  • Always love the early RM b sides especially this, anyone out there been able to decipher the lyrics to this gem, after nearly 40 years i'm still in the dark.

  • I bought this single when it was issued. It's so good to hear it again after all these years. RM were never as good without the creative genius of mr. Eno.

  • sounds like the beginning of hammer horror film lol

  • Call me crazy, but I kinda wish they had KEPT going in this direction....but then, I wish the Ferry progeny wasn't currently earning it's own frequent incarceration, so there you go. (I imagine that's extremely old news by UK standards, but since I'm candid here in Stranada...)

  • @narozzz I sort of agree. Although I did like Stranded a lot, it got weaker and weaker by degree after that.

Check out the b-side of Andy Mackay's "Ride of The Valkyries" for a cracker in sort of a similar vein (precursor to Heroes/Low type instrumental). I've double it up with "Valkyries" on YouTube somewhere. Merry Christmas!

  • @xwsftassell - Back at Ya/Happy New Year!

Country Life is pretty strong in my mind.....although the production is sometimes the best thing about it. But "Triptych" is fascinating, in that it sounds not just like a throwback to Eno-era Roxy, but sounds quite a bit like Eno's solo work of the same period. I almost can't believe he isn't singing in the chorus. If that's just Ferry, he's doing the best Eno impression I've ever heard.

  • @narozzz Yeah. I agree. Some of "Siren" pretty good, too. I hung a left proper when it got to the fretless-bass-and-watery-guitar business.

  • @xwsftassell - Actually, those are probably the LEAST annoying things about Avalon....

  • @narozzz good point about the Eno influences,as Ferry and Eno were using the press to war with each other back then.Apparently,Casanova, from Country Life, is a covert attack at Eno.I'm sure things have changed since then, but it was the heat of the moment.Oh well,it spawned great songs.Regards.

  • @thelyran - Hmmm....."Cassanova" always sounded like Ferry's attack on FERRY to my ears!

  • @narozzz :-D,scathing rocker that one.Used to annoy the neighbours with it,until I discovered Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music. They'd crave Roxy by now.It was also the last of the BIG sounds from Roxy, until the Viva Live album came out, check Out Of The Blue Live and Pyjamarama...that was my first Roxy album, then I got their Debut, still in my top ten,28 years later. But the Eno years, were kind of magical, pity about their egos, and not getting along.Regards.

  • very fucking rare, and it's a pleasure to hear it for the first time in my life at the age of thirty seven as a lifelong roxy music fan, by some strange coincidence.

  • Sounds like it's from the soundtrack of a spaghetti western...

  • My 16yo daughter reckons it sounds like someone is lost in the desert with a saxophone - but what would a goth/punk/emo know?

  • @2HB2HB - "what would a goth/punk/emo know?" Roxy by proxy...

  • @2HB2HB not much

  • I haven't heard this in many years and it's great to hear it again...I still have it on vinyl.

  • An epic song that Roxy Music used to play before and after shows. It's a pity that this is only available on the costly box set "Thrill of it All" that was released prior to the remastered editions of their records.
