Hang on a sec, how would a Japanese kid realise the significance of the word death? It's like if us english blokes were watching it and they spelled something in Japanese (which 4kids would never do, by the way), it could be anything and we would thnk it was evil, just because they say it is. Honestly, if that board spelled out kittens and ponies, Japanese kids wouldn't know the difference between that and death because they don't speak english.

There's more of a chance that Japanese people would know a couple English words than Americans knowing Japanese hiragana. You can tell by the fact that a lot of Asian pop singers use brief English words in the middle of their songs.

It might also depend on how old the kid is. If they've watched Death Note, then obviously they have a higher if not absolute chance of knowing what Death means. etc. ~
