  • Wow! Aaaahhhmazing. That Horn player is really incredible!

  • Does everyone know that this song was written in memory of September 11, 2001? It really changes the way you look at the song.

  • @rideREDLINE225 Actually no... It's written for a four year old and her family who died in a car accident. The man who wrote this song is expressing his anger and rage to God for how he could let this happen, but he also forgives God, because he knows they're in a better place. This has nothing to do with 9/11 and if you have ever sang the original piece, you know the background. Know before you post please.

Many of the members were able to sing this for the funeral of a fellow choir member's family mother. It is such as touching piece. You all did such a great job with it! I hope that when we perform it will be as moving as you all made it, especially on such an occasion.

  • @OcarinaBrothers Yeah! That was fun! I liked all the songs except skip to my lou... I like that everyone sighed when we had to practice it XD

  • @OpinionatedAngel Lol that was funny, the guys got off sync on our part in the actual performance. What section were you in? I was a tenor.

  • @OcarinaBrothers I was a baritone, though I sung bass at some parts. Yeah, something went all funky during the performance, but overall it still sounded sweet!

  • @OpinionatedAngel You might've been near me then haha. I was in row 11 seat 23 on the left

  • @OcarinaBrothers row 13 seat 29 on the left. So, kinda. We probably were talking to the same people. Because everyone around me, including that direction, were all kind of a conglomerate group.

  • @OpinionatedAngel Okay so you were 2 rows behind me and to the left. You were near Joey Smith i think. What school are you from? Coloma here.

  • @OcarinaBrothers Haha, yeah. i met joey. I'm from Allegan

  • @OpinionatedAngel he said allegan was his new favorite school haha that's what he told our choir director the next day in class

  • @OcarinaBrothers Did he really? Haha, that kid's pretty crazy. I'm pretty sure he hit on our entire choir. Even the dudes. XD

  • @OpinionatedAngel Thats why he was sitting away from the girls haha our choir director did that on purpose. I saw him getting facebooks and phone numbers from alot of people

  • I wish I could've seen the conductor more. He looked awesome. Everyone sang with feeling. Ah. Perfect.

  • I remember singing with this choir, it was an amazing and unforgetable experience. I started to tear up towards the end of the song from feeling the passion of the other singers in the choir. redding gave me a whole new passion for singing and will not be forgotten. I still use some of his techniques today.

  • Redding conducted this piece also my junior year for the Broward County All-State Choir. This song brings chill's through my body when I hear it. Dr. Redding definitely has a gift, and it shows through all these students he has influenced!!! GREAT JOB YOU GUYS!!! <3

  • My choir's performing this for UIL. When I first heard it it made me cry

  • beautiful job. i almost cried. this was truly amazing. good job.

  • Mr. Ames wrote this song for a young lady who attended my high school, and the night we premiered it a really good friend of mine mom passed away. Talk about hard. But it was sooooo beautiful, and Mr.Ames is a musical genius.

  • when i was in hs....i grad in '10...but when i was in choir our choir group sang this song and we only had maybe25 at most ...and we made it sound powerful and we went to the wof festival and when we got to the "oh god" part we all started crying cuz we all trusted each other to go there...and we even made the judges cry...i love this song

  • Redding conducted GA All-State Choir and we did this song, this man knows how to bring raw emotion out from ANY singer, it was so powerful and Ill never forget it!!! and RIP for those who the song was written for

  • this piece i did for my high school choir i relate this song to me i hav lost friends n it hit me when i sang this R.I.P. my friends

  • Not only do the singers sound awesome, but that horn player has very, very amazing tone.

  • I LOVE IT! sounds absolutely amazing. i want my choir to have as much feeling for the song as you guys do.

  • We sang this in class today! SO BEAUTIFUL!

  • I know when I sing this in concert I am going to have tears in my eyes.

  • I sang this song with the indiana all state choir, and omg. to be in the middle of 300+ people singing this is just so breath taking. the power, the emotion. truly amazing. it's like being in an ocean of sound and beauty, and just closing your eyes as the waves rush over you and take you under. you can feel it all around you like the oceans cold currents.

  • @Choirkid55 my school choir sang it last year for a contest type thing, and that was maybe 30 of us. i cant even imagine 300 voices singing something this beautiful and powerful.

