I imagined Robert Plant coming off as arrogant, I mean holding the fame as the singer of one of the greatest bands in history that is still listened to by millions, but in this he comes off as simply the opposite. Intelligent, humble, and genuinely interested in what you have to say..
This is a great example of why you shouldn't judge or have assumptions of people.
how is it that so many people struggle to be awesome, to be loved by everyone, but as they do, they are not honest enough to admit that they felt better alone all that time
i love how alot of robert's roots and influences are from wales, since they wrote pretty much whole of their second album in wales, in bron yr aur village, which is only a few miles away from where i live in wales :D Robert your just too amazing!
@Emilyplays1 that is what an interviewer is suppose to do, present the opposing viewpoint and let the person explain why they think and do things their own way
Im a huge Zep fan. Soo just a few minutes into the interview I'm thinking to myself while i listen in on the magical Robert Plant....... FUCK U JUSTIN BEIBER !!!!
@TheDatsyukian what the fuck? why even mention that name...seriously, you people need to quit dick riding him and stay off his nuts, if you don't like him, why pay any attention to him? you're just fueling the fire, idiot.
My first real concert was Zep touring their third LP in Nashville. The police and the House were so afraid of the Hippy Menace that every time the crowd stood up, the house lights turned on and the Cops would move in to maintain discipline.
Robert was so disgusted that at the end of the show that he flipped off the authorities and said, "Goodbye Nashville, you suck city! We'll never be back!".
How things have changed!
For some at least. Now they're afraid of the Muslim Menace.
why is it that robert is nicer during an interview than back stage after a show...? it was a tremendous plant and page reunion tour performance at 2nd row center...hearing, seeing, and feeling their led zeppelin songs was smashing, i just wish they would have said hello instead standing 4 feet away with their backs to me...i am sure they must have been exhausted but all the members of ACDC were much more humble and pleasant to speak with....
@mike I met Plant, after a Red Rocks show in CO, 1988. I was working, singing to a female employee of mine "Im in the Mood for a Melody" ..on &on... entertaining only myself & then Plant & his mates show up covered in leather/turqoise. We chatted a bit. He was cool/funny/mischievous. He tried to get a deal from my establishment, but I told him it was $22.50 for his show & he was definitely going to pay full price. His whole entourage cracked up. Spent time w/ Wavy Gravy too. He was not aloof.
Jees, he's got to get so tired of talking about Led Zeppelin. I can't imagine having people want to talk about stuff I did 30 years ago over and over and over.....this guy has no imagination as an interviewer, he just keeps talking about 40 years ago over and over and over.....
Why is everyone all a sudden talking shit on plant jus bcuz he said that about sabbath? Maybe he jus doesn't really care for them but I'm sure he wasn't denying their legacy or saying their music is bad. And why would he be threaten by black sabbath? He Robert plant of led Zeppelin!!! Yu are all ignorant assholes to call him a prick.
this is the first time ever that i would like to punch one of my greatest idols right in the face, "Black Sabbath > plant " who"? This jealous prick wont get over them every member of the band in zeppelin and Sabbath are cool with each other but not plant? WTF!
Ditto. I don't understand why he took that stance on Black Sabbath - he kind of acts like it's a joke but I get the sense that maybe he's threatened by them. Maybe he's a little too egotistical to acknowledge that they're really that good - one of the few bands that is as legendary as Zeppelin. It was shitty to deny them their due credit.
15 seconds in Robert POINTS TO HIS THROAT (after he gags himself on stairway)...very telling when he points to his throat. I take that as the vocal cords cant take singing LZ anymore.
Very cool interview ... well done. Too bad he didn't share any new anecdotes about Led Zeppelin's past. I know he doesn't care to talk about it because he went through some rough times back then. You can't deny a legendary band though.
@andyc3020 I know right!! I dot think he likes led zep either. But ya can't blame him he isn't just known and dosent want to be just known for the singer of led zep. So I don't blame him.
yep 42 years later and still god but what dont understand is bon scott has got a statue happy about that freddie mercury has got a statue too and michael jackson has got a statue too but where is a robert plant statue? love him or hate him he should have a statue he is a legend one of the greatest ever he needs a statue he deserve one
Robert is such a class act...there are so many things he could say (negatively), but simply makes a joke. I really enjoy his interviews. This guy is a great interviewer.
Oh, how I love you Robert. I've loved you for so long. You just keep getting better with age. Not only are you a talented artist but such an intelligent and interesting individual.
Interesting that Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and countless other British musicians have talking about how they were affected by early blues music they heard in England back in the 1950's and how it influenced them and, yet, that same music went virtually ignored in this country.

