  • kinda lucky

  • Congratulations on your new studio!!!!!

  • Guess your not into recording anything but digital stuff then?

  • Beautiful work, DJ13. Would you like to finish my basement for me? ;-)

  • nice

  • I'm so jelly

  • What kind of desk is that?

  • What you doing with big mixers like this, what a function they do?

  • @arnius100 are you joking?

  • Thats an attic? Is temperature ever a problem in the summer or winter?

  • do you need special walls or sumtin?

  • Sick

  • There's alot of Orbs in your photos!!

  • Cool setup man, looks like fun

  • wow dude your recording studio looks awesome i wish i had one like yours, bro!!!!!!

best home recording studio i've ever seen.

  • looks good man......i want my own man cave to do that as well one day !!!!

  • whers the actual recording room?

  • I would love a studio like that.my attic is full of worthless shit which would take years to get cleaned out :(

  • i wish i lived in ur house so u can record me everyday !

  • @kaloqnbg lol that almost sounded sexual . .(joke lol)

  • @edwardgarvin11850 hahahahhahah i know its just that i love studios !!!!! Omg its my dream to work in a studio like this one ! I feel something when i walk in the studio i feel something good///... i know its sounds sexual and strange but thats the truth .... i fell better recording in the studio than having an orgasm .... LOL hahaha

  • @kaloqnbg lol id orgasn twice just walkin in d fukin door lol

  • @edwardgarvin11850 hahahaha lol.... i understand ! :) :P

  • very nice mate- looks like you put in the effort now enjoy it- I would !!

  • @AugustInAdelaide um , what ?

  • @AugustInAdelaide me!!! pm me???

  • how do you record the micro korg? using midi interface??

  • @downsalas Consult the manuals and it will tell you, I never use it that way.

  • @downsalas run main outs into line ins on your interface

  • MICROKORG

  • @pippintoon Hell Yeah haha

  • hey

  • @SoberLifeProductionz Hey whats up? you all good?

  • @D13Robinson not much just trying to record my music

  • I know that toook a while to build

  • @RLBeatz Ages haha.

  • What are the two mixers you're using?

  • @fizk I have a Mackie desk but I rarely use it.

  • AWESOME!!!! YOU INSPIRED ME!

  • @eddysel10 Thank you :)

  • i don't think the size of the doors are practical. It looks awesome though.

  • @xblackiris10x Thank you :)

  • Hell of a good job. Just must be a tad hard to get into it by a ladder, but nice set up. I would make the recommendation that you try to either lower your speakers so that the tweeters are set to your ear level, or at least tilt them so that they point toward your ears.

  • Dude, I would climb a tree to get to a studio like that, it's awesome. Thanks for sharing!

  • thats insane

  • An attic???

Perhaps you can save some money and build yourself a proper studio next time.

  • @throbule Hello Mandrake from Africa, You are totally right. I should have never followed through with this project and built myself a dedicated soundproof space where I could be creative in comfort and moderate style. What I should have done was stick with my non existant space where I could never make any music as that would have been clearly far better and would have allowed me to achieve nothing. Maybe you could help me build a REAL studio next time out of wooden sticks and mud? Serious? :)

  • @throbule:

    You missed my humour man!

Your studio is ace and I'm jealous too.

By the way - I'm not African.

  • @throbule I was actually joking too dude, now that I read it back it does appear very sarcastic Lol - Im sorry, it was NOT meant that way. Hey dont be jealous mate, it took me years to collect my synths and even longer to save the money for the conversion (Im not actually rich or anything). I assumed that you were African due to the nature of your account - please forgive my ignorance Haha. PS - I love African percussion mixed with House or Techno music, it adds a real tribal element :)

  • @D13Robinson:

That's ok, no problems. I work between UK and West Africa, hence the music.

Having read almost all the comments here, I can see that you've had to wade your way through a lot of 'up their own assholes' type characters - I can't say I would have been as polite as you were though.

Well done on the calmness, and best of luck with the future music too.

    Peace....

  • @throbule Haha Thank you mate, you are right though I have had quite a few idiots yes, but for the most part I have had very positive comments from normal people (thank god Lol) which I do appreciatte. Sometimes in life you find that some people regarding music production (and other areas of life) think they know better, and maybe they do? but then you realize that most things count for jack shit because when you do things your own way and it still works out, that was the right way all along.

