  • @callmejosiah hey next year ima be in gr 10 and will be in a independant school where there arnt any teachers unless u need them for help or something and was wondering if i should get a mac. I will not be getting a new one because of the economy and my parents budget so i will be getting either a referbished or a used one from kijiji. Should i get the used mac and get all the new parts and such or should i just buy a pc.

  • whats that gmail notifier? great vid btw

  • (Google) Notifier is a small app that manages most of the services offered through Google like Gmail, Google Calendar, etc., and it can be configured to notify you of new email, appointments, and other things.

  • hey you have made the best review :) but if for example if i go to the other country will internet work on the macbook?

  • thanks, glad it was helpful! and yes, the MacBook can access the internet in any country, provided you have the necessary login info to gain access to a network...

  • yeah this video made me get a macbook. i'm gonna get it on monday

  • luckky..hah...only 2-300$ until mine..ha

  • I Cant Wait To Get Mines March 21 Or 22 Its A Long Way To Go This Is Going To Be My 3rd Laptop I Had An Acer And A Gateway I Hope This Dont Break On Me

  • if your experience goes anything like mine, I would expect your MacBook to last *awhile*- couldn't be happier with mine :).

  • Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

  • yay 4000th view, nice vid jos

  • thanks man!

  • xD hehe ur welcome

  • I'm thinking of getting a mac as i am a pc user at the moment but can't decide between an imac 24inch or the new macbook 2.4ghz. I am just coming up to my gcse's (big exams in England) and was just wondering if I would need a laptop for taking into school?

  • well, based on the fact that you're a university student, I would suggest going with the MacBook as its portability will very likely come in handy (moreso than the added screen size/power of the iMac)... I keep my MacBook with me at all times while I'm on campus, and it really takes a lot of the stress out of keeping track of emails/due dates, not to mention having a portable with you for word processing/notes.

hope this helped, keep me posted!

  • Great vid, Jon sent me by the way :P

Ima buy one of these tomorrow hopefully

  • thanks, glad you stopped by... great choice with the MacBook, by the way, you really can't go wrong!

  • i also have an imac and i want to buy one of these for portability

  • well, considering it's a very portable notebook, I'm more than happy with the MacBook's screen size/resolution, and it should suit most users just fine... just for the sake of mentioning it, if you're planning on doing any gaming or video/image editing, you may want to look into either of the MacBook Pro models.

  • how is the 13 inch screen is it big enough

  • its fine

  • the questions i have are:

what did u primarily get a macbook for?

is it better than a desktop?or is it only better than a desktop because its easier to take it around campus?

do you do any video editing with it? if so how good dose the mac perform?

and what was the first song you played in itunes?

  • I actually bought the MacBook for a couple reasons- 1) to replace my iMac, and 2) to have a portable computer that i could take with me on campus... I wouldn't say it's better than a desktop, but it definitely holds its weight when it comes to processing power (especially with audio/video encoding). if you watch the second half of this review, I go into a little more detail about performance.

btw- the song I played was "11:00am (Daydreamer)" by 10 Years...

  • I wanna ask where is the speaker? I saw the demo and i was wondering where is the speaker. Is it built inside and we cant see it?

  • yes, there are actually three parts to the speakers, all mounted within the back half of the MacBook (from the A-L row of the keyboard to the vent at the back). if you look closely at the second half of this review, you can see one part of the speaker mechanism at the top left (the black plastic part by the fan).

  • How do you find the screen? i heard that the black levels and colour accuracy are just as bad as the last generation, do you find an improvement? i want to get one of these, but not if it has a terrible screen.

  • to be honest, I can't picture the older MacBook's screen well enough to make a comparison, but I'm pretty content with the screen... it's definitely no 17" MacBook Pro screen as far as color accuracy/screen quality is concerned, but it suits my needs just fine.

  • there's nothing wrong with keeping the macbook constantly charged right? because most of the time my laptop stays in one place and i always leave the charger connected.

  • that shouldn't cause any problems, though you'll want to let the battery run down/recharge at least once every few weeks (for conditioning purposes)... as far as I know, any power coming from the adapter will simply bypass the battery once it is fully charged.

  • if the battery is fully charged it will bypass the battery and run off ac power, so you save the battery's limited charge cycles.

  • great review!

  • good review man

  • Part 2 Part 2 Part 2 ! =]

    Nice video xD

    .vM

  • any idea when the next part of the macbook review will be put on youtube looking forward to it thanks

  • just a heads-up, I uploaded the second half of the review this afternoon...

  • whats the infared sensor for???

  • it allows you to control the computer via an Apple Remote...

  • what is it called?

  • got a question. Im a PC user going to go to MAC, i use outlook for my email.. what program is there to use on MAC and is it easy to setup with the POP3 and SMTP stuff? Let me know!!! Thanks

  • OS X's version of Outlook is the Mail application, and it's just as easy (if not easier) to set up...

  • Yeah I use Mail for all my accounts, i think its a lot better than outlook

  • the built in app called "Mail" should do just fine. It's what I use since my PC to MAC switch the week before christmas

  • whats the song you played? lol

  • "11:00am (Daydreamer)" by 10 Years...

  • In your opinion, is the $300 difference of the 2.0GHz and 2.4GHz model worth it?

