  • Hey mate, lovely tone. I had the Fireball 60 like yours and it was a great amp. Sold it and bought the ENGL Blackmore which I love. I bought the Savage 120 and like that too. However, I'm thinking of selling the Savage as I just prefer my amps to be simple. Hence why I like the Blackmore and Fireball. Just tossing up now between the FB 60 or 100.

  • @5150VanAlien hey, i'm almost in the same situation as you :D i think of getting a fireball in addition to my blackmore. the blackmore is a fucking awesome amp and i think it will be my main amp for lifetime, but i'd like to have some variation and a second amp as a backup/for different locations. i'd sure go with the fireball 60, mainly cause it's not as loud as the blackmore. altough the separate gain knobs on the FB 100 are quite important for life playing.

  • @givemeajackson Hey Man, totally agree with you. I admire the Blackmore as it's versatile to go from sparkling cleans, bluesy crunch to all out METAL \m/. Twice I've owned the Savage and this time, looking to sell it again. I like the Fireball as I prefer my amps to be simple and not over dilute tone. The FB is great and I had it for 4 years without a problem. I usually play around the house so the 60 watt is good though separate gain is important. So might try the 100 watt this time too.

  • Great sound man, had a Powerball, sold it to buy a Mesa Rectifier, just came back to ENGL and bought a fireball, now i'm selling the Rectumfrier. Great sound and playing. Congrats.

  • @Mario666Heartless the best wordplay on rectifier ever :D

  • Oh my God, this Amp sound fcking awesome...why the Hell i don´t got one especially it is from my Country O_o

  • Wow that sounds awesome dude, and the gain is only half way? I want to get amp for metal but which would be better the Engl Fireball 60 watt, or a Peavey 6505+

  • @The0nlyCypher engl. engl by faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar

  • Monster.... its a monster...o_O

  • how much?

  • Awesome Death metal riffs :D

I also wanted to ask you if you have to turn the volume up alot to ge t a good tone?

I was thinking on getting this amp but I live in an apartment, so Im not sure if it will be too loud for the neighbours :S

  • @Vapausorava Not even a bit. The sound of this amp at low volume is just awesome.

  • wow you sound so calm and gentle but the way you play the guitar, it's like you have an evil alter ego

  • I have narrowed my choice for amps down to this and the engl powerball. Have you by any chance tried the powerball out and could compare both?

  • yeah but those 100W versions crank out probably the best metal sound I've ever heard without pedals! The 60W sounds pretty sick too, sure wish I had an ENGL dealer around here!

  • AWESOME!

  • awesome riffs bro. best fireball video for sure

  • Cant wait to get mine, may 12th :D :D you have the same Parker as me as well :) only difference is I run a 40th anniversary Orange 4x12 not a laney :P how bottom heavy are the fireballs? you can never tell from the videos. cam never picks them up. Iv played a Powerball before and it was huge, but iv just jumped in and ordered one of these.

  • Great sound, incridible technique...

    Congratulations!!!!

  • Wow, that riff in the beginning is awesome!! Do you have any tabs?

  • This video is awesome. Finally a demo with real metal riffs and a good tone.

  • I FUCKING WANT OOOOOOOOOOOONE!!!

  • I like the riffs man. It sounds good

  • Might save up for one of these... great playing, thanks for sharing

  • @everlight389 Thanks! And no problem, I hope the videos help people make an informed decision.

  • does the new fireball sound the same?

  • @macintirekyler As far as I know, they're identical except for a paint job - unless you're on about the 100watt version, then yeah they're different sounding.

  • @PaulGaijin they changed the circuit to add more low mid emphasis and a "darker sound". i like this one better personaly. nice playing man. i'm hoping to off my rectoverb for one at some point.

  • Brutal!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for not playing Shitty music for the Demo . To many people cant even play guitar when they order these. your awesome!

  • Hey Dude,

Have you used the FB in a live situation? Some users say that it can't cut through the mix. Personally, I believe it's because some guitarists scoop the mids to death and lose vital volume. However, interested to hear your views.

