@Alessandoctor Not positive, but it looks/sounds like he is just pushing the pick into the pickups of the guitar while heavily shaking the whammy bar (which makes it easier to bounce the strings off of the pickups). What gives it the cool sound though is there is most likely a heavy delay effect going. If he did that with a dry signal it wouldn't sound good at all. I only watched this once so I might be totally wrong, but that is my theory.

I see that people really did not like my comment. I thought I was just theorizing but apparently heart somebodies feelings. I do not mean to crap John, it is just that my mother is a professional vocal instructor and sings opera:-) I can sing pretty good myself and have a 100% ear. To a regular person this performance would seem like great, but when you have a vocal training, it is easy to hear how John struggles through some parts of the song and in some places simply does not carry a tune.

Richie has a good voice and saves John in many places. His guitar playing skills are perfect! I Think John is really lucky to have Sambora as a guitar player and the second vocal.

You absolutly right...for people with less ear for music try check at 3:07 til 3:18 - hes out of key the all bridge til chorus...but this happened probably cause he wasnt wearing monitors ( those things they put on their ears)...jon usually do this all song in tune...at 3:52 i jsut like how david sing his heart out but for some reason we cant f+n hear him...;)

O yeah, that is what I heard. But I still like him I just can not put John on the same level as lets say Freddy Mercury, that is why a commented on his performance. But that does not matter for the real fans, to them I am an enemy talking shit about their god, but that is what American Idol and Pop degradation does to the public.

Well freddie was freddie...there wont be no one like him anytime soon...his amazing ability to write one of the most complex and beautiful melodies i ever heard has alwways amaze me...he was like a maestro of opera, pop idol and glam rock star at the same time...and as you said, he could pull out the songs from the begin til the very end wihout missing a note...but then he was freddie...jon is in a diferent category of freddie's music...its diferents styles but jon still an hell of a singer

...if you see him singing with pavaroti you will notice that this guy can def sing...from opera to pop, from jazz to country or rock...hes not jsut a pretty face who successed well in life due his looks...hes a singer, and real singers are the ones who can sing everything, he def got some talent, otherwise madonna, who made fortune without coudnt singing a note to save her life...that was the bigest sham in music history.

I saw most of his videos. I like some of his older stuff. But you got to be a singer to hear it. My mother in fact teaches vocal at musical school. Just listen closely, he simply screamed through the whole song. If not for the general accompaniment of the guitar, he would not have been able to put any show .
