We have the slight advantage of being bigger than the kids. I am generally aware if the kids are going to cause damage to the costumes. If so, then I would move away or ask the parents for their help. Of course, that is what the spotters are for as well, but most of the time I do not have one. There is always an opportunity for patty-cake. :-P
