  • I have encountered similar rocks on Nova Scotia's eastern shore. They're commonly called phonolites, and are welded in such a manner that they resemble metal when struck.

  • The rocks are diabse, an intermediate in composition ophitic igneous rock. No phonolitic rocks occur in the Mesozoic instrusives in the Piedmont.