  • @5150VanAlien Hey man, yep loads of times! I haven't had a single problem cutting through live, every gig we've played has had the cab mic'd so that might've helped a bit... though I've never noticed a loss of clarity, or not being able to cut through. I think you're right, some people must be scooping their mids waaay too much! I hate scooped mids.

Speaker choice is also a factor, maybe go with something that has a nice mid hump to it, or an EQ pedal. I'm sure you already knew that though ;)

  • @PaulGaijin Thanks dude. I thought it was too weird to be true. I use to gig with a little 50 watt Vox modelling solid state amp and that kept up with everyone, so was surprised to hear these comments about the FB. I can appreciate it if there was no speaker mic and your other guitarist had a Mesa Triple Rec but even then, the rest of the band and engineer would be telling them to "turn that £ucking thing down so we can hear ourselves..." :-)

  • @PaulGaijin Hey Dude, I ended up buying a new Fireball again. I don't know what it is but is sounds better. I've dialled my settings almost similar to yours and really like the tone. Previously I was one of those victims of scooooped metal and now it really sounds much better. You're right bout the EQ and mid advice. I may buy an MXR 6 band (M-109) eq pedal. For £60 or so, it does seem like a good investment. May also buy the Maxon vintage series delay AD999 or the TRex Reptile.

  • @5150VanAlien Happy New Amp Day!!!

My new eq is: (all O'Clock) Gain: 10, Depth on, Bass 3 3/4, Mid 3, Treble 12 1/2, and Presence 10 - it works really well for me live, but yeah, I'm definitely investing in an EQ pedal, had the MXR 10 band in my sights for ages now, definitely a good investment! :)

I went for a Hardwire reverb, not bad at all, probably my favourite sounding verb other than Dr Scientist's RRR, still considering a delay though, nothing quite like it for slow melodic solos ;)

  • @PaulGaijin Happy new METAL day too dude...:-) Your settings match mine. I like the MXR 10 band and being 18 volts it'll give more head room. I also like the 6 band as it gives more range (18db's of cut/boost - the 10 band is only 12db). For delays, I was thinking TREX Reptile, Maxon AD999 however, Strymon Brigadier is awesome. Guitar Buyer said "even if you've never played guitar BUY IT" check it out on youtube seems so versitile and can delay to 5,000 miliseconds (5 seconds).

  • MONSTER

how it will go with some 2X12?

  • @morikh24 Hey bro, try the ENGL E212VH horizontal cab with V30s. It sounds really awesome. Very rich and defined. Or you could try the Orange (UK made) 212 with V30s. That's nice too.

  • @morikh24 It should go absolutely fine! Just make sure you match the right ohms and wattage, a 2x12 might not be as "full" sounding, or push as much air - but it'll sound just as good!

  • @morikh24 Dude, I've just bought this and had the the ENGL 212 (horizontal) cab already and sounds really nice. Previously I had the Orange (PPC212 - UK made) and that sounded cool too. I prefer the ENGL cab as it's set at 8 ohms whilst the Orange is a 16 ohm cab and the ENGL cab is sturdier and that it's more compact with a more punchy sound...good luck

  • I regretfully sold my Fireball 60 to buy a Savage 120 and though I love the it, I miss my Fireball. However, my lovely wife gave me some cash for my 40th and now tossing up between the Fireball 60 or 100 watt or the Ritchie Blackmore. I think the Blackmore is good but not as heavy as the Fireball. Then again for home use mainly, the 100 watt would be too much so I think I'll go back to beginnings. One good thing is the new Fireball 60 comes in the black finish as the 100 watt. Looks awesome

  • @5150VanAlien Could always trade it for my Fireball :P

Didn't realize that the Fireball 60's came with black faceplates now! Looking pretty sexy! It depends on where you live and if you have nice neighbours, I mean the 100 model isn't that much louder to be honest, but it does have a different tone and bucket load more headroom. Don't think I'll ever sell mine, it's due a retube very very soon!

When you had the 60 originally, did you ever use Eurotubes retube kit?

  • @PaulGaijin Yeah, I would like to try the FB 100 as you say, it appears to have more headroom. In terms of retubing I used JJs gold pins for the pre amp but found little difference for the money I paid...not cost justified. I changed the power valves with originals from ENGL. Make sure it's with the same grade, as this is just a simple remove/replace exercise and no rebiasing needed. Better spending the money on a pedal. It will add more texture and last longer. Ciao.

