This is an amazing piece! I can't believe this wasn't part of the final soundtrack! The entire Mass Effect soundtrack (1, 2, and I know 3 will be phenominal as well) is absolutely amazing :D Music is what I pay attention to a lot in games, movies and tv shows, and this is what makes me love the Mass Effect series so much (as well as the story). Great job and keep making more great music!
This track is just so, so mystical, mysterious and vast in how it portrays a lucid image of space; I think this should've played in the Citadel Control Tower, adding to the idea of viewing out over the docking bays, directly into space...it would've made me stop and listen and look for sure!
there is a track in ME2 that plays when you walk into a store on the citadel i have not been able to find it anywhere. perhaps could shed some light on where it comes from? it sounds like lounge music. it also plays in lair of the shadowbroker DLC.
It's a privilage to have randomly stumbled across your YouTube profile; I really enjoyed your work on Mass Effect. Wouldn't have been the same game without it.
Dude i loved the music in mass effect it reminds me of blade runner. I especially love the mysterious space mystical type vibe you've managed to create in this track as well as the galaxy map and the original one you were going to use. I think ME3 should have more of that synthesizer stuff and less orchestral stuff.
And the little description you gave for this peace was perfect i too imagined looking out into space from a ship window.
Ah, to be the owner of a trillion dollar starship. This would be the song I would have playing while I watched the Earth slowly spinning from ~10,000 miles away, before embarking on a little interstellar mischief. Very nice. :)
I cant believe this did not make it into the game somwhere, this music truly captures the atmosphere and helps make ME the game it is, i hope to hear more of your work in the future is there anway to purchase this stuff on C-D ?
This piece would have fit in perfectly after the little romance event before Ilos. It would have been nice to have a few moments to reflect on what it was at stake and what it meant to be human before heading up to the bridge and facing your fate. This piece captures that wonder.
man. i have to say that the mass effect soundtrack is the best soundtrack Ive ever heard. Ive listened to it so many times. honestly its the most beautiful thing Ive ever heard.
are you responsible for mass efffect's soundtrack? if yes then , be asured that mass effect would not be mass effect if it was nt for its superb music. truly amazing. now about this track. it sits mass effect 100% and it is indeed a little dark! i think it should be incorporated in the soundtrack too.
OK, so this track was actually my first draft of the Normandy tune. Yeah, what was I thinking? ;) I just got this vision in my head of being on board this awesome ship, gazing out through the windows into space..which of course has GOT to be a really beautiful, inspiring sight. But.. really when you're on the Normandy, you're in between missions and things are tense, so clearly this track did not work, and was rejected.
This is a fantastic piece, imo. Though I agree with you there was nowhere in the game it would have fit in, still, it seems like you could have used it in something, like that recent IPhone game, Mass Effect: Galaxy.
Do you have very many tracks like this that were never used? I'd be VERY interested in hearing them as I'm a big fan of the soundtrack for Mass Effect (I was the one who made the "missing tracks" videos, I love this stuff).
Anyway, I hope you get to work on music for the sequel!
Hey man, thanks!! No, most stuff I wrote did wind up in the game. The only exceptions I can think of right now are this track, and a track I wrote for Saren...which was rather embarrassing so I won't be revealing that one. ;) Jack's Saren tune is way way better than mine was.. big time. My Ilos combat track didn't really make it in the game either but you've heard that (it's in your missing track collection..the tune w/ the conga drums).
Sam, I think your music for this game is absolutely stunning. It really sets the stage and gets you in the mood for the epic adventure that is Mass Effect.
Do you think you could somehow get this into the second game? I know the Bioware team is saying that the second game will be more darker, and this sounds to me much darker than a lot of the music in the first game. Brilliant.
Thanks! Obviously the official composer(s) have not been announced for ME2/ME3 at this point so that's all speculation.
At any rate, it's interesting that you find this track to be a bit darker in nature. I actually think it's too pretty to really fit into something like ME2. Heck, it wasn't even a good fit for ME1 which is why it wound up here on YouTube. :D Plus, I think me posting it here precludes it from being used on any future ME installments, which is no biggie..I can always write more!
By any chance would you be able to export a MIDI of this, or is that against regulations?

It truly is a shame that this music is missing from both Mass Effect 1 & 2. Hopefully it can find a place in Mass Effect 3.
