  • Also, quit pointing at the camera.

  • I agree wit 'FrustratedBaboon'. Your instructions are piss poor. If you located studs before you drilled, or used anchor screws, then you need to incorporate that instead of suggesting we install the shelves securely, show people.

  • @MiLKS0PSTUDi0 they make a pretty nice kit for shelving if you are looking to do it in your garage... I have a vid of it on my channel.. You gotta be careful installing stuff like shelves onto walls... definitely want to do it correctly and make sure it is sturdy or someone could get hurt!

  • You want people to get hurt ? Follow this morons advice and have all the shelves fall off. You didn't use a stud locator nor you used any sheetrock locking screws !!! Thumbs up for unsafe video !!!

  • Thank you Threadbanger! I was looking for an EASY way to install shelves on brackets and your instructions are BY FAR the easiest! Install one bracket, place the shelf on the bracket, check for level, remove the shelf, install the second bracket and presto...genius!

  • If you're a poor college student like me, you can use old shoe boxes with the lid and one side cut out, and adhered to the wall (and some added support if you're going to be putting heavier stuff in them). You can paint them to look cooler or keep them as is. I think it's going to look awesome!

  • There is a more affordable shelving system that is constructed out of solid oak, fully adjustable and requires only a screw driver and level to install. Search 'Wooden You Shelving'

  • shouldnt you specify to find the studs?

  • Can you hide drugs in it?

  • @ 1:00 I would like to note that if you're going to hang shelves on drywall, you should either use a stud finder or use drywall anchors. This is Especially true if you're going to be putting something heavy on them (i.e. Books).

  • I am in love with megs house im so freaken jealous

  • You guys really want to remind people that if you are not hitting studs in the wall YOU MUST USE ANCHORS. You can just screw shelves into the wall all willy nilly and expect only the drywall to hold the screws.

  • @Dawgrum Thanks. That was the exact thought i had while watching. I know the videos need to be short but I was surprised there was no mention or annotation about studs and anchors.

I moved into an apartment that had a shelf setup like the video. Nice brackets and everything. It came down after two weeks. No anchors and no studs used. Luckily no one was under it at the time.

    STUDS and ANCHORS

Tres important to consider when putting up shelves.

  • great ideas !!!

  • Awesome!!

  • what if my walls are made from brick? what can i do then? i want to hang thing like posters and frames but i have no clue as to how to do it the right way without ruining the wall and paint, any suggestion?

    Thanks! XD

  • the dvd rack inside the old jukebox is an awesome idea.

  • Where can you find brackets?

  • @piemaker2810

in home renovation stores and various decoration stores

  • home depot maybe

  • nice, except the vista thing... i feel conned every time i watch that

  • I miss when this guy would contribute to the shows.

  • nice video

  • note... screwing into the stud makes ur shelf not fall down... and another one... a small one into bottom of shelf through bracket...

  • Meg you're videos are awesome.

I was wondering if you had any ideas on a cool decorative way to organize the wall area infront of a desk to be able to clear up desk space. thanks<333

  • Windows Vista SUX!

  • I agree. :/

  • its alright but it makes me consider a mac

  • please tell us where to buy good priced things for the decor it yourself not websites please!

  • AC Moore. they have good stuff you can use to

    make things.

    Hope I helped.

  • I liked this. Subscribed!

  • I like that idea of the old radio made into a book shelf. With the new digital TV conversion, I've heard about people taking their old box TV's and making them into fish tanks. Just thought it was kinda interesting and it's good knowing that's less material going to the land fills.

  • where would one find vintage contact paper??? want!

  • I don't mean to be a stickler... but don't you need to screw into a stud to make sure the shelf doesn't fall out?

  • That's exactly what I was going to ask, haha

  • shut up applepie1991 we all make mistakes

  • i love u meg

  • What would you guys recommend for walls of older buildings that are sensitive for adding holes into em? xD

  • when i saw this video i wanted to put a cool shelving unit up but my dad said i needed something called a stud finder...