  • @PaulGaijin Hey mate, forgot to mention, if you decide to change your valves, try Hotrox as the service and prices were good value. Stay away from Watford Valves as the guy who runs the place charges too much IMO and service could be better.

  • too bad its 2000 dollars

  • which model is that one exactly?

    Fireball 100 E635

    or

    Fireball E625

  • @rodas33 Hi, it's the E625 model.

  • Finally someone playing Death Metal style riffs on a demo. Nice playing.

  • That first riff is awesome!!! Very good playing overall.

  • @poipasoitposig Thanks man! Appreciate the comment!

  • @PaulGaijin Necrophagist style? =D

  • @PaulGaijin Hi there, just a question, which model is that one exactly?

    Fireball 100 E635

    or

    Fireball E625

  • Dam I wish I had this amp! Sounds so good from all the demos and revies I've been hearing! Would it be able to do 80's Thrash/Heavy Metal e.g Metallica, Slayer, Iron maiden etc.? Thanks for the demos btw! Great playing

  • @GuitarmanIeuan Thanks man, I think it might be a bit too modern sounding for those styles, probably best off looking at other companies, or perhaps a different Engl? Sorry I can't be more helpful but I'm not overly sure what amps to use for an 80's thrash sound. (Maybe Marshall, or Mesa Boogie?)

  • @PaulGaijin Alright thanks alot :) I was looking at Mesa Boogie's but these German amps are much cheaper in the UK compared to the American Mesa Boogie's. Thanks again :)

  • @GuitarmanIeuan Marshall or randall will get your tone

  • is it true that Fireball cant cut through live? Can the 100 watts version do it better?

  • @SEVIL999 Not sure where/why this rumour started, but I can assure that you'll have no problems cutting through live! The 100watt version has more focus on the lower mids, is darker and perhaps slightly "meatier"?

Besides that, most venues mic the cab anyways and adjust the volume. The only issue I've experienced is the sound guy not turning on the monitors so I can't hear anything at all :P

  • ummmm did anybody NOT notice the fucking insane guitar playing, dude u are amazing, o and the amp sounds good also lol

  • Hi, i want to buy a new amp and this one very interest me but i just wanna know something, when you switch from clean to ultra grain with the footswitch does the volume stay the same between the two channel?

Thanx! Cool video by the way!

  • All three parts of this review are excellent. Thanks very much.

Question: is the voicing of the 60W Fireball the same as the 100W ? is the only difference volume and headroom? 60W should be ridiculously loud (seems to me); not sure why I'd spend the extra for the 100W version...?

  • @doctornerve Thanks, when I get a chance, I'll do a proper review using mics with more time dedicated to comparing the bright/depth switches, the use of the EQ, and comparing speaker choices.

To answer, as far as I can remember, the 100watt Fireball is darker with more focus on the lower mids, though it's been a while since I last played one so I might be wrong... best thing to do is try them both out, and see which one you prefer most. I'm looking into getting another Engl.

  • @PaulGaijin Thanks Paul. I see the 60W shares a gain between both channels, so I'm interested in the 100.

I tried a Screamer a while back and was disappointed in the buzzy/fizzy quality of the gain channel. Did I just dial it in wrong?

  • @doctornerve No worries!

The shared gain hasn't been an issue for me, as I never have it past 10 O'Clock. I managed to play the 100 again: I find the 100 to be a bit meatier than the 60, with more focus on the low/centre mids, somewhat like a cleaner 5150, and on top of that, as you mentioned, it's got more headroom, so it stays cleaner as you crank it.

I'll probably be going for the 100 for my next amp. (Or maybe the Savage... choices, choices!)

  • @PaulGaijin 'tis a fine life we lead, rich in brutal choices

  • @doctornerve If only I were actually rich! ;)

  • which type of cabinet do you use for this recording?!

  • @ThePHILHABS Check the description...

  • Which type of cabinent do you use on this recording?!

  • What I love about ENGLs is that you don't need an OD in front of it to make it sound tight.