  • @Teddius1138 i was in the one with 300 ppl too for indiana... two people fainted from performing it

  • @Choirkid55 i was in that choir!

  • It was an honor being a part of this amazing choir!!! I can honestly say that I started to tear up with emotion during the high energy and forte portion of this piece, it was very moving.

  • Man, I wish this song was on iTunes. When we sang this at the District Choir Festival, I burst out crying at the end.

  • yall r so huge but that made it more amazing it gave me chills

  • amazing you guys!!!!!!

  • My choir in highschool sang this song, it's so beautiful, and it's been a while since I've heard it. This is a very nice throwback :]

  • this is such a beautiful song...

my school's choir did a workshop with another school choir from out West and they sang this song.

  • This is the most beautiful choir piece I have ever heard

Can anyone provide me with the text/somewhere to download this?

Please, I need this on my iPod

I heard a fellow schools choir sing it today at districts and I fell in love

    Help anyone?

  • I love this piece. I'm so fortunate to study with Dr. Ames....an amazing God fearing man!

  • I heard this song at California All-State Choir in 2005..I was in women's choir and instantly fell in love with this song when mixed choir took the stage. Absolutely beautiful, I have the sheet music and play the piano instrumental from time to time :)

  • beautifully done! i just performed this in the Indiana All-State Honors Choir for the IMEA state convention.

  • truly stunning interpretation, bravo!

  • My college choir is singing this for our winter concert, and the first time my professor played this piece for us I had tears in my eyes. Rarely does an arrangement of music affect me so strongly. This is a powerful testament to the complexities of grief and loss, and I can only hope that my choir can give such a fitting performance as this one.

  • I performed this piece in Carnegie Hall with my choir the day after my grandfather's funeral. I played the solo on clarinet. Probably the most powerful performance of my life so far.

  • i completely agree, i can't sing this song without getting choked up. I had the privilege of performing this song in the All City Music Festival in Omaha Nebraska, and Dr. Ames conducted the mass choir of all 7 highschool concert choirs. its was magnificent. the story behind this song is very touching as well. good job.

  • This piece is so beautiful. I about cry every time I hear it, even more so when I have the supreme privilege to perform it. One can truly feel the emotion behind this glorious piece of choral genius. Dr. Ames became one of my favorite composers with this piece two years ago, and forever will be. What a beautiful piece.

  • I sang this song in my highschool's honor choir festival too, and immediately fell in love with it. It is a beautiful piece. And every time I hear this song tears begin to well up. Although the story behind this song is sad, it still brings forth hope. This song captures every emotion someone would feel due to the loss of a loved one. Wow... Jeffery L. Ames is an awesome composer! Thank God for his remarkable gift.

  • I love this piece. It was written about my husband Bill, and two daughters Becca and Anna. Becca was a student of Jeffery Ames. He used his grief in such a beautiful way and for that I am eternally grateful. Thanks for the beautiful voices in this choirs and the many others who have sung this piece. Joy does come in the morning.

  • My heart goes out to you! Beautiful tribute!

  • This was my favorite choral peice to sing ever. Everytime we (The Charlotte Youth Chorale) sang it, we were moved.

  • im singing this for choir :)

  • this performance is incredible. the choir has such control and a clear sound. our choir does this but we are definetly not to this point. i would love to see more of this choir.

  • ive never cried over an all southwest tennesseee\ piece and last year we sung this sung and i absolutely cried...mr.jeffrery redding wasnt the condutor but he was our conductor a few weeks ago n he moved us all to tears

  • I went to high school with one of the survivors of the family this song was written for; we sang it the year he graduated. It is truly sad.

  • We are singing this for our All State Honor Choir and it is beautiful. This gave me chills. Excellent job.

  • jeffrey redding just conducted our all southwest tennessee's choir yesterday. he is AMAZING.

  • I've never been moved to tears before. But the first time I heard this song, I was sobbing buckets. <3 Beautiful, plain and simple.

  • how funny! i sang this at UM choral camp with Jeffrey Redding as well. i was watching the video and i was like that looks like him, then i read the side bar. he is the best! :) and i absolutely love this song, thought of it and searched for it here, since my grandmother passed recently.

