It has nothing to do with rules It has nothing to do with age It has nothing to do with who won the game you imbeciles its all about progress Look at the progress of woman in the last 50 years where is the progress of men ? Last I checked it was Viagra In about 25 years woman will beat men at their own games they will outnumber men in politics ( based on men vs woman who continue to higher education ) I hope you will still be around to see that
Riggs and King played by the double standard rules I noted. Mr Hawalidispenser, you did not read the full format rules which are ignored by the general media for some reason. Lots of times the articles ignore this, possibly for reasons related to "political correctness".
I'm here to post the full facts about the Riggs-King match. In addition to the age difference; Ms King was allowed to hit the ball into the doubles boundaries while Riggs had to hit into Kings single court. Also, Ms King could serve twice when faulting, while Riggs was allowed just one strike at the ball. With all that, he still put up a decent match against the worlds' best female tennis player.
@MrSkiwicz I just read the current Straight Dope Column about this very subject, and Riggs and King played by the same court rules. What you're probably thinking of was the Connors/Navratilova match in 1992 in which they did use the rules you stated.
You're way too offensive and demeaning to women! I hope you're mother, sister, girlfriend or daughter doesn't encounter asshole guys like your self! If you think woen are just good in bed (as your video claims), then you don't deserve a woman who will love you. I hope all the women in your life who matter to you dies horrible deaths for you don't think of them as worthy persons anyway.
Somehow, whenever the King-Riggs match is brought up, nobody remembers to add that Bobby Riggs was 55 YEARS OLD at the time! He was in his prime in the 1930s!
There was another Battle of the Sexes match played: Martina Navratilova and Jimmy Connors, in 1992. Connors gave her a handicap but still prevailed in 3 straight sets!
Well that was the point of the match - Riggs said that even though he was 55, he could still beat any of the top female players. Not many people would argue that the top female players could beat the top male players.
Riggs DID beat the top female player in the world. He beat Margaret Court, ladies' #1 in 1973, by a score of 6-2, 6-1. It was the famous "Mother's Day" match.
If there were so much as a single doubt in anyone's mind about whether the women could play with the men, we would just have tennis, not men's & women's tennis.
BUt it was as easy for Billie to lose that as she had all the pressure-she had more to lose. Especially after Margaret Court lost. Also, if you're used to playing against powerful strikers at the time like Evert, Court, etc.,it's harder to adapt to Riggs "pace less" shots as you're forced to supply your own pace. Billie may have been younger but all Riggs did was used his opponents pace. It was billie who had to sweat it out; And Navratilova lost because she's almost as "old" as Connors.
not for nothing but I know a girls that will baggle you no problem .

the vid's a bit flawed: the "winning point" actually lands in the doubles alley.

He-heh I know the dude who wrote the Bobby Riggs biography. Nice guy we have played a few times.
Anyway the real question is whether a strong college male - not quite NCAA winner, but a strong player nonetheless -- can beat a pro female.
My money's on Serena.

Thanks, golf. Actually, I must correct myself: Connors beat Navratilova in TWO straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
Connors was given only one serve, and Navratilova got to hit into the doubles alley.
That match was a much fairer fight than King-Riggs. Connors is only 4 years older than MN, and both retired from the game at about the same time.

Too much chauvinism at the end but i appreciate the sentiment. Women have no right to think that they are better, (but then again neither do men).