  • Hi, have you tried the fireball 100, and do u know if it has the same amount of gain? thnx!

  • @ogardsveien Hey, I've briefly played it, they have about the same gain, I'd probably get the 100 over the 60 as it has a bit more mids, lowend and is slightly darker, which I prefer. But both do a fantastic job, it's entirely up to you.

  • @PaulGaijin ok. I'm only after which sounds best (but everyone has different opinions). The noise gate i don't really need because I have ordered an ISP Decimator, (which is probably a better noise gate?) But if the 100w cuts better thru that's really great. U shure know about the wine the Balls get about being scooped, but that's probably not a problem with the 100w. probably getting a 4*12 black engl cab that looks brutalt woth both amps. =) I read that the blackstar cabs are great value thou?

  • AAAAARHG! I want to buy a Fireball, but don't know which one to pick. I know the 100w version has some extra features, but the only one I'm interested in is the midboost function. Could someone help me? I am only interested in differences in sound, and whether the 60w sounds like the 100w with the midboost OFF or ON. Does anybody know if I can tweak to the same sound as the midboost in the ON positiion with the 60w? thank you very much for replying.

  • Judging by your name...are you in Japan? If so how do your neighbors deal with the noise?

  • @JJLipton Nope, I'm actually from the UK - the name was from a band I was previously in, so now I'm stuck with it.

As for the neighbours, at bedroom volumes it's fine, during the day when I crank it a little more, they don't seem to mind, haven't had a single noise complaint.

  • Gain monster? the gain was only at 5 (12 oclock) ? thats crazy.

  • awesome playing boss!!! quick question though, how heavy/big is that amp head, Im looking for like a smaller amp head/stack combo kinda like a krank rev/krankenstein Jr pro, or a Bogner alchemist 40 watt head with the 1X12/2x12 type deal. is this like a full sized amp head? I have a randall v2 amp head and that thing is huge and heavy, Im hoping this is nothing near as big or heavy!! thanks for your time.

    Drew

  • WOW, gain is at 12o'clock?? That is a crapload of gain.

  • I was thinking about buying this amp but man..this almost too brutal for me lol. Can it do 80's metal and legato stuff as well?

  • hmm sounds like a typical disorted amp... Randall G3 Plus sounds more brutal...

  • how does this amp compare in tightness and definition to the savage?

  • squished turd muffin ^_^ lol

i was just being silly. I am, after all, a Silly Bean :P

    myspace Forever Silly Beans

  • Comment removed

  • yeah because any geniues will tell you that 60Watts is more than 100Watts........ dude, seriously?

  • @A7Xsnaff The perceived difference in volume isn't all that big between the two, 3dB if IIRC. But I was actually refering to what you said, it being a squished turd.

The difference boils down to more headroom on the higher watt amps, as far as I know.

  • @A7Xsnaff though whats weird is, in some cases the lower wattage tend to be a bit louder due to speaker stress etc. >_> though if you own a line 6 spider valve, nothing is louder than those.

  • @custommade21 go try a triple rec......THEN see if you still think the spiders are the loudest

  • @mopheadthe3rd i recorded an album with a triple rec and couldnt stand to be in the same room as it. i had to run to the control room to be bothered with hearing how it sounds.

  • @A7Xsnaff stop being mad that he has an ENGL and you have an 8 inch Rocktron

  • you should also keep in mind that any tube amplifier is going to give off more of it's fruits when being pushed. the world is filled with children that need the half stack for their bands "shows" that will need them. a solid state amp might need the additional power but most tubes at 50 watts are enough to make your ears bleed while retaining the clarity/practicality one might want

  • aaahh, i heard from a source that the 60W is like a squished turd muffin compared to the 100W :P

  • @A7Xsnaff Evidently not, whoever told you that is an idiot.

  • if this is the Fireball, why is the face plate reflective? is this the E635?

  • @A7Xsnaff

The face plate is reflective on all the Fireball 60watt amps, the 100watt Fireballs have the black face plate.