  • amazing. we sang this song last year and it was so beautiful. the story about Becca Potts behind this song is just so upsetting and i cried.

  • I love this song so much. My choir just sang this in October concert and every time I hear it I love it more. Ames is definitely one of my favorite writers.

  • Actually, the song was written for a student in Ames choir, Becca Potts, who died in a car crash with the rest of her family except her mother on the 4th of July.

Our choir sang the song last year because the choir director who took over for Ames also knew Becca. Half our choir started crying singing it onstage.

  • i sang this at a funeral with my choir....very moving song.

  • ack! "for my heart" is PIANO!!!

  • Same here ! I love this song the most ! it is the Ezest to me ! ! !

Delta State is going to be a good chance for me.....

  • this is one of the audition pieces for delta state! my favorite.

    this choir did wonderful! =D

  • lol it says the story on the back of my music hahaha

  • yes, rainingchampion, he talked to our class, and your story is correct.

  • if i remember correctly, they are referring to the 2004 tsunami

  • LOL. No, the song is talking about a friend of his (Ames) I had the opprotunity of meeting one of his students. She told me that he wrote it about a friend of his. He and some other people died in a car accident. He was really sad about it. But it inspired him to write this peice.

  • This guy's correct. Whoever said Tsunami is <_<

  • The story is on the back fo the music and my choir director told us the reason behind the song. A girl in his choir died in a car crash along with her father and younger sister. He wrote the song in memory of the family.

  • our school sang this song at a contest at wof n we let loose on it we made our selves cry one of the parents and even on of the judges it was an amazing song i love it

  • simply wonderful!

  • Our Choir sang this for contest and Memorial Day. I fell in love with the the first time I heard it.

  • I sang this at the Minnesota Two year college music festival. It was absolutely amazing. This song is absolutely amazing.

  • The climax at 1:45 is too awesome for the microphone...

  • If anyone from this choir is reading or watching this, remember how moving the feeling was when we turned off the lights in the conference room and just sang with our hearts...

it seriously gives me goosebumps and remains one of the best choral experiences I've ever had.

  • um wow. so i'm sitting here procrastinating on a paper in the last few weeks of my senior year of college and i just decided to search for this.

i am SO glad someone else remembers how moving that experience was!

  • I wasn't with this group or anything but the feeling you get for singing this I definitely share with ya'll. I actually had the honor and privilege to meet Dr. Jeffery Ames, the man who wrote this song and it's an experience I'll never forget. He told us the story behind the song and we sang it after he told us and it was incredible.

  • I don't know what experience exactly you're referring to, but back in Mississippi Chorale Fest of 07 (I think) we got to sing this as a mass choir with Dr. Ames directing. This was the most moving piece for sure. It was absolutely wonderful.

  • I wasn't there, and have little idea what you're truly talking about but just reading that gave me shivers.

  • i second that

  • Yes!!! I was in this choir and that rehearsal was one of the reasons I decided to become a choral director. Im now finishing up my bachelors degree at the University of Miami in Music Education and I hope to one day make music like Dr. Redding did with us that year.

  • I just ordered the CD last night.

  • i know i keep replying but ive been pretty much watching this video over and over all day/it is very lovely you guys

  • beautiful guys.tear to my eyes

Thank you soooo much whoever posted this! I lost my dvd and i've wanted to listen to these songs for so long!

  • I sang this in the Iowa State University Honor Choir in 2008, under the direction of Dr. James Rodde. Amazing song! It's very moving.

  • There is a girl who was in our concert choir and chamber choir whose father died and we are dedicating this song to her. she graduated but when we sing this song she feels closer than ever.

  • This was the Premier performance of "In Remembrance" performed at the 2005 American Choral Directors convention in LA. My son and two friends sang in this choir and said the week was the most amazing choral experience in high school. Over 360 voices from around the country, including Germany & Japan. I don't believe there was a dry eye in the audience when the choir finished singing. Beautiful Music. Outstanding Director. Stellar performance.

