I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR BEING INSIDE THE TAXI WITH THOSE 3 EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN INSTEAD OF THAT GUY (IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIM, I WOULD BE ENJOYING THAT SEEN AND NOT CONCENTRATING IN ACTING SO THEY WOULD NEED TO RE CAPTURE THE SCENE 100000000000 MILLION TIMES!!!!!!!)
Can't say that I'm all that nostalgic about NYC but its fun to play internet tourist and check out the key locations. I've never been to NYC and Ella makes an excellent tour guide. I've been wondering about Mad Men. Don't know what I've been missing.
Fun video. I would also suggest swinging by The Dublin House on 79th Street/B'way, where Greg breathed though a glass the day he did not make surgeon. Dublin House and St. Luke's Hospital (in all its late 1950s architectural wonder and where Greg volunteered to help the negro children during the missile crisis) are still there. Of course, for the more mainstream there is the new home of SCDP in the Time Life Building. A lot of Mad Men NY is still here, you just have to look.
@TheHill88 The carousel scene is truly brilliant. And Sardi's is where the Bobbie Barrett...ahem..."encounter" happened. Who could forget that magical moment?
And how could I forget Patsy's Pizzeria! The real one up on 117th and 1st, not any of the imitators that have sprung up all over town. The Lancieris made the best piece of pizza in New York, and that continues 77 years later. The Yankees used to stop in all the time, Sinatra was a fan, and Coppola planned out "The Godfather" in the dining room. It doesn't get any more Old New York than that.
Miss Morton, that was an excellent breakdown of a few days' classy journey through Manhattan. (Even JJ's, which has been covering my family for generations.) I'd suggest a drink at PJ Clarke's, an afternoon at the Forbes Gallery, a film at the Tower East or The Paris, and, if you know a member, dinner at the New York Athletic Club. Oh, and the Morgan Library, specifically the section which has remained unchanged since the old man died.
Ohhh, back from a 2 week visit 2 New York for the first time and I loooooooved it. And I see a lot of spots we visited. One night we tried to get in to Sardi's, but is was sooo incredibly busy and we were very so we didn't wait. So we went to John's pizzeria (same street) instead. Great food, good price.
@Dancingstagequeen Correction: Woolworth's no longer exists as a store under the Woolworth's name. They are only known by the Foot Locker brand nowadays.
There is a Woolworth's building in NYC, but sadly no Woolworth's owned company still resides in that building.
@markiduval - A specialty shop like that is going to charge you a small fortune, all to look like your typical hipster douchebag. The hats are pretty cool, I agree; but to wear one today, decades after they've gone out of style is not a good move.
The classy look of flowing black dress, high heels and long natural hair. Beats the miniskirt, bleached look and boob tube any day. Sophistication is sexy.
Rocketboom, you should do a segment on The Dakota.
When it was being built in the 1880's, people thought it was going to be a failure because living in apartments had yet to become a necessity for New Yorkers. So not only was it the first to make apartment life something more mainstream, but it simulatneously made it fashionable for the rich.
Plus, there's its list of famous inhabitants, such as John Lennon and *ahem* Yoko Ono. Yeah, that has segment written all over it!
She is definitely a model and I love how smart she is even if she's just reading the script and looking good at the same time but it is nice to see parts of NYC I may not see for a while until I come back to NY