  • Very Nice! Great use of a small space. I had my setup in a storage building once.... It was hot as hell at times and cold as hell at times but I loved having my own space separate from my family area. I'm still searching for a space for my studio. I'm thinking of buying a shed... I saw a guy on you tube with a killer shed studio!

  • @twinnsoniq The thing is its nice to have a small studio because you feel more intimate with your gear, and personally for me it allows me to be more creative (I hope that didnt sound sexual Lol) - I dont know about a shed though Haha? I know around the area I live, a shed would soon be empty within a couple of weeks Lol :D

  • thats a beast of an atic!! :)

  • @95oswald95 Thank you mate :)

  • Wow, that's awsome.. A little odd I must say for how it's built lol gotta climb a ladder to record but I guess you gotta do with the space you gave right. Does it not get hot up there in the summer?

  • @MacintoshBoy66 Very hot in the summer, but yes you are right, you do have to make do with the space that you have, I wouldnt have aborted the project just because I had to climb a ladder Lol. I was very exited during the building of this studio therefore would have been prepared to climb a mountain to get in anyway, plus the ladder keeps me fit haha.

  • hey would you mind hooking me up and naming some of the equipment i would need to build my own home studio? like for recording only though i really dont need stuff to make beats but recording stufff, thanks man

  • Holy shit!!! huge transformation! Just askin how much if u know was the mixer?

  • @DJEpileptik69 - looks to me like a Mackie VLZ3 -1604 (about $900) or maybe the VLZ3-1642. ($540 to $650 range).

  • @Satyagrahaha It's the 1604, I think I paid about £800 when they first came out quite a few years ago.

  • cool!

  • 5:11 ORGASM!

  • @OwensMusic1 Keep it in your pants lol ;)

  • hey, does that mixer record multiple tracks separately on to the computer and if it does how did you hook it up?

  • @RGBJMD Looks like a Mackie VLZ3 series. They are analog mixers without A/D converter. Nice sound with all the I/Ox a home project studio needs... So, yes, you can send individual channels out separately or through four submix busses. But you'll have to get additional a/d converters to send anything into a computer. Check the specs on a VLZ3-1604. Allen & Heath makes some nice 16 channel mixers in the same price range that have built in A/D converters so you can go right into your computer.

  • why no insulation in the walls and ceiling?

  • @walowalomeme Good question lol

  • Wow, nice. I wanna try and set up my own little thing but I've got nothing near the space, budget, or commitment, required to set up a room ready, let alone an entire roof :P. Plus the type of room on this house means it couldn't be done anyway.

  • how much did this set u back bro?

  • @02392bretthaley Too much mate lol.

  • Oraa pinche albañil jaja

  • @Roelvelazquez I have no Idea what you just said to me lol

  • @D13Robinson jajajajaja

  • @Roelvelazquez Hahahahaha

  • i record in a studio :D do you do any work in there?

  • @AllysAngelz Sometimes I do produce for others on a freelance basis yes.

  • ummm is that really a small door? kinda like willy wonka huh..

  • @christiansmithalone Thats where I hide my chocolate lol

  • nice work!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @777DNAGENESIS777 Thank you :)

  • It maybe hot in your studio but if you keep producing stuff like this soundtrack who cares. Keep it up. Sounds great!

  • Are the KRK's the only monitors you have? i would have a headache to listen to them constantly too long haha

  • @Johnfrooshlover I also have Yamahas...

  • @D13Robinson Oh cool, i wasn't dissing you or anything. I just get a huge headache when i listen to flat response speakers for too long.

  • @Johnfrooshlover Haha - Hey I never thought you were mate, I never get a headache from the amplitude/volume but the fact that you cannot turn the KRK's down complelty does bug me sometimes (it means you have to turn your soundcard interface down rather than phisically turning a knob) - but I do love my monitors more than any other speakers I have used (they are great for what I need). The only headaches I get are from staring at the screen for too long or my girlfriends nagging voice Lol (JK).

  • @D13Robinson Wait im confused. Do you plug your speakers straight into the outputs of your interface? Whats the mixer for then? You could just plug into the master outputs of your mixer. Some boards even have dedicated jacks for monitors.