  • does anyone know the text its really beautiful

  • I went to Tonka....we sang this song as our final piece in out First Concert of the Year....the whole place was in tears....took like 2 minutes for everyone to figure what just happend....it didnt help that our Choir Teachers (gifford)mom literally died a week prior to this concert....he was balling his eyes out as he was a conducting...and could just see the rage in his eyes......AMAZING SONG!!!!

  • In Remembrance! I sang this song with my choral group(Madrigals) in 2006! And like every other choir, we too cried our eyes out after rehearsing it before having to sing it in a huge competition! Oh it was BEAUTIFUL!

  • I'm in the alto section if that gives you a hint..=P Now..who are you?

  • haha that helps! Bahareh. soprano 1 curly hair lol.

  • i love this song. A visiting choir sang it once, and i utterly "fell in love". I always wanted to sing it, but well, it's SATB =P

this choir is amazing, the control and expression is amazing for a choir of such yong people. does anybody know the conductor?

  • His name is Jeffery Redding. He was simply amazing to work with.

  • Amazing. Excellent Crescendos. We're singing this in my High School Choir. This was good. beautiful song

  • I sang this song with my high school choir last year as a Senior and this was the defining piece for not only all of the seniors, but for everyone who sang it. This song has such a powerful meaning and feeling behind it and it was easily the best piece of music I have ever sung...I get chills and tears when i hear this song and the choir who performed in this video did an excellent job with this piece!!! Well Done!!!

  • Excellent work. My High Scchool Choir is performing this piece at this year's NYSMA conference this december, in front of over 1000 music teachers. No pressure...we've been instructed to make sure that there is not a dry eye in the house.

    Again, very good work.

  • same here... what section are you?

  • Tenor 1

  • we sang this at our spring concert in college ^_^ i got to hit the high "g" at the top of that one chord. zomg. i cry every time i listen to this piece.

  • Wow. I can't believe someone posted this. Being in the 2005 ACDA NHC was one of the best experiences with choirs I've ever had. Redding is simply amazing. This is why I have continued my music studies. I love this song... I think about the rehearsal when he turned off the lights.. I think that rehearsal, with all of us together was the best we'd ever done it. Even better than what is posted here.

  • Comment removed

  • I cannot believe this is on youtube!! This was my senior year...I was on the top row of the second alto section. This brings back so many great memories! Do you have any other pieces from that concert on here??

  • my school choir sang this 2 years ago. i absolutely love this song, and you guys deffinately brought me to tears. you guys are amazing and i love your sound.

  • wow you guys are amazing! My choir is auditioning for the 2009 ACDA Convention, but a) it'd be a pain to travel there, and b) if we're going up choirs like yours, damn...

  • This is the national honor choir not a high school choir.

  • oh, sry. I thought it was. mea culpa.

  • the select choir at my school in austin texas learned this earlier in the year and it was absolutely incredible. i cry every time i hear it

  • This is a wonderful video of a wonderful song. I love the piano and baritone parts in particular. However, I think what I love the most about this version is the expression on the guy with the glasses' face at 2:53.

  • Uuniversity of Tampa Chorale is learning it now and one of the girls in the choir knew the people who the song was written and dedicated to prior to their deaths. It's so emotional in the classroom just listening to this piece and it's pieces like this that make me believe that I madce the wisest decision to choose choral music education for a major. I cannot wait to get my degree to make moments like this happen!! Bravo, ACDA Choir. This was just what I needed. =)

  • Hey! One of my great friends goes to UT and she sang this song with in my choir in high school! I'm also studying to be a choral music educator at Baldwin-Wallace Ohio and I totally agree with you about this song! It's nice to know that you are going to be a music educator and help people make moments like these!

  • That's so cool! :D What's their name? The education part of my degree is really the one thing ticking me off now (due to stupid scheduling complications). But I hope that in the end when I recieve my degree everything will have been worth it. :]

  • My high school choir in Gaffney, SC recently sang this song in our State contest. Jeffery Ames knows what he's doing.

  • This is by far my favorite of all the choral songs I have performed. And this is by far one of the best recordings I have heard of it. Amazing.

  • I love this song a lot performed it wih the Kokopelli and mascato in Africa.

  • I had the pleasure of having Dr. Ames at AMEA Honor Choir in January. He's truly amazing... The Choir does him justice in this video just as ours did. Fabulous.
