  • Israel giving away MORE to the Arabs?!

Anything Israel gives away or gives back will only be used as a

launching ground for terrorist attacks against them.

  • Actually, you have this almost 100% backwards my friend. Early traditional roots of religion (particularly Christianity) were very specific at the times of it's origins, but over time, mix of diverse cultures and typically a strong influence from a government standpoint, what used to be simplistic has sprouted in to many different doctrines, philosophies, and spectrums. It metaphorically compares easily to a message being passed through about 10,000 people. Time+human factors+religion=distortion

  • or evolution... religions evolve alongside their creators.

  • Read this guy's book. You might change your opinion on that.

  • black hebrew jews created or received mesaage from God. One God. this led to advancement all around. later white europeans adopted it and took off. lol.

  • I dont think we disagree on much really.

Let me put it as a question then.

Whats YOUR context for myth, & for a religion?

I agree, the bible was a science book for when people didnt know about weather patterns etc the search for out side agency. It created common culture & unity, & book 2 offered a better life for people with miserable lives who died at 29.

Theres no escaping it, religion is indeed the story and history of humanity as much as DNA.

  • In some cases religion and what you are brought up to believe is more important then your physical attributes.(I would not go so far as saying it is on oar with your DNA however) It is the nature vs. nurutre argument. And I define Mythology in relation to religion to be more like a legend which is easily told in differnt versions or can easily be relatable to differant audeinces. Religionis much more "set in stone." Althought even religions like Christianity slightly very from region to reigon.

  • (cont) and anybody could join it it was not simply that you were born in it or not 2. It was not simply sold as an insurance policy the christian god said choose me over all the others and it was not that you were two or three religions Christianity had much more of a certanty to it. It was not until the Romans (full circle) stoped prosecuting christians ( along with many others) and aliened with it that it truly started looking like the religion we know today.

  • Religious common ancestors I agree, it probably went in both directions.

But I wouldn't call them myths, I think they have to still be called religions as they were sincerely believed by those people.

It is I think the promise of a happy after life in heaven compared to Hades which is a bit of a lonely affair that Christianity owes its success.

  • As much as I hate saying this phrase we must agree to disagree, I think the foremost purpose of any religion is to explain the unexplained and for also to reach a common connection between people. And sadly while I do think it binds people within a culture together in a common ancestry it has to often had the oppisite effect on people who come from outside of ones own cultures.

I findreligion interesting nothing more, because as I have said previosly it isin a way a history of the world.

  • and the success of the jesus's story.

  • Religion clearly from a local mythology evolved then that evolved into Roman and Greek mythology then the main it was primarily spread to the East through Alexander the Great and ultimatly became hinduism (which is just like mythology in many way and which is also th oldest living religion) yada, yada, yada many religions such as mithraism and eygption religion and ultimatly gave rise to Christianity and christianity took root because 1. Anybody could join it and in a way it was an equalizer

  • Did I read you right? that Greek religion was spread by Alexander to India and gave birth to Hinduism?

Hinduism never came from the Greek religion.

Mithra was a parallel religion to Christianity its not part of it, though they have a common ancestors.

The oldest practising religion is the Australian Aborigines, who we see through archaeological art that is 30,000 years old, practice the same beliefs today.

  • I did not mean that Alexander the great himself spread (but he did settle in India and his nomadic people certainly did reach a receptive and young India) mythology to India in the form of hinduism (I was a little short I apolpgize for that) but, I think Hinduism defanatlyevoled from that type of polythiesm found in ealy mytholgy ( for instance 1)Hinduism like mythology believes the gods walk among them 2) Hinduism traditions very slightly from village to village just like in mythology

  • As for the Hinduism being the oldest MAJOR religion it most certainly is, while I do not doubt the there are still pockets full of people the still practice earlier riligions (probably a few hundred) they are very musc in the minority.

And also thank you for replying I always love a good debate and I think rilegion while an interesting topic is very, very overrated we (as in all of as the human race are one)

AndI sayit is interesting, because you can tell a history oftheworld fromreligion.

  • and the holy books of the 3 abrahamic religions follow the history of their respective peoples, accomodating for their needs and guidance in accordance with the unfolding of the events at the time.
