I am so glad that I found all of you other commenters on this video. I seriously thought that I was the only one who was above the age of twelve who seriously wanted to be a paleontologist. Next year, (when I go to college) I am going to begin to make my lifelong obsession come true.Evolutionary biology and (one day) paleontology grad school here I come.
I met the guy when i went digging in Montana. He's an interesting man. I understand why he doesn't say how we're gonna find out dino colour. It's likely because someone is doing a paper on it and he does not wish for their ideas and findings to be stolen or come out before the paper is published. As for T-rex, there is a big debate in the palaeontological world as to whether it was a scavenger or an ambush predator. There is proof it could have been both, so there you go. Dinosaurs WHOOO!
i dont think t. rex is a scavenger. i do give him credit on pointing out things that may convince or prove his hypothesis, but on the other hand there are many things/features on a t. rex that goes against his theory.
And this is the guy who claims the Tyrannosaurus REX is a scavenger, though he fails to mention that Triceratops fossils have bite mark's that fit perfectly with the Tyrannosaurus, and the Jaw power of the T-Rex out classes any other land Dinosaur EVER, Yup Mr. Horner sounds like a scavenger to me, the man hates the T-Rex maybe it is because through out his life he got tired of little kids asking what a T-Rex ate, I don't know but I wish he would dig up a Tyrannosaurus and it would eat him!
All humans have egos, and are driven to be remembered after they are gone. For a scientist that means making a discovery, or being the pivot in a key argument about some aspect of their field. Few want to be the bottle-washer, button-sorter type, even though there is need for them, too. Scratch any leading doctor, sportsman, fighter pilot or industrialist, you'll find an egotist underneath. It is necessary for them to excel, or feel they are excelling.
are you fucking stupid pain0999, any predator that just gets fresh kills dies out so much faster than scavengers. but if a large, intimidating predator that also scavenged others kills, that would be unstopable, thats why T Rex lasted so long, they didnt take unnecisary risks. wake up, its called survival, not a cool thought dumb shit
@bricbob1986 T-rex was partially a predator and partially a scavenger. It tried to avoid risks however, if it was desperate, it WOULD try and attack something like errmmmm... a hadrosaur or a Triceratops.
I've seen this guy in person. He answered my questions as a little kid after a show. He's extremly smart and nice. When I found out he worked on jurassic Park, I was proud.
I did a book report on him in 2nd grade. He got me interested in dinosaurs. HE ROCKS!! If i do grow up 2 be a paleoentologist ( i spelled that wrong, sorry), i want 2 be one of his students. But that would be in a looooooooong time.
For those who are interested, Dr. Donald Prothero is also a paleontologist - probably the world expert in Vertebrate Paleontology, and he's written several books, one of which, "Evolution: What the Fossils Say and Why It Matters" is absolutely fabulous!!

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get a degree in Paleontology? Ive heard seven long years of colledge? Please write me at my email. If thats true I will just dig dig dig sell sell sell BLACKMARKET.
Hi I am a local fossil hunter here in redding california obviously finding only sea shell fossils: I found a vibrant rainbow colored natualis the size of my fist and looked for it's speices in books and the internet and havent found it. maybe its a new spiecies. the other smaller shell creature's shells turn into a pink paist when i rub it. I think that they are new fossils mybe ten thousand years old or less-extinct from either Mt. Lassen or Mt. Shasta.
I've seen this guy MANY times in so many different dinosaur documentaries and from what I've seen, he comes across a bit of an elitist. I mean, why isn't he telling the interviewer about how we're going to find out dinosaur color? It's not like it's a movie coming out or something! Plus, I've gone on some expeditions with Dr. James Kirkland who even confirmed that the guy is a bit arrogant. I don't know, I think he's a quack for claiming T-Rex is a scavenger.
@a90351cleveland to clarify, I do have to recant a statement I made. Yes, scientists have now determined the color of Sinosauropteryx based the proteins in the fossilized feathers. That's an awesome accomplishment and I applaud them. However, just because someone is a leading member of their field, doesn't mean they're not susceptible to being wrong. I find his most recent claim of Triceratops and Torosaurus being one species to be unfounded and more conjecture than fact.

Jack Horner is brilliant!! I admire his work in finding evidence that dinosaurs have parental care.

Quote from JP3 by Jack Horner:
"T-Rex was a scavenger, and spinosaurus was a predator that could go after T-Rex"
1. T-rex and Spino never lived together.
2. Soooo, what cause the healed bite marks on that Triceratops skull? It can't be T-rex even though the bite marks fit perfectly with a t-rex tooth!
3. Spino was actually a fish eater. Plus small dinos. If he saw a T-rex, he would run away, unless he was one dumb Spino.
Jack Horner has a real hate on T-Rex I see. Why? I dunno.