  • @Johnfrooshlover You are totally right, if you plug the monitors into the mixer then you can have total control over the amplitude/volume - but I am not currently using my mixer at this stage otherwise I would, Im just going straight from my soundcard using balanced inputs for the cleanest and most direct signal route because I have been doing a lot of final mixing just lately (virtual or within the box using software) - and therefore need as little noise pollution as possible. Nice and simple.

  • @D13Robinson ahhhh i understand you now. Well nice setup. Good gear! Thanks for sharing!

  • Absolutly amazing transformation if you ask me!!! Well done man...Looking epic!

  • @ChiiefProductiiionZ Thank you :)

  • since its in the attic, what about A/C? im sure it gets hot in there real quick

  • @djanthonyedwards I wont lie to you - In the summer its too hot - and in the winter its too cold. Summer is fine because of where our house is, the sun only shines through my window from about 1pm onwards (and its really nice having the windows open, with a cool breeze moving the air around) - but winter is RUTHLESS, I have to spend far to much money on heating to take the chill out of my room Haha (its not nice at all) - but mostly I have no problems in general - but yes, you are right to think

  • @D13Robinson - Nicely done. With all that effort in such a tight space, looks like you should go the extra step and put in some auralex sound treatment to kill the sound reflections and refractions I'm sure you're getting. Especially in the back of and on the sides of those monitors. Try it! You'll be amazed what it does for your mic tracking and improving the accuracy of your monitors when mixing.

  • @Satyagrahaha When I get some spare cash I think I actually will install some foam and sort out the last few elements of acoustic problems, I generally dont have many problems, but I do think it will improove my situation etc... I now have isolation foam for my monitors which I didnt think would do much, but actually they made a huge difference and allowed me to mix with a tighter sounding end result, I love them Lol.

  • uau super super ecological perfect genius

  • @bortchy Haha a Genius? Haha... I dont know about that, but thank you anyway - Its a title I could soon get used to Lol :) x (until I mess up Haha)

  • Where did you get the desk?

  • Is this your track ?

  • @Flipjunkie1 No mate, its by BT and is called the great escape.

  • @D13Robinson Hey man , iv'e checked out your myspace and you have some really good tracks ! i dont think you have a problem at all with acoustics your mixdown sounds great !

  • @Flipjunkie1 Hey thanks mate, I really appreciatte your kind words. I feel that some people get lost in science and forget to use their ears (and knowledge) - Like I said to that other technical guy, as long as producers (what ever you want to call us) use our ears and KNOW our mixing enviroment (and monitors) well enough then we should know how things sound (even if they dont sound uite right on the day). There is no point having perfect acoustics if you cannot IMAGINE how 'sound should sound'

  • @D13Robinson Couldn't have said it any better !

  • bro is all of this your effort alone.if so .brilliant...

  • @knithinkumar me and my dad - two of us.

  • Recording studio? Where is the recording room/cabine?

  • @snupcho In another room, the room on the video is a 'control' room, not a 'live' room. to combine the two would have been silly.

  • @D13Robinson Sure. I agree then :)

  • @D13Robinson

    Really silly indeed

  • @snupcho --nice!! looks reddy to go ...jk

  • Once you put all that insulation down was the room completely sound proof?

  • @WrightMusicH No not at all, Inside my studio it is nice and quiet (and suitable for me) - but on the outside bass still gets through and disturbs people!

  • that is an extremely nice listening and working environment! i think it is essential for the studio to be a pleasant space to be in.

  • wow sooper@!!!1

  • Looks very good bro. I just finished putting my studio together.

  • @DRMS4LYFE Cheers mate! :)

  • your work is fantastic end magnifique. very nice . which model is your boxes. please

  • @Shurbovi My hardware sequencer is a Yamaha RM1X (old but great for midi stuff) - I have a roland MC -303, a Korg Electribe EA1, a Microkorg, an Alesis Micron, and I now have (since last year) a Dave smith Tetra, and a Virus Ti Snow... This is my hardware base - and thank you for the kind words!

  • Nice setup!!

  • @madmanjimbob Cheers mate! :)

  • If you do think of embarking on moving around - id highly recommend doing a mock up in sketchup and trying it there first rather than disconnect and moving things around to find it wont fit .

