  • It is NOT an HEP engine...if you'd read my last post you'd see it is a solid state inverter housed inside the carbody that provides hotel power for the coaches. I work on these locomotives every single day...I know what I'm talking about.

  • @FL9AC yes i know its basically the engine with a box that conects to the cars

  • It sounds just like the DM30's (In electric mode)

  • No, louder than a DM30AC!

  • Wow! Really?

  • why is it a new haven engine again

  • I didnt know this stuff goes to grand central

  • Now you do!

  • Technically the locomotive isn't idling. It's in electric mode at that point, so what you're hearing is the blowers and all the electric gear humming away.

  • Thanks, and its funny because the DM30AC's are so whisper quiet! Thanks for the info on that!

  • isnt that sound the hep engines

  • No, the P32AC-DM's do not have an HEP engine...the HEP is simply an inverter housed in the back of the locomotive...again what is heard in the video are some of the necessary equipment blowers running.

  • ohh

  • nope p32ac-dms does have hep engines --and if they dont where does the shoreliners draw there power from...

  • @FL9AC on this loco hep does engage until it turns on in diesel mode, also it does work till the loco is in idle and when in idle and hep is running the loco stays in notch 3 RPM
