  • im scared about the jazz part because ive never pplayed jazz music in my life. i stick with classical music and "soft rock" type of music from artist like bruno mars, cold play, etc. i need to learn jazz asap .

  • Ok im 14 and i want to get into either berklee or juilliard. I cannot read music i hardly know chords or scales. But after this im really doubting it now. Playing by ear is my strength and i just don't know now. Could you give me some tips?

  • @mymusicforHim Find a private instructor and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!

  • @mymusicforHim LEARN CHORDS AND SCALES! Your young, buy a RealBook, learn every tune in it. Transcribe, play like mad, not knowing how to communicate musical thoughts makes you uses less musician.

  • Where are you going now?

  • @blueroan4 I am currently at East Carolina University for music composition.

  • hey man i had my audition in baltimore last nov 30th! did you attend? how did you go about paying for your tuition?

  • @ThrashIsBack123 Yeah, I was there as well. The first person that morning. Sadly, I didn't end up going to Berklee because I didn't end up getting much of a scholarship, but I am happy where I am at and I'm now shooting for music production and audio engineering. =D

  • Can you talk a little bit more about the sight reading, I mean, how hard it is, if you could indicate some examples that are almost as difficult as some of the ones you've seen

  • @viniciuslennon From what I remember, it was a simple right hand melody of quarter and eighth note with a simple left hand. It progressively increased in difficulty, but it didn't get to hard. Please keep in mind that I auditioned almost a year ago so my mind is a bit fuzzy on it. I would suggest looking at the Berklee website in the audition section. They should have sight reading as well as comping on there. I hope this helps! =)

  • that little intro of yours already took my hopes away...

  • thank you such much you gave me much more confidence in what to expect. Even though i didn't have a instructor or teacher i think it will be fine

  • I think Berklee is really more jazz style then classical or other genres...right?

  • @jenianna99 it used to be nothing but jazz then they added some rock guitar players and songwriters ,in the 50s 60s and 70s they didnt bother with auditions just whats on your applicartion grades SAT scores and teachers [ music teachers recommendations]

  • @spacepatrolman they almost didnt accept mike gibbs who became a big composer because they asked the wrong teacher for a reccomendation who was a shithead that only knew classical music

  • I'm auditioning and February..thanks so much for the help! I definitely know what to work on now..

  • @HomicidalOctopus me too! Good luck to both of us!!

  • Im stressing out about these auditions. Im only in my second year of high school and have played piano for three years but this is the only college I want to attend and my ear and theory isn't too sharp so im trying to find ways to better those aspects of my playing. Any suggestions?

  • @andrewmusic95 I wouldn't stress too much because you still have lots of time. I would suggest just to sit down at the piano every day (it doesn't really matter for how long) as long as its productive. I finally understand that now that im in college. As far as music theory goes start by either purchasing a music theory book or taking a theory class, if your high school offers it. Lastly, Berklee is an amazing school, but make sure you have alternates. I would also suggest Belmont.

  • @andrewmusic95 But make sure you also look at the schools around you because I live in North Carolina and I ended up at ECU because their music department is amazing not to mention their piano department. It's all about what you want out of your playing and what you love.

  • @mylestravitz Yeah, I live in Geaorgia so it's a long ways away. But I really think it could be worth it. I want to major in music composition and theory and also go through their coarses on music engineering/production amd music managment to start a labaling company but still get the skills from piano to write my own music

  • @andrewmusic95 whats a labaling company? do you mean a record label

  • it says on the website that you play a twelve bar blues progression. did they ask you for jazz instead?

  • He's right on the money. Same thing happened to me.

  • DID YOU GET IN??

  • I'm glad the video was helpful. Yes. I was accepted. :-)

  • thanks this is was really helpful I hope you got in

-a hs sophomore who wants to get into berklee one day

  • i auditioned for piano too on the 10th, and everything this guy said is exactly what i had to do.

panel is very nice. interviewer was very nice too.

  • I'll hear from Berklee admissions at the end of January. I'll keep you posted. I wish you the best of luck on your application. If you have yet to audition, don't be timid. You've got to believe it to achieve it!

  • @mylestravitz thanks! i'm applying the next year! wish me luck! (: thank you for this video!

  • did you get in?

I really want to go to Berklee... I'm a bit nervous though, I'm a classical pianist...
