i see big country at knebworth supportlng queen they where fucking awesone loved them one of the best bands around at the time, and the responce from the crowd was spectacular
Oh my actual God, I haven't seen this for 20 years and more. I'm another who wore out a VHS tape re-watching this. I wasn't particularly a fan of Big Country, just happened to tape this show and watch it back later - and see a band who are clearly enjoying themselves more than any other I've ever seen, I think. Blew me away, especially the wit and fun of this bit. I bought The Crossing the next day...
Saw the band in Sheffield same year. It was crazy the security guys spent more time on stage getting rid of ppl who kept jumping on and running up to Stuart.
This is simply outstanding....and which BBC numb nuts decided it would be a good idea to end the program as Fields of Fire is reaching it's crescendo? This is as good a liver performance as I've seen.
Seen them live 5 times. Great happy teenage memories of this brilliant band...Blasting them out loud in my Ford Escort...Memories of great times out with the lads...wearing the white/black & red/black check shirts. Great looking and listening to them still. Great memories of a great time in my life...
I remember Knebworth park way back in 1986 when they supported Queen on 'the magic tour'. Stuart took a photo of the crowd saying its the most that Big Country had played to. I was so pleased to be a part of that crowd.
somewhere in the bbc archives this sits rotting on tape, come you old swines, get this gig released on DVD, i mustve watched this a thousand times on my adolescent VHS tape back in the day. - i remember harvest home, in a big country? and chance??? from the same gig. even though this music is not considered so 'cool' anymore (or ever was?) , Stirs somethign in your soul this tune.
@tilly15773 I don't remember it being incredibly cool, there were a few of us, some more than other, who thought it was though. People made two mistakes with Big Country, and probably still do today. The first one is not listening to it as loud as your equipment will allow. (esp Fields of Fire) The second was they don't listen, they hear. You really have to give this stuff your full attention. There is so much depth and texture that it's not a passive exercise.
I was at this concert and it was great..as this band always were. This was a fan club concert and tickets were free for members. They really cared about the fans and the fan club was the best i was ever in. A much missed band who cared.
Heh I won tickets for there too, wasnt it first certain amount in the cue they got free tickets, think I was about third in que, I was determined to get mine.Well worth the wait though.x
bands like this DO exist, but they're not in stadiums or on the radio. you have to go out and support them, just like the fans in dumfernline did for BC.
there is no better band. i text virgin radio 4 times in one day for big country they were playing 80s all day, did they play it, NO!! how could they have an 80s day without BC. more people should text in
I'm with rich and Tilly below. Made up to find this clip, through no genius of my own got propelled in the crush to centre front. saw the boys all over the uk, massive part of my life for many years but this was probably the best gig i saw for atmosphere. Thanks to neilfunn, made my day!! shouldn't pine for the old days, but god i miss that band.
I must have seen BC over 20 times. They are a quiz for pairs of tickets for this televised gig in the Sun. I entered 20 times and got 6 pairs! Im at the front. think I recognise my right arm. See the new live stuff just the three of them without stuart. Goodluck to them but its quite tearful to see not stuart.
Fukking hell - thats amazing - really made my day finding this - used to have it on an old VHS tape from my childhood - watched it to death - never thought it would appear on here. Dont suppose any one got the other Reading tunes on dvd i buy off them have they? Tilly
Stuart was a true genious, their last album with him (Driving to Damascus) is a masterpiece! I mean, almost every album is good, but it is a nice comeback.
Literally just got back from their reading hexagon gig today on the crossing the country tour. I am amazed, they are still great, stay alive!!!

I had a battered old C90 audio of this recorded from the TV in 86.....it broke a few years ago, thanks for posting.
Does anyone know whether this concert is for sale anywhere? I remember it being a BBC recording.

@tilly15773 Not cool?
Honestly, if kids that listened to todays so called "rock" heard this stuff, especially driving to damascus material, they would fucking love it!

RIP Stuart- gone way too soon and still badly missed.

An inspired performance with a real sense of joy about it.
Great look on Mark's face near the end during Stuart's solo.
