I found the CURE for addiction and I have proof for this claim. Click on my name and witness Powerful Stories of Freedom. I personally know and have witnessed over 100 addicts who have found True and Lasting FREEDOM after being enslaved by their addictions for so long. I have been through many programs for my addiction, but have never found so much Hope, Joy, Peace, and Love than I have in the program I am in now. And the people I know who have given their stories are experiencing the same!
@11visionary11 That is not true, it is a disorder and it usually followed by a mental illness such as depression, bi-polar, etc. They cure to eat isnt that simple, you need many different kinds of therapy and doctors to cure these disease, for some there is no cure and they struggle with it the rest of their lives
@11visionary11- you are being so harsh by saying that, it is a desease but is mental, just because things like cancer don't develop by choice, I could claim that cancer isn't a desease from the same evidence you have... Cancer isn't a desease because people choose to smoke so they choose to develop cancer, she wasn't saying it wasn't a desease only saying you have a choice to get rid of it if you make yourself strong and determined enough to face the truth.
I agree with you, Kat. EDs can't be labeled any one thing. They are a disease, and they are an addiction, but at one point, we do all make the choice to starve ourselves and throw up. I believe that then it becomes addictive because it seems to work, to ease the pain. Then we also have to make the choice to stop.
although this is a nice motivational message, it must be stressed that once the disease of addiction is in motion, you cannot just will it away. Addiction is not a matter of willpower, it is a hijacking of the motivational center of the brain. An addicted brain can't just choose to stop the behavior on its own.
But that doesn't mean you have NO choice or power over it. The power you have is to choose to seek professional help or a 12-step program and be active in your recovery, like she said.
It's a choice, whether you want to believe it or not. When you first start to make those choices to work hard at not eating is when you have the power to choose not to continue (much less start at all). You don't become anorexia overnight people. Stay true to yourselves....
well, okay I have/had anorexia. And I didn't "choooose" that, I saw something else in the mirror. Its the same now, and It was a really hard time back then. I know that I can't trust my eyes because the brain is showing me another person. Okay, it maybe is a choise to remain sick or to get better, but would U want to get fatter if U already thought U was fat? it's hard to say if it is a choice or not but for me it wasn't.
It is a choice. for example , drinking, you have the choice of whether or not to pick up the bottle. Its not like when your hand is going towards the bottle and your like "I can't stop my hand its moving on its own".
Read Explaining colours to a blind man. Not only will it enlighten many as to what living with a mental illness is like, it also gives comfort to those sufferers who think there is no hope and that they are alone. It is very informative, sometimes shocking but also very funny in parts. All in all, a good read and highly recommended.
I run a forum for people recovering/suffering from an eating disorder. The site is pro-recovery. If you would like the link, feel free to message me :) x
Hi i'm a student and am researching anorexia, i'm not an anorexic so just thought you or other people who see this could help me in my research. I would like to know your views on the representation of women in the media and games, was this a factor in triggering anorexia for you or was it something else?
Absolutely right! There isnt a medicine, a cure in a bottle for anorexia. Its a MENTAL illness, not some contagious disease thats thrust upon you. You dont suddenly 'catch' anorexia and likewise you cant suddenly be cured without taking some responsibility yourself. I know this as another recovered anorexic. And its an ENCOURAGING message!

I didn't want to be "fatter" but I COULD make a choice if I knew that the weight was right.

Illness? I agree with that. Addiction? I agree with that. Obsession? I agree with that. But... is it a choice? I don't agree with that one, sorry.