  • @gnarlyswine Ok thank you mate :)

  • If you do have any areas where you arent satisfied with the sound , really have to work on it by ear - or you could even use one of the measuring mics. You could experiment with moving the whole setup around a bit - (I know major pain). Bass traps. Acoustic foam around the head position (sides and above). Adjustments to avoid parralel walls (you might see some of the wall mounted curved panels). Heavy curtains. Its a nice dedicated space though.

  • Sorry , couldnt find where to respon ddirectly to your message (dont use youtube a lot). For the keyboard ergos , Id say the main keyboard at the side looks fine. The smaller modules on the desk though id try to rack mount - maybe tiered system with the other keyboard - I wouldnt want to reach over and down to the Mixing Console. But that may be laid out for the video. If you can you may want to remove the arms from the chair as well (so seat can be raised while under desk if needed0

  • Thank you to all the people who still throw positive comments at my video one year on (I really do appreciatte them) - and Sorry to the people who I do not have the time to reach out and help (my life is very full) - I struggle to find time to eat Haha! Some people have been commenting about my acoustics (saying they are bad?) - I will post a link to my myspace (all made with this studio) so people can listen to where Im at within my mixing etc - please comment - Maybe I struck lucky? maybe not?

  • @D13Robinson Youtube wont let me post links so its the usual my space dot com / DanielRobinsonUK (here you can listen to some of the music I have made using this studio) and will be able to hear what I make within the acoustic space I have!

  • That looks amazing your a lucky man! Well done for sticking the work in and achieving a studio like that. Good luck with your music!

  • @MrPaulwilliamwright thank you for the positive comment! much appreciatted :)

  • nice studio!! horrible acoustics spot!!

  • @naaapster We cannot have it ALL in this life lol :) - Im coping fine though, but please do offer advice if you can - I would appreciatte any help myself.

  • @D13Robinson

Rearrange your mixing position, picture every wall as mirrors and your speakers as light projectors, to truly hear the right amounts of level and frequency your project/mix delivers to you through your speakers, you must arrange the room in a way where mostly everything that reaches your ears is whats coming directly from the speakers and not the bouncing from the walls to your ears. I recommend moving your desk covering the angle instead of behind the wall.

    Hope this helps! =)

  • @naaapster Easily the best written advice on my page, your advice is very clear, thank you mate - I will keep you posted on the progress...

  • AND WHERE DID YOU GET THE DESK?? (please get back lol)

  • @OfficialVictorTV See your Inbox...

  • please please please tell me where to get thoose lights!(: P L E A S E

  • @OfficialVictorTV See your Inbox...

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Vortex4001 thank you

  • Looking again at 5.03 - your tweeters should be eye level (i.e. ear level) as they carry the most directional and detailed information, likewise the top line of your computer monitor should be eye level , you are looking at a lot of sore necks in the future, I know its a balancing act with the desk under the monitor bridge but if you can , you may want to reduce the height of the bridge. Or do you do a lot standing - it sems like the keys on the desk would be awkward to play otherwise?

  • @gnarlyswine My keyboard is in the perfect position for me, could I post you my room specs and see if you could Improve my situation maybe? I will measure my room and tell you everything if you think you can change my room in a positive way? that would be much appreciatted - like you say I may have struck lucky???

  • its nice equip[ment but wont make for a good studio , the low ceiling and close proximity of speakers to the roof/walls will make it an acoustical mess. prepare to do all your mixing on phones.

  • @gnarlyswine My acoustics are fine - Ive had no problems. PS - My acoustics have been revised since these photos were taken - and my monitors frequency response have been adapted to my room - Please dont worry about my acoustics Haha... PPS - Fuck acoustics anyway - my ears are the shiz Lol ;) x

  • @D13Robinson

You cant adapt monitor frequency to the fact that youll get massive standing wave and phase effects as you move your head an inch or two. Equing doesnt make up for that.

  • @gnarlyswine I know mate, Dont teach me how to suck eggs - When I said that my acoustics has been revised since these pictures were taken, I also meant that I have Installed bass traps and wall foam (to take away the symmetrical shape of the room) which could lead to problems, my back wall is completly soft anyway and reflects nothing* - Dont start arguing with me about 'acoustics' because 1 = Im a producer, not a physics geek and 2 = I find the topic boring PS - How would you fix the problem?