  • 1:08 - stud finder (level)

  • the level isn't a stud finder. a level makes sure that your shelves are straight, so your stuff doesn't slide off. a stud finder finds the studs in the wall so you don't put your shelves into some soft jib which would fall apart with a big set of books on it. you don't need a stud finder if you can find it by tapping the wall - the place where the stud is will sound less hollow. DISCLAIMER - I'm no builder, and you should just get a stud finder!

  • Vista sucks.

  • The fabric of that remote holder was hideous! DX

  • your show has inspired me to finally give my room the makeover it deserves. I start tomorrow. I may even document it... it will be a challenge though. My room is a mess.

  • good luck on your room make-over!

  • Those bad things about Vista are true. Booo.

  • Quick DIY tip: If you don't have the money for real frosted windows, used some glad press n' seal :3

  • word. great idea!

  • boo vista ad boooo

  • then watch their show.

  • You wasn't rob and corinne back? Learn to spell before you type comments.

  • haha.

  • vista sucks, the end.

    ooo~lovely shelving ideas :D

  • My sister just moved out and now i get to move into her new and big room where can i get cheap wall art or graphics to fill the walls

  • If you check on their youtube profile you'll be able to find a whole show meg did about cheap and easy wall art! =)

  • Dear Threadheads, shouldn't you mention that wall studs or anchors are important to weight bearing shelves?

  • i totally thought the same thing, it could be really dangerous to overload a shelf that doesnt have the screws going into the studs!

    cool info otherwise, lol

  • I'm about to move back on campus for the school year, and I was wondering if you had any tips for a person's campus nest? We can't paint walls or put any permanent decorations on the STONE walls (no nailing, etc.) but we can stick stuff up there. Any ideas?

  • Nice shelves, Good luck on the move to W.

  • Love the shelves!

Could you make an episode of what to do with old magazines, I have tons.

  • have u seen the paper beads episode?

  • Get some paper mod podge and the ideas are endless! You can make paper beads (check out their profile for that episode) or roll them into tubes and make a kick ass frame. You can also cut out cool pictures, coat them in the glue and make a sweet curtain out of them. GL!

  • I prefer the vista ad to that cartoon one, it was really starting to get on my nerves.

  • i thought the remote control pockets (whatever it was called looked so tacky and ugly..

  • Than use a different fabric. It was really awesome of someone to take the time to make that and submit it to the show. You can use any fabric that you want, she did what she liked. More power to her!

    xo, Meg

  • XD My mom has been using a typeset drawer as a wall display since before y'all were born.

  • That's where I got the idea. From my Nana.:)

    xo, Meg

  • Oh boy! More ads please!!

  • ugh, windows vista Advert? wth?

  • what i'm wondering too..

  • lcooke and engelixe,

You could offer to fund the show from your stashes of cash, or you could deal with the short inconvenience for Meg and Threadbanger to pay the bills and keep providing you with quality work.

  • I always love what you have to say, VideoJay!

  • Dreamy co-host.

  • Just a friendly note: make sure you anchor your screws into a stud in the wall not just the drywall! =)

  • VISTA FTW!

  • That vintage contact paper looks like the counters in my home from the 50's! YIKES, IT'S BAAAAAACK!

  • oh, i agree with groomdoggi who said that this episode (and their actual work) lacked anchors and some extra knowledge about that..You need to know thickness and hardness of your walls, weight of the shelves and the stuff you intend to put on... and work from there. I'm afraid that I made the same mistake once and ruined an entire wall! The shelf came down (obviously) and as it did it left some pretty nasty holes in the wall and a mess on the floor.

  • Anchors & studs were elements we were pretty sure everyone knew all about. So we didn't delve to much into it. But maybe we should have. We only have so much time to give you all of these ideas and elements, so opted to omit that part. But thank you for reminding everyone how important that is. Always keepin' it safe, guys.

