Hey Jim I love your tornado and waterspout footage I was Key Largo Florida back in 2009 and got to see a waterspout and I got my grandma as well and now I can say that I saw a tornado for me that was a milestone in my severe weather obsession. Keep chasing.
an example of how large and powerful waterspouts can get is the 2001 Sydney To Hobart waterspout. it was about 1000 feet wide and had winds estimated of that of an F2 tornado. wow i know too many tornado events.
How dangerous are waterspouts?? Do they have the same scale as a land tornado?? Does a spout once formed suck water from the top or the bottom of the ocean/lake/body of water??
@JackaCrack1 Most summer type waterspouts in subtropical waters are not nearly as strong as mid-west tornadoes. They are often mostly probably no more than F-1 and some of the most extreme cases maybe F-2 but only rarely. Usually when coming ashore they dissipate once making landfall..
I have to say that this footage right here is the best waterspout footage that I have ever seen. It was great watching it on dvd too with the spray ring circulating in.
and I hope you can find a "medium~small" one , one day . and get a vid from the inside ( so long as you stay safe) well good luck ,,, I'll subscribe now so I can be among the first to see . ,,, ho , already am
I have watched the DVD you gave me of this so many times - specifically the part where the wave that follows the spout comes ashore. The wave seems to grow and get bigger as the water becomes shallower, just like storm surge. Great stuff!
Wow! Great capture Jim! That was a very nice waterspout. I think it is cool that you can see through the waterspout, and that the funnel is visible, but the middle is invisible, and the spray kicking up over the water. Very cool I have to say.

UNBELIEVABLE! That wave coming onshore with the spray ring is incredible! This is definitely some of the best close-up waterspout footage I've seen.
