My girlfriend bought all of Vanity's albums back in the day. When her parents were out. She'd play this Samuelle, and Under the Influence and we'd dance slowly, make out, make love and make some really awesome memories.
I deleted my comment about Vanity. I'm really sorry to offend her or you. Hope were still pals. And I do respect her new found faith. I didn't research my quote enuf I only know about the old Vanity and not much about her new life. Love Lee and Kitty xxx
Beautiful song by a BEAUTIFUL LADY. Oh by the way the reason Vanity was not in Purple Rain was because at the time she had a big cocaine problem , she quit the project and Prince did not want want to put up with her coke problem.
@ARMONI555 "Vanity" turned it down due to Prince not wanting to pay her the amount she wanted, so she did Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon movie, which came out about a year after Purple Rain. "Vanity" did help with the movie Purple Rain in a indirect way though. Apples wanted to meet "Vanity" to get a feel of the style and character she was to portray. "Vanity" and Apples became friends (Till this day) and hung out with each other afterward.
@IconVanity well there is a well documented rif between those 2 they broke up around that time, so from what i understand this was what sealed her fate. but you could be right maybe they broke up over money ? who knows
@ARMONI555 they broke up probably for a number of reasons, which one main reason was her then newly found love for cocaine. Her asking for more money to star in the movie Purple Rain was more than likely the final straw in their already rocky relationship due to, again, her then newly found love for cocaine.
I think you took that out of context , I meant she was the first beutiful black woman I had a crush on as a teenager. you should read the whole stream of comments between me and the other person to fully understand where i was going with that.
@ARMONI555 I didn't take anything out of context. I read the statement and what you said was ridiculous. It's not my responsibility to read an entire page of comments. You should have clarified yourself in the first statement.
Im not sure why your being hostile over something so minor , but whatever man, you can go to hell, if you don't like it don't comment on it you fucking fag. stop being and internet tough guy
@ARMONI555 I'm tired of being talking shit about black women and I'm going to call them out on it. I would say the same thing to your face. You fuck you ignorant piece of shit.
first of all learn english, cause your writing sucks, second of all homie I AM BLACK ! so what the fuck you saying?! I was giving the bitch a compliment, why the fuck you angry about that ?
listen idiot you never heard me put down black women at all thats your imagination acting up. go back and quote me if you think i insulted black women!!!! your not going to be able to find a quote cause there is none dumbass. my mother, wife, and daughter are black so im still at a loss as to why you think i insulted black women ? !!
@ARMONI555 For you to claim that Vanity is the first beautiful black woman you ever saw implies that other black women are not beautiful. It's an insult you fucking moron.
again you dont know what the fuck you talking about . obviously you you cant read. I said the first beautiful black lady i had a crush on. Do you know how fucking old I was ? no you dont so shut the fuck up and stop trying to streeeeeeetch the truth. let me ask you a question who was the first female you and a crush on as a young boy ? whoever that was doesnt mean you think all other women are ugly... your a real fucking moron, i mean ive chatted with some real stupid people but
without a doubt you take the cake for the stupidest asshole i have ever chatted with, your assuming,... and i think you got some type guilt or something going on with your psychy,,, just cause i said she was the first black girl i had a crush on you make it out that i think black women are ugly... your a real fucking idiot go away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would've loved to see her play her part along side of Prince in Purple Rain.
If anyone gets a chance, check out the Vanity's original version of Sex Shooter. I haven't found a studio quality version of it yet, but it's impressive nonetheless.
Vanity is truely an icon, a legend in her own time. True beauty & a classic essence about her that none can compete with.
She did an interview with Playboy in the 80s where she spoke of her time with Prince. She said she had fallen "deep" for him, and that she left his camp because she thought it was time to do her own thing. She even delved into the whole Vanity name and its origin.
im more so referring to her career. she could have been a lot bigger than she was even though vanity 6 was a underground sensation, her drug problems started after that, after prince and the Minneapolis scene
She was one of the most beautiful women ever. So sad that she was empty inside though. Her abusive childhood is what almost killed her. I have loved her since The Last Dragon. She has shown us now that she is equally beautiful on the inside and even though Vanity is dead and gone-I love the person in her place-Denise. She was truly a breathtaking and stunning woman.....one of a kind.
let me reframe that she was the first beautiful Black woman that I had a crush on growing up. As far as Purple rain there was an intense chemistry with Prince and Vanity and the director wanted that chemistry on film unfortunately Prince got a look alike to replace her. I read somewhere that the director felt that she would have been a bigger star (you know sell more records) if she was allowed to be the Love interest in Pr. But I guess we will truly never know.
The versions that I have are the original one that was without the corner photos of Vanity 6, and the edited one, where that too didn't have the Vanity 6 photos on the side, but her legs was covered up with more of the sheet. I also have the doubled sided Skin on Skin promo poster too. That one is my favorite. "Vanity" was so photogenic.
I've always liked this song and thought a video should have been made for it. A video with her in a boat on the french riviera like maddonna did in her vid "like a virgin". Also slow ballroom dancing.
OMG!!! i think i STILL have that poster in the beginning. i was OBSESSED with her!!! i cannot tell you how much i have enjoyed hearing these songs again. WHY?????????? arent her 2 albums on CD?????????
Calms my nerves while driving like no other as does Skin on Skin & Samuelle I love Denise & band songs now more then ever..load live performances if exist please anyone..
Lush, beautiful, sensuous----just like the singer herself(at least she was in 1986!) This song should have been promoted by Motown a lot stronger and it should have been a big hit on adult contemporary stations(at the very least). I still love Vanity!
She did it for a reason. She's in a better position w/ God now. And the whole "Vanity" thing is an embarassment to her now. But her music (to me) is legendary.
but you know what, I'm glad Vanity... err.. Denise doesn't deny her past. some folks who were in similar positions don't even acknowledge what was. I think she is much more respected now than she was then because of her decision to keep God number one.
(but still... sometimes I wish she would backslide and do Mechanical Emotion once! haha)
I have been searching as well for the song. I thought the title was I'll Take You On. It took 20 plus years to find it. Thank you so much for posting it !!!