  • Meg is super lucky to have a guy who likes to do DIY. Awesome. itd be nice to watch nest and see you guys grow old together.

  • I am super-lucky to have this guy alright. He is THE BEST!!! You hear that WIll? I LOVE YOU!!!!

    xo, Meg

  • First of all, please tell me that 80's style fabric, used at the end, is not coming back into style!

Second, you really should've spent more time on how to screw in the shelves because different types of walls need different screws, and different types of anchors are needed depending on the weight the shelves will be holding.

Seriously, be careful around those shelves you demo-ed using just little screws and no anchors--then stacking those books on them! Yikes!

  • Obviously the guys you feature on the show have some decorating style however my guy does not. We just bought a house and he will have a film editing/office room. However he thinks posters without a frame and white walls are a-ok. Um so not. How do I get him to make this space something cool and decorative without forcing him to?

  • Try finding some examples online of rooms that are nicely painted and posters are framed. This may inspire him to see the light. And if you encourage him and offer to help, that help get around any laziness, if that is a problem. Good luck!

  • Good one. Okay, the last episode, the braiding one, I featured my friend Dave's place. He is an editor with a whole office area, but he framed his posters. He can have what he wants, but it makes it look a lot nicer. Just show him that saying how it reminded you of him or something. Take HIS ideas, and just spruce them up a bit. Like framed records, or a hung guitar. Can you send in pics?

Best of luck with your man!

    xo,Meg

  • What's with the swearing?

  • to mle011: How old are you? Can you handle the word "damn"? I mean c'mon we're all adults here, give or take a few.

  • It says on my profile I'm 19, and that's true. Of course I can handle the word "damn", I just hadn't heard it on Threadbangers before so it just surprised me. So calm down, there's no arguement here.

  • its so cool to see will in this episode

    y'all are awesome together

will he be in more episodes?

  • Yet another brilliant idea! Thanks Meg!

  • So those shelves will stay up with no anchors in the wall?

  • Oww i loved how your fiance did this one! you guys should colab. all the time!

  • Me too! It made this episode even better. He's so cute.

  • Great Ep guys! You're so my fvorite couple ever :P!

  • Thanks so much guys! My boo is a busy man, but I LOVE when he can DIY with me. Thanks for supporting him so much.

    Mad love, Meg

  • Will is hot! And you guys are funny together. Great shelf episode! You gave me so many ideas to spruce up my place. Thank you.

  • Haha, you guys are hilarious and adorable. Filled with such cool ideas!

  • Awesome fucking episode!

  • The antique-radio-turn-storage-space idea is really creative!

  • Yes, that piece is really unique and cool.

  • Isn't that rad? Will & I found that for under $30 at an antique shop while on a road trip. We barely fit it into the car, but it was totally worth the crowded drive home. The key is seeing the potential in killer pieces like that one.

    xo, Meg

  • I absolutely love it! I would have never even thought of using something like that but I'll definitely be on the look out from now on!

    Seriously inspiring show!!!

  • Totally agreed. I feel filled with ideas & inspiration every time I watch an episode!

  • A bubble level and a stud finder are also helpful for installing shelving.

  • Great episode! Answers so many questions and has a lot of cool ideas.

  • awesome!I really need shelves and now I'll be able to make the ^^ :D

  • sweet. i am definitely doing this instead of buying new shelves for my massive book collection!

  • your nest is you? i think you can think of a better sign off

  • your nest needs you

  • They actually say, "Your nest needs you".

  • oh haha it can still be better

  • i thoughtit was "yourness means you" huh i was way off

  • Awesome help! Thanks.

  • you forgot the stud finder part. It's not so sturdy if you just screw into the walls.

  • Thank you decor it yourself. I see this coming in very handy at my new university abode : ) x

  • Good luck in your new university pad! I hope this helps a bit. We will do a dorm episode at the end of this month, so stay tuned!

    xo, Meg

  • first!

thanks! this is a big help
