  • Tony Vincent is FITT! :*

  • Whats he got his hands out for does he think they will just stop fighting or summat?

  • @RachelLittle2010 Yes. Jesus wants things to be peaceful. Unfortunately for him, Simon and a lot of his other followers don't agree - they want him as the messiah, to lead them against their oppressors. Thus Jesus' 'be calm' gestures, and Judas' 'told you so' expression. (As Judas warned Jesus this (among other things) was going to happen in Heaven On Their Minds.)

  • Frankly, I think this version of "Jesus Christ Superstar" did a much better job of capturing the spirit of what many people were expecting and hoping for from Jesus...and why they turned away from him (he didn't fit their image of what he should be). It highlights the way in which even today, many Christians (rather arrogantly) twist the Scripture -- usually unconsciously, but not always -- to fit their own egos and desires instead of twisting their own egos and desires to fit the Scriptures.

  • @OreadNYC I agree. This play really captures the horrific tyranny of the Empire, and shows it explicitly, instead of implicitly. The 1973 movie just has people saying 'o Rome is terrible. woe are we.' This play shows them to be a pseudofascist group of oppressors. Its not as easy to dismiss Simon in this play as a crazy person, as it was to dismiss the disapperating dancers in 1973.

  • Why didn't they use those guns before? -_-

  • wonderful! :)

  • Bah, in this musical have misunderstood everything. Miss the old one

  • I find myself seeing the protesters as the 99%

  • If Shredder/Darth Vader/Cobra Commander had a child.. He would have been one of those soldiers.

  • Sigh. Tony Vincent is love <3

  • Lol the bob marley t-shirt.

  • this is the saddest song of the whole musical.

  • a pity that it cut before 'Poor Jerusalem"

  • Jérôme Pradon (Judas) is the only reason to watch this production.

  • I love the fact that in JCS, Judas is the only one who actually GETS Jesus's message. Ironic... and kind of fitting.

  • I LOVE HOW HE HAS A CROSS TATOO LOL!!!! THE BEST:)

  • Okay does anyone else think that Simon kinda looks like Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer Just sayin

  • Anyone else think that the soldiers look like Darth Vader?

I love Judas's reactions in this version.

  • I love the fact that Simon has a cross tattoo and christianity was being invented all around him.

  • @vidfan69 Perhaps Simon's tattoo symbolizes that crucifixion was the execution method romans used for rebels, despised enemies, criminals ...

  • When Simon says, "Christ!" at 1:32 I think he's swearing, and then I'm like, "Oh, yeah..."

  • tony vincent is amazingly hot

  • I like that Simon's got a tattoo of a cross...BEFORE Jesus's crucifixion. Isn't that like having a tattoo of a gallows?

  • tony vincent is a hunk

  • es zelotes

  • When did Simon get a gun? XD

  • its funny that thay have heavy guns in 25ad.

  • 1:22 Benjamin XD

  • 1:22 Benjamin form Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

  • I love how people are upset they filmed another version of this. Its a play people. New productions of it is kind of the point. The fact they made a film version of one of them is not an insult to the original. If you hate this version, why bother search it, watch it, and post your hate in the first place?

  • So Simon has a cross tattoo....even though at this point in the play they had no idea jesus was going to get crucified?

  • Comment removed

  • J.C. Superstar 2000 SUCKED! Since when has a remake ever been better than the original? Huh? NEVER that's when

  • What does Jesus whisper at 2:26?

  • @JAyala7293 he just says "hush"

  • I like the different rendition of the song in this film. It's a much more modern take on the show.

  • lol simon really has a cross tattoo?

  • @DannyGlumsPhan and tony vincent was judas!!!

  • TONY VINCENT!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lindsey618 smokin' hot babe he is

  • i want one of those guard trench coats

  • Wow...I don't usually say this but...that was pretty gay. I've only seen scattered clips from this. I love that Jesus is just kind of silently whining but not actually doing anything. "No guys...c'mon...oh...don't do that..."

Also, that Simon (Sugar Ray perhaps?) has the craziest crazy eyes I've ever seen.

