The other interesting thing is the dog doing the 2o2o comes off the end of the dogwalk off the side as he is watching you turn away from the dogwalk but the dog doing the running completes all the way to the end of the ramp before he turns off to look for you.
I didn't do Ivie's (2O2O) initial dogwalk training, and she's sort of just always been like that, coming off to the side. If I'm ahead, it's not as bad, but it's also not as fast. So I just try to be in a good spot.
With Josie, I always tried to keep her engaged in the obstacle until exiting it.
I think it's a function of how operant each girl is, and Josie is definitely moreso than Ivie. Likely a function of not having acquired Ivie until she was 5.5yo.
At least she has a good consistent dog walk. Aubie did that too. I guess he just didn't understand the concept of the 2o2o. I've tried other types of dog walks but I didn't get many clean zones.
I've had judges try to get there to see the down after watching the up, then shrugging like "well, I dunno!!" when they can't get there in time. At least they give the benefit of the doubt more often than not, which is what SHOULD happen!
Interesting stuff. However, by your own admission, Ivie's 2o2o dogwalk could be faster as she breaks stride early on the downside...and you did not do the initial training of that obstacle.
Yes, Nationals are won and lost by .01 sometimes.....and then sometimes they are lost by a missed dogwalk contact too. :-)
Yes, Ivie's could be faster! But, these videos were after all the work I did to speed them up from where they were. I'm not sure it gets better -- for her :-P
I'm not trying to diss the 2O2O, it's just an interesting comparison between MY two dogs, considering they come in so close on time when they both Q. Trying to find where Ivie makes it up :)
(I have a few of Cisco's dogwalks on film since they're so gorgeous, but didn't want to include other dogs without permission) :)
Did not think it was a diss at all! Very interesting and good point about the 2 running so close in time with the difference on the DW. That is wild!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, so let's see Cisco's dogwalk. I don't know, Renee, he has some of the fastest and most consistent 2o/2o contacts I've seen. I'd love to see the comparison.
I think Siryn would be halfway between Ivie and Josie. She doesn't break stride as early as Ivie (I think) but she will (sometimes) still think about stopping on the contact. ;) I'll have to tape her.
Josie's AF's are also much faster than Ivie's. Maybe there's difference in the teeter? I'm on a mission to figure it out now ;-)
BUT, on the flip side, it's also good news because it just means Josie has that much more *ground speed* to gain in the coming years, if Ivie has it (at 7) enough to make up for losing several seconds on the contacts, collectively, I know Josie'll be able to get it with age, experience, and confidence.
Seriously, though...everyone that knows Ivie is shocked to learn she is 7. She doesn't look like it or act like it in anything she does!
She's in supreme physical condition and has had no injuries plaguing her career thus far. As long as I keep her in excellent shape, I think she'll keep going strong for several more years. I'll of course keep an eye on her, and I already opt out of classes here and there with her. But she LOVES it so!!!
Wow, pretty consistent on their times. Ivie's are slower but she is definitely in while it's harder to tell if Josie got in or jumped it. These videos might have been before you went back and reworked it, though. Where Nationals are won and lost by .01, that 1 second difference is HUGE when Josie does get in!
Most of those are before I re-worked the striding on Josie's dogwalk, yes.
On the flip side, it sure is nice always knowing your dog's getting IN the contact at local shows, and getting those Q's towards titles. Whereas the super sonic speed can definitely be a make or break at a big event!!
I'll 'perfect' Josie's contacts one day -- we're getting there!
BTW, I timed Siryn's littermate's contacts (since he has such lovely running ones!!) and his were 1:26. YAY for the Jos!! :-)
You've done an excellent job with Josie and it's been a great learning process for you. I'm sure your next pup will benefit from everything you learned from Josie and will be even more impressive! You're a good trainer so I'll be interested to see what you come up with for the next dog.
Looks like Josie misses the contact in the second DW sequence. Ivie is certainly shortens her stride in preperation for the stop and is faster when she doesn't stop totally. Certainly is a time difference between running and a stopped contact.
Haha, the judges chase you!

I hate it when judges do that. Aubie doesn't like it either

LOL I had to laugh at the energetic judge she sure had to move to catch the up and down contact Looks like the dog had two handlers.

I learn so much from your videos! This one was awesome!

Awe, thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

still fast as rockets both girls =) another nice comparison both of them have enormous speed on the rest of the course

Very nice. I would rather have the make or break... more fun and a better high!

I doubt Cisco's DW is 1.23 seconds. :-)

I timed 3 or 4 of Cisco's dogwalks that I have from Hattiesburg that I randomly found on my laptop. :-P
I probably have some Siryn dogwalks taped, too...I'll get back to you on that :)

So are you going to teach Ivie running contacts?
SwarmLacrosse 3 years ago
Absolutely not. Ivie is 7 and has beautiful contacts. I will not mess with something that's not broken!
EmilySnider 3 years ago
7?! Wow, she's doing amazing especially for 7! How long do you plan to do agility with her? It seems like she could go until she's 10! =)
SwarmLacrosse 3 years ago
Well I'm hoping she goes until she's 100! ;-)

Partially the reason I can't wait to train the next pup...all these ideas fresh in my mind!! :)

Yes, she missed that one -- it was heading straight into a wall -- we've not trained that!! That's on the to-do list!! :o)