  • this amp sounds amazing but dont buy it unless you want to change the gain knob every time you switch from clean to lead whitch makes live playing impossible save up the extra 250 bucks (its how much more i payed for mine) and get the powerball 100. seperate clean and lead gain knobs and a built in noise gate (which you'd be spendng about 200 on anyways because you need one with this amp) and 40W more power. trust me its 110% worth it!

  • Really? I've not once had to change the gain knob when switching channels, and the amp is expensive enough, bare in mind not everyone has a spare 250 for the Powerball - though if versatility is a must, then the Powerball is the way to go if you want an Engl, and 60watts is more than enough for gigging (100watt amps aren't much louder, you'll just gain more headroom which will give you a cleaner clean at higher volume levels, and better bass response.)

  • @tsw915 40 watts more power? For what? So you can have around 3dB of actual volume increase?

  • @guitarthroat That't not the only think that changes between the 60w & 100w.

  • @NeoMetalx Well, I guess if you say so. I'm an electrical engineer and have been building and modding amps for several years now. And the ONLY thing I can notice as an audible difference (unless you're a mutant and possess superhuman hearing) is that to acheive a power distortion, 100 watts has double the headroom. So distortion occurs in the power section at a much higher output level. REGARDLESS, the decibel level by doubling the power stage is NOT a proportionate ratio.

  • Comment removed

  • @NeoMetalx Here are some tables I ripped because I was too lazy to sit and plug numbers into the equation:

40 watts is 94% as loud as 50 watts.

30 watts is 86% as loud as 50 watts.

25 watts is 81% as loud as 50 watts.

22 watts is 78% as loud as 50 watts.

20 watts is 76% as loud as 50 watts.

18 watts is 74% as loud as 50 watts.

15 watts is 70% as loud as 50 watts.

I have friends that swear that not all 100 watt amps are as loud as others.

  • @NeoMetalx Of course, a decibel meter doesn't lie. Usually even old Marshall heads with hand-wired transformers are only about .5 to maybe 3 dbs difference in range.

  • @NeoMetalx Here's the electrical equation you can plug the numbers in to prove it:

    X% volume increase = 2^log10(P2/P1) * 100% of total available volume output.

  • when i play my fireball loud i get pretty nasty feed back when im not touching the guitar. is a noise gate just to put on the end of a string of effects or can you put one between your guitar and the amp and will this solve my problem, thanks!

  • Every high gain amp (as far as I know) inherently suffers with feedback at higher volume levels - and yep, a noise gate will definitely sort this problem out!

  • should be done in april may or so but im not really sure.

of course, thnx mate! it will be interesting to compare. The fireball is so br00tal and clear at the same time, while i find the 5150 just br00tal, but one has as you said to compare them.

  • Nice one! You have to make a demo video of it!

Both are brutal amps though, one bludgeons you to death, the other surgically removes your organs... both doing the same job, but with different methods. Depends on your preferences really!

  • @DestroyinatorFurAlle i traded my 5150 for a engl fireball and couldn't be more happy

  • how would you compare a 5150 to the fireball? i have never had the chance to test the both of them at the same time.or with the same guitar.

cause i have a fireball just sitting in my room waiting for my blackmachine and orange cab to arrive.

  • Holy shred batman, you're getting a Black Machine?! When's it due?

If you have the head, your best bet is to find a local or not so local shops who stock the 5150 - then just bring your guitar and Fireball and compare the two through the same cab and using the same guitar.

Alternatively, you could look for anyone on a guitar related forum and see if they own a 5150 and ask them to have a jam and compare the two... worst case scenario, you can compare clips of the amps online.

  • Hey man!

    Great Review!

Gotta tell you, your review made me buy one of these basterds! And it sounds badass metal! I am very happy with my new amplifier! I also bought the Engl 4x12 standard cabinet, and now I really get the sound I have always been wanting! Thanks you!

  • Thanks! Glad you liked the review!!!

You've got to make a video using the Fireball with that Engl cab!!! I bet it slays!

  • 0:20 is orgasm of epic tone and riff.

  • Very Nasty , I had the wrong idea that this amp was made only for rock and blues.

  • maybe on the computer speakers.. but in person I bet that thing slays..

  • Pretty much this! The webcam is a terrible way to record the amp I must admit... though it's killer in person!