  • i love that one of them has a bob marley t-shirt

  • Uh...I don't remember Jesus' followers beating up a swat team from The Matrix in the Bible...

  • @clarinetchum thats because you havent read the Bible

  • I love how Tony Vincent just appears from the floor as he starts to sing!

  • and now the roles of jesus' followers will be played by the local lgbt community

  • @MrHenryFogg And isn't their harmony beautiful? ;)

  • @MrHenryFogg well... Jesus did preach to the Sinners instead of the holy... they were the ones that were glad to get his forgiveness, and one of his closest followers (Mary Magdalene) was a prostitute before she met him

  • @MrHenryFogg

Wearing a Bob Marley tshirt doesn't make one gay.

  • I was waiting for them to pull out lightsabers the entire clip.

  • i didn't mind this version but overall the 1973 version of JCS beats this 2000 version :/

  • This production appears to be a little Gay.

  • Those Roman guards look like they belong in the Star Wars movies

  • Simon... goddamn he's got a voice...

However, his military strategy is sorely lacking... 50,000 singing and dancing disciples against the entire Roman army? The last time someone tried that... who was it, Spartacus? The Romans lined the road from Vesuvius to Rome with the Crucifix's of every single captured rebel...

Yeah... Sorry Simon, but you were never intended to lead a war against the Romans.

  • I don't get why is this version so critisized......it's amazing!

  • Tony Vincent is an incredible singer!!!!! :D

  • Romanes eunt domus!

  • maaaan Judas is so cool :D Jerome Pradon is a great actor

  • So much better than hippies jumping over the horizon! I love this version!

  • @1066anglophile This version wouldn't even exist if it weren't for those "hippies"...

  • @1066anglophile Honestly I would watch what you say... Cuz I got enogh money to fly over to the US and... well, you know the rest... Plus, Hippies are much better than some wannabes who are trying to walk in Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson's footsteps. But that guy playing Simon is a damed good singer.

  • Why does Simon have to be so hot? >.< It's not fair.

  • Oh God! It's so late 90's/early 2000's I can't look away!

  • @Chico9569 exactly. I can spot at least 3 tops I wore in high school in this clip alone, and I totally rocked those thick braids at one point.

  • Notice 3:01-3:06 he gets down that ladder faaaaasssst!!

  • I prefer the original to this.

  • The version captures the gospel sound of the piece far better than the 1973 production. That version had everyone moving around so much that they couldn't stay in sync, and the mixing didn't balance the voices very well.

  • At 0:23 is that AVON BARKSDALE!?

  • omg, love it!! but: why do they look like darth vader?! :DD great ;DD

  • Kann mir jemand erklären, warum Victorinox Werbung bei Jesus Christ Superstart macht :O? Strange.

  • this is so much better than the movie version... just listen to simon's voice!

  • @CarrieisAwesome2493 yeah they act like vintage Jesus Freaks...

  • what the crap is this. Why mess with a good thing.

  • ok...he basically already has the outfit...now just dye his hair black, shave half of it and put on some eyeliner and BAM!!! St. Jimmy in biblical times..

  • I like crazy dancing monkey Simon more than violent army Simon.

  • @audreybear1997 I agree...check Tony Vincent's face at 1:54-1:57 and 2:04...what a babe :-) ...(Before he starts toting a gun, btw)

  • my music teacher is in LOVE with simon and its ironic that i have music class today

  • Judas is so win :)) and he doesn't even say a word. He looks so pissed off!

  • the original is much better, but this isn't horrible

  • i gotta say, judas steals this song. his facial reactions with jesus during the opening is priceless!

  • I'm in love with Tony Vincent at the moment... hmm thats not good considering hes what late 30's? lol

  • I love Jesus' random point and "SIMON."

it's like, uh...yeah, Jesus, that IS Simon.

  • @700krankaf I think it's maybe more of a caution, like Simon, I don't want this...

  • @700krankaf I think that was more a "Simon, you..." kind of thing :P

  • Simon is hot! lol :P

  • Simon has a tattoo of a cross...but Jesus wasn't crucified yet... :O

LOL SORRY JUST HAD TO POINT IT OUT XD

  • I don't know why everyones hating Tony. He's fantastic! Please I implore you listen to him as Galileo in WWRY you'll see how truly amazing he is.