Sad really because Sabbath grew up on the back of bands like Zeppelin in a time when punk was predominent in England. Surely these two bands were brothers in arms even though they were seperated by a generation in music.
@daddyrizla A Generation of Seperation?! Punk? You have your history wrong! Sabbath formed in 1968 and there first album was in 1970!!!!! They were around at the same time!!!!
I would like to hear Robert sing "Highway to Hell" . With Angus and Malcolm Acoustic...lol me just jokin... Gretsch and Gibsons Galore! Mabye something with Robert Fripp too.
Excellent interview. Worth the half hour. The whole journey from Led Zeppelin until right now has been a fantastic ride. Enjoyed seeing Zeppelin at Day on the Green Oakland Collesium in '77. Saw several Robert Plant shows around the Bay Area (Cow Palace, Shoreline). Thanks Robert!
I don't have problems with stupid people wasting their time, just to slander someone, I am used to it. I just wonder what kind of Robert Plant fan you are? I disagree with your "the has been...", but after all everyone has the right of an opinion.
If you hate Robert Plant so much why bother watching for 35 minutes and then write a lot of crap about probably one of the best modern day musicians? Get a life man.
@Patzo6 First off Comments are for anybody to say anything. Not just for praise. Get used to it.
Secondly, from one Plant fan to another .. I dont think he qualifies under "greatest modern day musicians" category. Maybe under the "has been aging rocker but bless his heart for trying" category.
I disagree with "has been...". Robert Plant is quite the epitome of what a musician should be (IMO). He's doing it for the love of the music. It's inspiring to see how Plant strives to keep on moving; refusing musical stagnation as much as he can. He had every opportunity to quit indefinitely after Zeppelin, but didn't. Fortunately, that led to some cool collaborations, which led to some really great tunes : ).
And funny how he talks crap about the "greedy jetsetters" when he has been one in throughout 3 decades. Lawsuits made against Led are thrown out by any artist who actually wrote what these fucks stole, perhaps by incompetent groupies for lawyers personally lusting for Plant like he was the next best thing since sliced bread. Who fucking listens to his solo career and that Allison who'd-be-a-nobody-without-coattail-riding-on-the-Plant heifer. Plant can suck a cactus plant!
See? He even admits to ripping from other songs!!! All you Zeptards can come up with any excuses all you want, I couldn't give a shit. Now, if Thievy Page can ever finally admit to stealing from other artists as well, which will never happen as he hides from lawsuits with his own lawsuits against other artists for ripping him off like the hypocrite Limey fuck he really is.
@SuperBlackAndRed hey you fucking yank cunt ! its says on your website you are 30. You mistook your IQ for your age. Why dont you go and fuck yourself? Talking shit on the internet is all that jerkoffs like you are good for. Fucking troll.
I love how all you Zep fans so easily dismiss Plants insults towards Sabbath... it was not British humor/an attempt to be funny/sarcasm. Bonham was a great friend of the Sab's and Page is great friends with Tony Iommi.
@crunkalac I know this mate. And for the record, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones are cool dudes, but Robert is just a straight up fucking prick. Comparing Sabbath to Bobby Goldsboro? Wow.
Seriously. This poor guy is just being genuine and trying to conduct an in depth interview, but you can see how tough it is for him to tiptoe around Plant's ego. So many awkward spots where you can tell that he trod on a mine and Plant's guard went up - the need for Plant to talk down about Black Sabbath thing is proof of that.
he is keeping up on his goatie hair color. I wonder if he let his hair go naturale if he would look like a wizard just like Jimmy looks today! BTW QTV you spelt Zeppelin wrong!!! shame on you!
brilliant interview, and great to see how many people he can still wind up with a single sentence. get a grip people, he is good friends with all the Sabbath guys, but he is never afraid to use irony and sarcasm and good old british humour.....something americans never seem to get...
Can I generalise and assume those of you who are talking about Sabbath have no understanding of what sarcasm is? Because it looks like that from here up on the Pantheon.
Wow Plant, what a bitter old fuck. He slags on Sabbath and then has the audacity to say Bonzo hated them! Bonzo jammed with them back in the 70's to songs such as Supernaut and was Tony Iommi's best man at one of his weddings! Plant is just jealous because all he can show for now is shitty bluegrass music with Alison Krauss while Tony and Geezer are still pounding out riffs. I guess Planty got tired of slamming David Coverdale.
Bravo!!! Plant is the most honest person in music in the last 50 years, no frills, no BS, take it or leave it. That was an interview that made me feel as though he really is just a normal guy, trying to find his way in life, like the rest of us.
Wow. Very nice. Did you hear what Jian said about interviewing Robert Plant if he wrote a book in Marrakech, publisher or not? It's now clear why he's the best interviewer ever. He is sincerely interested in his guests, regardless of the commercial side of things, and he clearly works very hard to prepare for each interview.
Cool, I've always wondered what the other side of the room looks like and we finally got a glimpse of a wall! What did Robert say about the Bee Gees, exactly? They're great and they'd make an equally great interview, Jian.