  • @D13Robinson

It happens im both a recording engineer and a physics geek. Now i always worry when i hear the term producer as its so often misapplied by kanye wannabees nowadays , but ill take it to mean you are someone who sits in on a session with a band and recording engineer and adds direction to make the music more commercial at the request of the record company. Thats what a producer is after all.

However a producer per-se usually doesnt have a grasp of sound that the engineer does

  • @gnarlyswine

or the critical listening ear for frequency and phase problems.

    Thats bye the bye.

Only real solution is a room with a higher ceiling , the coomed ceiling in itself isnt necessarily a bad thing as it could help to prevent some standing waves but need to be higher - and away from the speakers - you dont want them near surfaces to the side.

depending on the layout of the room it may even be feasible to turn round 90 degrees

  • @gnarlyswine I find it hard to accept that a man with all your knoledge and wisdom is spreading his message across Youtube free of charge, rather than using it to earn himself money back in the real world? If you are who you say you are, then you are silly (although helping people is fine) not to be working right now, Instead of sat at his computer doing nothing - Thank you for your advice though, I will bear it in mind - but like I said, I have had no problems in reality compared to your theory

  • @D13Robinson

Thats ok - I like anyone else cant work all the time. And its before the start of the day for me right now.

My background studied physics for two years at university (didnt graduate that changed to music technology instead) so have the grounding intheory from that , made the whole acoustical part of MT a breeze though. Ive been recording for jeez , 15 years now .

Now youve maybe lucked out - do mixes translate ok to your car stereo etc?

why not post a link so we can hear?

  • @gnarlyswine Hey mate, Yeah sure I will send you a link, No problem. Thats an Impressive academic career you have, Ive had enough of education (too much writing haha) - I know what you mean about Injury - but I like where my things are placed - and my monitors do point towards my ears now (I usually sit in the sweet spot) but placement doesnt matter so much, I move around several million times when mixing (sometimes listen outside of the room) to see how things sound. Its all about my 'ears'

  • @D13Robinson You tell em! lol

  • @j03Biz You wouldnt believe half the people I get on here Haha... If some of these people spoke to me in real life the way they do on here then I would be amused Lol

  • thats dope setup

  • @3musicmakers a dumb waiter

  • i want a recording studio, but I'm only 14 and dont have the money yet.Lol.

  • @baseballguy2014 I'm 15, I hooked myself up with a Oxygen 61 and a torrent of ableton. Cost me no more then 200 bucks!

  • @baseballguy2014 dude don't give up, when I was 13 I bought my first external audio device, I still use it today (now 18) and a few thousand dollars put into my gear in 5 years. Don't wish for everything at once, you'll appreciate what you get when you get it.

  • Yeah you know ur stuff mate u win.

  • @steveworrellmusic Hey Steve, I do understand what you meant though, the bigger commercial studios usually have a box for everything lol - and you can see where the money has gone, they have EVERYTHING - and also a mixing desk as long as my street - but Im happy with what I have, I have enough to make music!

  • Professional???

It's a sweet set up but not sure if what u haves MAKES a professional studio.

    Nice loft conversion tho.

  • @steveworrellmusic Hey Steve, Would you like to clarify what DOES make a proffessional studio then for the guys who dont know? Your Insight would be Interesting and appreciatted. Also - Whether a studio costs one million, or one hundred - a desk is a desk - a synth is a synth - and a sequencer is a sequencer - (only the quality of equipment and functionality of the studio varies) - and the term proffessional relates to the fact that I earn money for making music (not because I have a nice space)

  • Nice im planning on eventually getting a studio but unfortunately im 15 and dont have money for a mixer, mic, software, new computer cuz my netbook couldnt work that well, new synth (well i dont need it but i want it lolz), sound card, monitors, ect ugh we're talking atleast one to 2 G''s here! After i get a car ill start saving for one. I've got a Midi keyboard 88 whieghted keys (Yamaha ypg635) and my guitars (fender strat, old yamaha acoustic, schecter c1 hellraiser) and an amp. Wish me luck!!

  • @hiian123 you're starting out just like me man, keep in touch, I've got all my gear for a few grand, which you can check out on my channel, not to be a channel spammer

  • Hey, i'm only 15 and wanting to be a music producer after collage and uni etc, and looking at your equipment you must of been producing music for quite some time, would it be possible to make a video on producing / recording. And out of curiosity how much did all this cost to make??
