Mentioning this one because it gives a great tip for survival. I've also seen many multiple nuclear fission reactions in other footage, such as many RTS and FPS games.

this piece of machinery here is called atomic annie, because it fired 280mm nuclear shell up to 12 miles away, this was developed in the 50's before nuclear missiles or silos were developed, you do know that nukes have been around since before missiles right?

These are made by smoke trail rockets. In nuclear tests these rockets were placed next to the detonation point and fired into the sky a second before it occurs.

As the scientists exactly knew how far these missiles fly within one second, they could later use the smoke lines as reference on photos and film material to calculate the size of the mushroom cloud aswell as its speed of rise.