  • I love how the guns symbolize the violence and anger Jesus was trying to get rid of but that his followers are trying to push on him =D I love symbolism

  • I've always wondered what Jesus is saying as he puts his hands over the crowd in the beginning

  • @truecolor101

    He says: Simon..

  • Watching this after seeing the original is like watching a baby being murdered by chimpancees. It's just insulting. I gagged a couple of times.

  • Why, God, why?

    This is awful!

  • @oaiturriaga Why God Why is a very god song :D

  • dont care what anyone says, original version never got me crying as much as the 2000 one (:

  • "Glenn Carter as Jesus"

Don't you mean "Glenn Carter IS Jesus"?

  • @blithium He's Brilliant :/

  • Lol, Judas is so disgusted!!

  • original was better!

  • Not a good production, lots of west end actors getting together.Has a very 1970's sho biz feel. But way off that original energy.

  • I think the only thing that I would do differently in this particular scene is keep more distance between Judas and the crowd. I feel like, especially after Heaven on Their Minds, he wouldn't want to be seen so close to Jesus. Fear is a huge part of what drives Judas in the show. But everything else is so amazingly well done.

  • Jesus Christ Superstar 2000 Better without Hippies!

  • Simon is so cute!!!

  • Simon belongs with the Backstreet Boys. Rofl. But I like this song.

  • Tony Vincent's talents were wasted in the movie. He deserved to be Judas in the broadway version.

  • I'm going to say what we're all thinking: Simon is amazingly hot.

  • @SpeshWriter Yes he is ;p

  • @SpeshWriter lmao at times he looks liek a very young Dane Cook.

  • Judas facial expressions throughout the clip is invaluable.

  • @Iamnotthatkindoforc Yes I agree they are invaluable to this intrepratation,he takes on an almost Satan like aspect tempting him to power. While preferring the original which was more of a misguided Simon and flock, this was probably closer to the truth as all of them were trying to get Jesus to fight as that is what they expected from the Messiah.Unlike others I enjoy seeing others vision to a play or a role.If I prefer the original it is always there. It isn't original art if you just copy it.

  • Left vs. Right. Anarchists vs. Fascists. It continues to this day....

  • lol dont the roman guards look like The Shredder from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

  • I wish Tony Vincent aka Simons song was longer... Love staring at him

  • he sang for himself not for the jesus. he sang like he is a singer on the stage. no eyes contact to the jesus. i like the original one much more and more... oh the cast did not dance like the 1973 version. they danced so full of power neverstop. i like the original one..

  • Simon has crazy eyes

  • doesn't anyone find it weird that simon has a cross tattoo when they didn't know that jesus would die on the cross yet and that the cross was like, a humiliation of sorts// it would be like wearing a prison on your shoulder!! now i understand, since He already died for us. but this was BEFORE He died.

  • @CheskaPalabrica That wasn't there purposely. Tony Vincent actually has that tattoo and they couldn't really cover it up. So they just left it, he still has it today (I saw it when I met him.)

  • could someone tell me what zealtos means please? some of us are intrested in the meaning of words

  • This Simon really gets the 'zealot' part of his role xD

  • I love tony, he's so sweet!!!

  • has anyone else spotted the guy who plays Benjamen in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat @ 1:30 ?????

  • @kavtoM

I was watching it today and was like "Wait a minute.. Is that?!" Yes! I'm not going mad. :L x

  • @kavtoM omigod it is! Hahaha.

  • he's hot.

  • They added harmonies to the ensemble sections in this, it's great.

  • offt tony vincent ;)

  • I love the look of judus looking to jesus with a big "i told u so" look xD

  • Glenn... :) Best Jesus ever...

  • Heres a fun question: What would you do with 50,000 zealots?

  • @odin650 put em in a bin :)

  • What does Judas say at 1:57?

