Dude you can trade between FR/LG/R/S/E via a special version of VBA called "Link".

Google it and it should appear ready to be downloaded and instructions.

Pokemon Editor Pro for editing the Pokemon (This isn't what I used at the time, but it looks good now that it's out)

unLZ.gba for editing sprites, including the animations in emerald and the back sprites

(you can use AdvanceMap to set wild grass to the new Pokemon you made so that you can find it)

And I THINK that answers all your questions...
