So, this guy opened a portal to hell. I went through it. He had killed diablo's guards, but not diablo himself. I walked close to him and started shooting.

There was so little time between each arrow that he couldn't move. Therefore, I won.

I got this recently for xmas since my comp can't run games. The graphics are bad, the music stops when characters talk (much to my disdain), and the controls are akward.

Nevertheless, the game is still scary as hell (pun intended), the 2player co-op is a blast, and the loot is as satisfying as ever.

gee i suck at this game alottt..... i cant even get past the butcher (first of many random quests) still, its amazing that every time you start a new game, a new dungeon is created for you and you have DIFFERENT QUESTS!!!! soo bassically Diablo is a game with ALOT of replay value...youll have to beat the game about 30 times just so you can see all the quests.

The memory card requirements and loading times were basically the only serious flaws. Even though there weren't nearly as many frames of animation, the extra lighting effects made up for it.

It's interesting, I always played the PC version, never touched this one until recently.. it plays like a completely different game with a gamepad. The R2 combination system is surprisingly effective, though you do have to tweak the controls a bit. Too bad a used copy is expensive or I'd get it.

@thenchi Cliff notes: That's a Soulstone, where Diablo is trapped and the stone can't be destroyed or he'll be fully unleashed on Sanctuary (the name of the world). The guy was a prince driven insane and the hero drives the stone into his forehead to contain Diablo and prevent him from exerting influence over someone else... only to succumb and become Diablo in II. Eventually he, along with his two brothers, Mephisto and Baal, who were also trapped in the same way, is defeated... for now (D3)...

Diablo's stone kind of disappears as it fully corrupts the Warrior (canon hero) turning him from the Dark Wanderer and into Diablo himself whereas in D1 Prince Albrecht was a corrupted form.

@thenchi Mephisto's soulstone was present yes but no one knows if he hadn't fully corrupted a body or if it was just a manifestation of Mephisto. As a gameplay element it's just there to tie act 3 and 4 (where you'd destroy it in the hellforge to keep him from coming back). Baal didn't drop one but he had a piece of it, the one that was used by Tal Rasha to contain him (when talking to Marius) we just don't know if it was destroyed by the heroes, Tyrael or by the destruction of the Worldstone.

@thenchi EDIT regarding D's stone: actually, no, Diablo's stone was also destroyed in Hellforge as you can see in the ending of DII. Sorry for making that mistake but it's been a while since I watched the videos and something didn't seem right about what I said. @thenchi Vids don't always fill you in, the manuals were much clearer on some aspects as why Albrecht was used as Diablo's body and how. D1 just glosses over these, same thing happens with points in D2's story.

I'd buy D2, it's still for sale with LOD for about 25$/€ and people play it online, patch 1.13 actually came out a few months ago. I bought mine a year ago and haven't regretted it. Getting D1 is much harder (in Europe), had to get mine a couple months from eBay (with Hellfire).