  • @TheWildwest666 He's just expressing his dismay at Simon's ignorance - this refers back to the 'Heaven on their Minds' song he made at the beginning - both he and Jesus know this isn't going to end well! NJ.

  • tony vincent is such a babe!!!

  • I don't agree with this interpretation of the show, but I have to admit that this chorus sounds AMAZING.

  • looks like Star Wars lol the 1973 version can't be beaten!

  • @Intidad how does jesus christ superstar look like star wars

  • @plurboy15 the vocals are so much better than that of the 1973 version

  • @EvoConor243 Quite right, the sound is much crisper and clearer.

  • I love the "leave me out of this" look Judas gives Jesus. Jerome has such expressive features.

  • Tony is a very good singer, but I'm really not a fan of this kind of vocal technique. It's far too polished IMO. I do like how this version illustrates the fact that Simon and Co. miss the point completely.

  • Is this a comarcial for usa?

  • Tony made an AWESOME Judas too. ;D

  • Nothing can ever beat the 1970 version but this is pretty good.

  • OMG HOT! This is epic!

  • In my opinion, Tony Vincent is the best singer in this version.

  • are there 2 movies? because i have a movie and i don't think it's this one...

  • @fantasylover42 Yes there is the 1973 version (which from your description is the one you have) and the 2000 version (this one).

  • I saw Tony Vincent as Judas on Broadway and he was PHENOMENAL. He was much better but that original Judas and made the show amazing. I'm sad he wasn't Judas in the movie. :(

  • Which disciple is the guy in the blue beret at 2:02?

  • my favorite number in the show. Love it!

  • Guns? Producer has lost his way.

  • @rocksoli4

Actually it makes sense since the environment of the song is that Jesus needs to lead everyone is a rebellion against Rome, and since this is an updated version, guns seem like a right response. Plus, it's not just the producer, Andrew Llyod Webber wanted it like that.

  • Proud to say that this man, Tony Vicent, went to high school with my choir teacher, and they're still friends to-date. =D

  • @EmceeOfTheBurg Right on.

  • other than some of his facial expressions on the high notes, this is the best ive ever heard.

  • I love Judas reactions to the song

  • @jkimball1970 yeah, me too. something like: "jeez, this idiots completely misunderstood it"

  • I don't know about you but i so would xD

As for the 'over-the-top' acting, its a musical for Christ sake.

    (see what i did there^^)

  • Tony Vincent does not have armpit hair. And this disturbs me.

  • Wait... Is this Jesuschrist superstar or Star Wars?

  • Personly I prefer Tony Vincent as Judas. Reason being he has such a perfect vocal range for the role. The only Judas Ive heard who can hit all the notes perfectly. I'm not saying I dont like him as Simon though, caus I do!

  • @buffalo581 i too think he should have more songs, but i i don't think they will ever find a better judas than Carl Anderson

  • @1989panos I totally agree with you... Carl acts Judas absolutely genuinely, and he is a SO loveable Judas... I adore him in this role.

  • @1989panos spot on. Carl Anderson was flawless.

  • I really really hated this version. Cant quite pin point why, just didnt like it

  • he makes such a good simon, i think this version has the best cast, the only one i don't like is jesus, he looks like a girl

  • wow, as a long time fan of the '73 version, I must say i really enjoy this 2000 version, but not in the same way many on here too. The actors have good singing voices, but the acting is so unbelievably stinky and over-the-top that this version is sure to become a cult classic! It feels like a 1980s poofter fest with Jesus played by Fabio and Simon played by a twinky b-rate porn star. HA HA!! Friends and I will be getting to watch this on DVD soon... WHAT A RIOT!!!

  • the soldiers look like Sith-Lords XD

    Great music!

  • gay

  • 0:33 Looks like hes trying to use the Force...

Interesting to see a much darker version of this song, but i do prefer the other version and i have seen better people playing Simon.

  • he looks like roger daltrey

  • I must be the only one who really can't stand these boyband-esque singers playing Simon who enjoy the sound of their own voices a little too much. It's a ROCK musical, not a popfest. they sound great, yes, but that's about it. I don't get any substance from it. I can't take this version seriously, it just irritates me.