I'm thinking of just using the $300 I save to upgrade my RAM to 4GB and i'll still have money leftover lol

  • it depends- if you need the extra speed (i.e. for more than word processing/browsing the internet/light video editing, etc.) and have a need for the keyboard backlight, then the 2.4GHz version would suit you better... otherwise, everything else about either version will be the same.

as a suggestion- if you do go for the 2.0GHz version, I would wait a few months for DDR3 RAM to drop in price, just because most companies are still only mass-producing mid-range DDR2 and haven't transitioned yet...

  • Thanks for the advice. I think I'm getting the 2.0 GHz version and wait for the price of the RAM to drop like you said. I'll probably upgrade the HDD first.

Sucks that it doesn't have a FW port though like my current macbook (I use it for my external hard drive) But I'm not about to spend $2000 just so I can use FW lol.

    Thanks again for the review.

  • ya, that was the clincher for me, too (or I would've gone for the low-end MBP)... my next camcorder is going to be USB-based, so I don't need Firewire any more (though at least I still have FW 400/800 ports on my iMac, just in case).

that said, the 2.0GHz version is still a great computer (you're still getting a C2D processor), and I think you've got a good plan in using the "leftover" money to upgrade the HDD/RAM... good luck to you!

  • the app switcher is much better in vista as it desnt just show u an icon. Live icons and thumbnails

  • see, to some people that feature is more useful than OS X's simple icon view, but if I want to view a live preview or "thumbnail" I just launch Expose (not the "app switcher")... more often than not I actually end up just hitting Cmd+Tab and switching that way.

thanks for not simply saying "Vista is better" and at least giving a reason why you think so... :)

  • do both versions the 2.4 ghz and the 2.0 have the backup light for the keyboard?

  • only the 2.4GHz version features a keyboard backlight...

  • In your opinion would I be better buying a lower end MacBook Pro or a 2.4Ghz Macbook?

    Thanks and I subscribed.

  • well, it depends on whether you need a few things- 1) larger/slightly higher resolution screen, 2) a physical graphics card, and 3) Firewire support... that aside, both notebooks have everything else in common.

    thanks for the subscription, btw!

  • So MacBook 2.4Ghz it is then.

  • sounds good, you really can't go wrong buying either notebook... keep me posted!

  • SOPHIE THE MAIL MAN IS HERE

  • sorry mistake i was sending a message to someone and it went in the comment box

  • haha, I noticed the comment in my inbox and was like "huh?" :)

  • The iMac has a desktop hard disk which is faster so it should be faster then the Macbook in bootup. :)

  • good call, I figured it must've somehow been related to the the better hardware... if a faster-spinning hard drive gives that much boost in performance, there's a good chance I'll be picking up a high-speed SSD for my MacBook once they become affordable!

  • A friend bought a Intel X-25m 80gig drive and installed it in his Macbook and I was surprised how snappier it made the OS feel. In fact it felt much faster then my 2.66 intel iMac - very impressive.

  • great review ,thats a nice machine

  • thanks man, I really couldn't be happier with it!

  • thats what she said at 6:14

  • Pretty Fancy!!! 5star!!!

  • thanks man, glad you liked it...

  • hey, great video! i'm actually getting the new macbook for christmas for college, so these videos are helpful for questions that I did have.

btw: i was wondering if apple offers a free monthly wireless internet? cause a friend of mine got free internet for 30 days when he first purchased his macbook.

  • the only "free internet" deal that I'm aware of is with AT&T and Apple, but I don't think it's MacBook-specific... let me know if you find out any more info about this. glad the video was helpful, by the way.

  • Nice, i want one of those macbooks so bad! I cant wait.. in 3 years my mom said she would buy me a macbook if i got good grades :) i love macs and i would prefer it over windows ANY DAY btw u rule man, your starting to get some fame xD

  • honestly, I think the choice comes down to what someone needs in a computer, but like you, I would prefer OS X to Windows any day... and I can only imagine what Apple's notebooks will be like in 3yrs!

(thanks for the comment, by the way)

  • np :P waiting for part 2 >:D

  • refurb macbook pro or new macbook 20.0?

  • the MacBook should suit you fine unless you need Firewire and/or a dedicated graphics card...

  • awesome video man you should get a into!

  • Great review. If you have a chance could you do a vid comparing your aluminum iMac to the aluminum MacBook?

  • sure, you mean start-up times, processor speed, graphics, etc.?

  • Yeah, that plus what you like/dislike about one over the other etc. I don't know if others are interested in this kind of thing or not, but I am as I'm in the market for a new Mac and even after looking at both and playing around with them at Best Buy I can't make up my mind. I've thought of both positive and negatives for each but can't really make up my mind. Either one would suit my needs as I don't use anything very intesive.

  • not a problem, I'll see what I can come up with...

  • Thanks. It's appreciated.

  • hey, I posted the second half of the review this afternoon (including several comparisons of the iMac and MacBook), let me know if there's anything else you would like to have compared between the two.

  • You did a great job on part two, I think you covered just about everything. If I happen to think of anything else I'll be sure to let you know.

  • hey did you know if you flick 4 fingers up you can also launch expose reply if you knew or didnt know

  • you mean what I did at 7:20?

  • very informative as torgomax sai

  • Nice

  • A very informative review. Well done!
