That was very well said, and yes I think that YouTube is so amazing for that, because I think, "Wow, people in OTHER COUNTRIES are buying DPC's album" that's insane, and that would never of happened if it wasn't for YouTube and awesome people getting together to do awesome things. Keep doing what you're doing mixtapers.
Great words, Bill! It reminds me so much of what Glen Gould said 25 years ago. You know he was a greatly talented pianist, and left the public scene totally behind to play only for Columbia Records. He called what the people in the audience had a "Gladiator Spirit" that wanted him to fail, wanted him to fall so they could publically humiliate him in the newspapers.
You're very talented, Bill. I am sorry U have tasted bitterness in any area of your life.
For some reason, I feel like doctornoise probably answers the door with a microphone/mic stand in hand, just like in this video. Or perhaps, he just carries those things around everywhere he goes, so if you met him in public, and struck up a conversation, it'd look just like this video. And that's pretty cool.
Also, I did the band thing for 15 years. And, yeah. It mostly sucks.
This is inspiring. Also I can imagine getting good feedback, like you actually know people like your music through comments, whereas if you did a show in a concert hall then the only way you would find out is somebody telling you that ''most people'' liked it etc. Also I guess you can communicate more with your audiences? I dont play live gigs but I can imagine.
Awesome video, you make such a good point. I love being able to listen to quality music by people I actually know, whether personally or just by watching their videos. It makes the whole experience a lot more personal.
I like Youtube musicians for many reasons, one of the biggest is that they are more real to me other musicians. Here I can interact with the person, ask questions if I want and generally get a response.
YouTube really is a beautiful thing. Right now two of my friends are doing a project called Vlog EVery Day in September, or VEDS. And the cool thing is that we're not doing so in the hopes of YouTube fame or anything like that, we're doing it to challenge ourselves and to interact with each other on a unique and personal level, and I really like it a lot. I like that people can still do things without any thought of fame.
I love this channel so much. And I agree with almost everything you said. But here's an uncomfortable question: even within the YouTube music scene, isn't it also matter of who you know? After all, DFTBA can't promote EVERY YouTube musician. Even in the relatively open world of YouTube, power centers coalesce, don't they?
Youtube is where all the cool people are at :D It is such an awesome community
And I love that there's the opportunity to listen to so much amazing music. I think it's great that most of my favourite musicians are people who my my friends have never heard of.
I'd have to agree Doc - it's become increasingly clear to me that YouTube is where all the musical talent hangs out (particularly as popular music drifts further and further away from my tastes). YouTube has allowed me to find a 300-strong audience in a matter of months (thanks to you, Alan, Karen and many others) which is infinitely faster than any IRL musical career could have done.
I think some people lose touch with why they make music. If it's just to get ahead and seen...that's sad. But, at least not everyone has such stupid motives behind creating and sharing their music. ;)
I AGREE YOUTUBE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"So, Mr. Robinson, you seem to have a bad fracture in your shin bone. I'm afraid you won't be rock climbing for a few months."
"Well is there any way to speed up the recovery?"
"Well. there is one way."
"I'll do anything, Doctor."
"I'll bring in Dr. Noise, and we'll see what he can do."
"Dr. Noise?"
*Enter Dr. Noise*
"BLAAAAAAARGH!!"
"Thankyou Doctor! It seems your unceasing screaming has shocked my fibula back into place! Unfortunately you hvae now shattered my ear drums."

But yeah, I completely agree, Youtube is awesome for that reason. I'd much rather listen to you guys than most of what's on pop radio today anyway.
