umm i think i would not do that in my truck.I got a 1998 ford f150.but it is a v6 with a 4.2l in it.and it is a 2 wheel drive truck.god damn 2 wheel drive truck's.
I miss my 2001 Ford F-150 should have never sold it dirve a 1994 Chevy Impala SS now planing on getting another 2001 F-150 in October!
However on the plus side my 1995 Ford Econoline 250 Cargo Van still going strong. Cast Iron straight 6 made at Brookpark Engin and Casting Plant Brook Park, Ohio then assembled at Lorain/Avon Assembly!
@hickster699 Atleast FORD didnt take a bailout! Dodge took one in the 70's and this last one and my grandpa has had his 63 f-100 since it was new and its all original . In case you didnt know there's good and bad in all but ford just sells more! Sales prove the facts!
i like the pre 97 designs better. yes the Modular engines do put out more power and torque and do use less gas, but dropping the ultra reliable and powerful 300i6 was the all time stupidest thing Ford ever did. plus everything is just crammed in under the hood in the newer ones, you cant even work on them. its actually easier to unbolt the cab, front fenders, and hood to get to the engine, which is what people have to do now.
i have a 1997 ext cab V6 with 256,XXX miles and has never broken on me. still runs and hauls like it should, chek out the video i have of it towiing a 1 ton bar b q pit.
To mexicn14 I have to disagree cause chevy is not on top... Because chevy almost went bankrupt not to long ago but they got bailed out... And did ford almost... Um nope they didn't :P
This amazes me. Here it is 2010 and I'm on a broadband connection and it took over 5 minutes to load this minute long video. Love the F-series though. I got a 98 F-150 and I love it.
I love my 1997 V6 F150 but........The early 97 V6 trucks had engine problems. Most engines had to be replaced around 75K miles. Every time I go get parts for it I'm asked "Replaced the engine yet" "YES i have" $4,000 out of pocket.
@evinrudeboy6601 SOOO ugly??? I don't think so. I think its a beautiful truck, more than the newer F150s, but I guess that everybody has the right to express its own ideas.
darn good trucks...my bro got his'97 used in '98 with about 18k miles used, drove the wheels off it, hard till the tranny started to slip at like 150k miles. it was rebuilt and my other brother bought it off him...he drove it to over 210k miles, still with just regular maint. till it was slightly rear ended, repaired and sold. hes got an expo now and wants a truck again ha ha...take care of ur truck and she'll take care of you for years to come
my 97 has 260,000 miles on it... all ive done in 2 years ive had it is normal oil changes an alt. and heater core great truck still wish i had my 78 though alot easier to work on lol
@trublufan84 i love my 2000 f150 it has 210000 miles and i aint ever hade a tune up. just the fucking coil packs suck..idk y they got rid of the spark plugs?
dads '91 ranger survived 3 accidents, buyers fawned all over it till we sold it, bro's '97 F150 sold with 210k miles with only a tranny rebuild, my 01 Taurus is over 140k with no issues, jus regular maint. we are effectively a Ford Family, and yes Ford 4 life
that ranger had the 3.0 OHV V6, and had 150k miles when we got it, and sold with about 230k, still ran well for its age. dad is on his 2nd ranger, a '99 this time, same Vulcan V6, with about 135k miles, just tune up, regular maint. no issues since bought. my taurus has the Duratec 30 and stil has power to burn. my wifes '99 sable has the Vulcan V6 with only about 113k miles and just an alternator/water pump to report...stuff started goin bad cuz it sat a while before it sold.
@pman1018 My 02 is a piece...the 4.2L sucks (cracked lower intake manifold, computer issues, runs horribly on 85 or 86 octane), clutch is weak as hell with temperamental throwout bearings. U-joints are iffy. Oh this was all before it hit 100k on the odometer. Bumper mounts won't hold what the bumper says it should. Oh how I wish Ford would've but the 3.9L Cummins instead, or even the 300 straights.
@pman1018 i agree, the f-series is the first truck ever built back in the days, 2004 truck of the year was the f150, 2009 truck of the year was f150, ford has always been there for us
Man, how do they do those commercials with abuse to make it tough. If I tried that with the 01 F150 I got, it would be destroyed. Including the off road scenes.
the offset crash test was barely introduced at that time. Everyone has seen that vid but comparable trucks from GM or Dodge would probobly fare the same. Agreed it was pretty scary but Fords are the epitome of safety today
They aren't too bad, but I like the 78-79 and 87-96 F-series trucks better. Test drove a Lariat I think it was a 99 with manual 4X4 we tried using the 4X4 and the damn thing kept popping into neutral and kept griding....oh well not my truck :)
Plus the Cruise control deactivation switch....I'm a 1973-1996 Ford truck guy myself.Never liked the 1997 newer F150.Too much like a car.I like a truck with a bench seat and no power.Don't need no power seats.Or air conditionin.
My uncle has a 2000 F150 Sport with the 4.2 V6 and 5 speed trans. That truck has over 350,000 miles on it and has never left him stranded. It still runs great and doesn't burn any oil.
like the 1992-1996 Fords, they are the longest lasting i got just under 250,000 kms on a recently fliped over 4.2L and it runs great, sounds like these are the newest best built truck ever. tons of them on the road, oh wait fords the best truck.
good luck with that v8 chevy motor on gas man....the 97 f150 is great on gas, rides pretty smooth too....wont be spending 200 a week at the pumps..let me as how much does it take u to fill up that tank?..takes me 64.60.
92501riverside, how many times have you reringed that engine and replaced those bearings? lol
Just kidding, but in all seriousness, I've also seen the "almighty 350" send its internals all over the road at anywhere from 70-150k. Ford trucks just last longer. You think your C/K having 310k is something special? Hell, my 1991 F150 Nite with the stock 302 that just turned over 260K and STILL runs like a bat outta hell. 1980-1996 were the golden years of the F150. Back then, if you bought an F150 you bought a real truck. Not.. whatever the hell THAT is.

@ZOSOrulz1 Your right but their all built that way now. Ford, Dodge, and Chevy.
alanyoung2 11 months ago
@ZOSOrulz1 i bet the reason for dropping the 300 is that they never break down so ford was loosing money on replacement parts.....so comes the 4.2