  • Hi,

I was wondering if the fireball sounds decent at bedroom levels?

I would like to get one and be able to use it also at home to practice.

From what I see you are getting a good tone at low levels (what level is the master on?).

    Are you using an attenuator?

    thanks :)

  • Hi (sorry for the late reply)

Yeah it sounds pretty decent at lower volumes, in this video it's slightly above bedroom levels, though it doesn't change at all when you turn it down, still the same amount of gain - just less volume.

Nope, no attenuator at all (kinda pointless for this amp in my opinion).

  • Nice parker!

  • I recently changed my pre-amp valves (after 4 years) with Tung-Sol ECC803 gold pins and I did notice less noise and more definition in the high-end and middle tones.

I also changed the power valves (again after 4 years without ANY probs) with the original 6L6GC from the ENGL factory so I didn't have to rebias (same grade too) and this baby sounds awesome.

Very glad I have it, it's a no nonsense metal amp. I prefer plug in and play.

Everytime I think of selling this amp, I think otherwise.

  • Nice one!

Thanks for that, I'll be changing tubes soon (current tubes are about 3 years old now), so I'll definitely look into the Tung-Sol's you mentioned.

I don't think I'll ever sell it, and I'll definitely be buying some more Engls in the future!

  • Here, here!!! I'm considering buying the Ritchie Blackmore as it's on the other side of the ENGL family and again, it's a simple amp to set up. Just like the Powerball is the more complex model, such is the Savage 120.

I like the Blackmore is a 'clean' heavy sound which I prefer too.

  • Yeah, the Blackmore is an awesome amp, simplicity/no nonsense is the best way to go.

When I was buying the Fireball, I was split between a 5150, the Fireball and the Blackmore - It was the toughest decision I've ever had to make!

What gear do you own so far?

  • Hey Dude,

I have the ENGL Fireball, the ENGL E212VH horizontal cab and it's a marriage made in metal heaven.

I also have 2 Les Paul Standard's each tweaked with Seymour Duncan pick ups, steel jack plates, speed knobs and gotoh machine heads. Now looking at the Blackmore head and thinking of buying the new Fender American Specials....

The good thing about the Blackmore is that it's priced well compared to the Savage, Invader and other higher end models.

    Take Care

  • hopefully gettin this for christmas! sounds amaaaaazing!

  • Nice one! I've been messing with the amp a lot recently and finally got my perfect tone!

    \m/

  • yea i messed around with it at a local guitar shop and it only took me like 2 minutes! i was blown away by this amp

  • Finally someone that does a ENGL demo and actually knows how to play some reaaaal fuckin music! 5stars dude, you got a myspace or something?

  • love your guitar what is it?

  • Thanks, it's a Parker P42

  • awesome i was going to buy the fire ball but its like 800£ were can u get them in uk? or did u buy online im looking at the engl thunder head

  • ..do you use an Noisegate or something?

My ENGL has a lot of feedback with these settings!

  • Nope, no noise gate, couldn't afford one when I made those vids... though if I turn up the volume it's quite noisy with lots of feedback!

If your amp is making lots of noise at low volumes, it could be a tube gone bad?

  • the best amp i ever bought.....

  • When people ask is 60 watts enough?

I just laugh!!! I have this baby and just try putting the master volume past 2...

Don't forge the gain knob also acts as a second volume...trun it all the way to zero and you'll see what I mean.

Buy this amp...you'll never regret it.

  • Can't wait...Come oooooooooooon refund taxes...lol

  • should I get this amp It's kinda a toss up between this the Madison divinity III and the framus cobra I'm looking with more gain than I will ever use and nice smooth bottom end not like mesa there two thin and grainy sounding for me

  • Umm not sure what to suggest really, if IIRC, the Framus is just as raw as the Fireball, but either amp has way too much gain on tap!

That said, even at the highest gain settings they won't get too muddy... atleast my one doesn't.

As for smoothness, not entirely sure, to my ears the Fireball/Framus are both raw sounding with plenty of bite, so if you're after something a little smoother, an ENGL Blackmore would do the job, or maybe an ENGL Invader? Both have stupid amounts of gain!

