird Im sure feeling it...

  • even the idea of comparing these fine guitar players is beyond duh duh........they both have a totally different background, style and playing....you must be a total moron to compare these two........like comparing a cigar from Cuba to a Lemon Juice coming from Greece......as in...you are a total, stupid Idiot.

  • its funny cause they are both horrible