@Patzo6 First off Comments are for anybody to say anything. Not just for praise. Get used to it.
Secondly, from one Plant fan to another .. I dont think he qualifies under "greatest modern day musicians" category. Maybe under the "has been aging rocker but bless his heart for trying" category.
ariexmae 1 year ago
@ariexmae

SuperBlackAndRed 1 year ago

This interview makes me very very happy! And also proud that he feels so good about doing this kind of indepth interview in Canada.

Funny, how Plant begins a lot of his answers with "I don't know" yet he still talks a long while.

Wow.

@DoomMetalSludge
Seriously. This poor guy is just being genuine and trying to conduct an in depth interview, but you can see how tough it is for him to tiptoe around Plant's ego. So many awkward spots where you can tell that he trod on a mine and Plant's guard went up - the need for Plant to talk down about Black Sabbath thing is proof of that.

brilliant interview, and great to see how many people he can still wind up with a single sentence. get a grip people, he is good friends with all the Sabbath guys, but he is never afraid to use irony and sarcasm and good old british humour.....something americans never seem to get...

this is not the first time he slammed Sabbath. He has a stick up his ass over them for some reason

Can I generalise and assume those of you who are talking about Sabbath have no understanding of what sarcasm is? Because it looks like that from here up on the Pantheon.
MWEICHENG 1 year ago
Wow Plant, what a bitter old fuck. He slags on Sabbath and then has the audacity to say Bonzo hated them! Bonzo jammed with them back in the 70's to songs such as Supernaut and was Tony Iommi's best man at one of his weddings! Plant is just jealous because all he can show for now is shitty bluegrass music with Alison Krauss while Tony and Geezer are still pounding out riffs. I guess Planty got tired of slamming David Coverdale.
DoomMetalSludge 1 year ago
John Bohnam was a good friend of Bill Ward and liked Sabbath.
Plant is just pissed Sabbath could come up with original stuff and didn't need to thieve from old blues records.

I don't know about anyone else but I laughed when Robert exclaimed, "Wham!" as he looked at all the band pictures on the wall. Such a juxtaposition!

Bravo!!! Plant is the most honest person in music in the last 50 years, no frills, no BS, take it or leave it. That was an interview that made me feel as though he really is just a normal guy, trying to find his way in life, like the rest of us.
And this interview proved how cool he still is.

Wow.