  • @PaulGaijin just wanted to let you know i got the blackmore about 5 or 6 months ago and i love it best thing Ive ever heard. The max i ever need on gain is 12 o'clock and even that is just a stupid amount of gain. Very thick tight smooth amp with a clean that almost beets my old blues jr. thanks for the advice. So i guess next is a diezel vh4, if i get to the point were i have 5 grand i don't need lol

  • Great tone! I put a sonic maximizer on the loop and i use a VHT cab. It was un-be-lie-va-ble!!!! \m/

  • Could imagine! \m/

  • since this amp only has 60 watts, i was wondering whether it has enough power to be in a band situation.

    thanks =)

  • More than enough, it's stupidly loud!

  • Lol.

  • are you using active or passive pickups?

  • Passive.

  • cool demo... why do you have a laney box?

i'm asking, because i want to buy a laney box for myself, but i have no expierience with the box models recommended for the VH100R... there is the GS412P cab (the one that you have) and the other (GS412IA, loaded with celestion seventy80 speakers). witch ones you would recommend?

  • Thanks, I have a Laney cab because at the time, that's all I could afford.

In an ideal world I would run the amp through a Mill's cab, but until then, I'll be using these.

I can't really comment on the newer cab as I've yet to play them side by side. Though if you're set on buying either, they're decent cabs, just not amazing.

  • okay thank you for your opinion, i will think about it...

  • If you`re still looking for a cab for VH100R, I recommend Orange cabs. A friend of mine has this combination and it`s a killer. My ENGL cab sounded good as well but we ended up with Orange.

  • okay, thanks for the tipp ! anyway, i will buy a laney cab with vintage30 speakers.

  • To each their own.

  • hey i gotta question....does it have gigh sensitiveity gain and sound without a tube screamer, because i wanna play BMTH and other type of tone

  • Not sure what you're asking, but the amp at any volume is really reactive to your playing style, it never loses any definition or sensitivity, but it is a noisey amp (as with any high gain amp) so a noisegate is a must if you're playing at high volumes.

Not sure what a BMTH style tone is..?

  • I gotta say that your review of this amp (vids 1-3) are probably the best sound/playing wise on the net man. Thanks. Def a very very very br00tal sound! cheers dude!

  • Hey man! Im teh br00tulz!

  • Engl is sex for the ears! Thanks for the vids.

  • hey i have a dual recto and love the metal sound but was considering a marshall jvm as i want more tone varieties, for blues etc what do u think? cheers

  • Hmmm... well, I've never played many Marshall's, only a JCM for about 5 minutes, so I can't really comment on them, but I have played a Laney GH100L and VH100R, and I think they'd do well for blues, also look into Vox, and Fender's Blues Deluxe/Deville....

That said, I'm sure Marshall will do blues well, but I think you're asking the wrong guy haha, I'm more geared towards Metal amps and gear... alternatively, if you want a wide range of tones, a Vetta would do great!

  • cheers dude, ill stick with my dual rectifier for now :)

  • Hey, Thanks!

I think DT use a combination of Mesa's to get their sound, if I remember correctly, they were: Triaxis pre-amps, Dual Rectifiers, Road Kings and Mark IV's... There's probably a lot more then that, but I'm not clued up on what they used. So if you want to get their sound and a Metallica-ish sound, then the best way to go would be with Mesa as the Engl Fireball isn't very versatile and is just a whole different beast!

  • sounds really nice!

i was just wondering, can you compare this to mesa dual rec? which one is better? engl fireball is great and its much cheaper than any mesa boogie head, but im dreamin about mesa boogie for a long time now.

i dont have enough money to buy mesa and fireball is my next possibility, so i need some advice.

im playing stuff like dream theater, slayer, metallica, zeppelin, SRV... i need versatility also

    thanks in advance!! :)

  • That said, the Powerball would be a great amp for versatility... Has better cleans then Recto's (IMO), gets a decent Marshall-esque tone (might even pull off Zep?), where as the Recto won't, also, Engl's sound great at lower volumes.

Mesa and Engl have a completely different sound, so you'll have to play both to see which you prefer, not to mention Mesa are crazy expensive outside the US!

    Hope that helps.
