omg...do it with a harpsichord or leave it out - and play what is in the score. There are many notes - organpoint - at the beginning - why are you "playing" it on every beat - it sounds .... more than terrible and ruins the piece! ... thats why there are harpsichordist and no piano player all over rthe world learning, studying and playing harpsichord!
everybody should have the right to play Bach like they want and when your hart is into it you cannot ruïn this piece. Great job, I know how difficult this is to play!
I have to play the first minute and a half for an audition ...like tomorrow...and I am going to own it, cause im going to practice it for 6 hours starting like.....NOW!
I would like to thank all the people involved in this clip for the immense pleasure I feel when listening to it. It is played by people who love music. There are so many recordings of Bach, but you give it new life.
I suspect that the lady on the piano/harpsichord is the motivating inspiration, and was there to encourage, mark time....the whole movement had the ENERGY that is lacking in so many other recordings...
FYI: The viola da gamba, meaning "viol of the leg", is also called "viol" or "gamba", but not "da gamba". The viola da braccio, meaning "viol of the arm", is more commonly called a "viola".
This piece actually calls for two bass gambas.
If you look closely, you can 2 additional viola players standing behind the principal viola player on the left. Those 2 additional viola players are playing 2 bass gamba parts.
In this piece, as in most Baroque music, there's no written out harpsichord part. There's at most some figured bass notation(numbers that signify chords) to guide the harpsichordist in improvising an accompaniment. In this arrangement, the keyboard player is probably just clunking out an accompaniment supplied by the editor.
It is very difficult to play continuo well. Not even years of keyboard experience is enough without years of continuo experience. Even then, the art demands the mind of a composer, not only a competent performer.
I assume this is an arrangement. There are no viola da gambas playing that I can see. What instruments are you using for the gamba parts? It's a lovely performance, but the harpsichord is really really irritating. Can the player do nothing other than tap minim beats? :)
My Mom, Grandma, and I are going to play this for my senor year. Mom and I are the Violist and Grandma is going to be the pianist. Right now my school orchestra is playing Brandenburg Concerto No. 3. It's sooo fun!!! You sound great keep on playing!!!!
Anyway, you played excellently. You must have had the microphone right next to you, because the viola stood out above everyone else. :) What a great thing! I so need to pick up my viola again. I should lock up my violins, that way I have no choice but to play the viola.
Wow, that was awesome, Meola. I finally subscribed. Every couple months I actually go into my account and remember "Oh, yeah, I have Meola on my friend list. Let's check to see if he added anything." But actually, I found this video searching Corelli. Heh.
