Check out the song Big Time 12 Inch. Will never understand why they never released that back in the day it would have made the Garden of Love album sell alot better...
"Give It To Me Baby" got to # 47 on the UK pop chart in 1981. In the early/mid 80s a lot of funk-ish music crossed from the R&B chart to the US / UK pop charts & vice-versa. David Bowie's "Let's Dance" got to # 14 on the US R&B chart in 1983. Melba Moore's "Love's Comin At Ya" reached #15 on the UK pop chart in 1982. A few more examples, the US R&B Chart: "Shock the Monkey", "Miss Me Blind" "Out of Touch."
You may find that it is worth the time to take a look and listen at the song lists that have been posted to Itunes Ping that meld together rhythmically & stylistically compatible early/mid 80s R&B/funk songs and early/mid 80s synth pop/new wave songs. Lots of music that was either forgotten or not ever learned of but was very enjoyable or would be very enjoyable if it was rediscovered or discovered for the 1st time by people that enjoy this type of music. People like you?
I have researched these music categories for the past 9 years
and I have rediscovered tunes I had forgotten about or I discovered
new tunes that totally deserved the time it took to discover them.
In Itunes Store or Itunes Ping if you use the search terms "electrofunk" (as a single word) or "80s funk" the search result shall produce several lists that have "electrofunk" or "80s funk" in the playlist name in the "Playlist" category at the low left corner of the search result.
These lists have songs that (1) you may have heard before and enjoyed but forgotten or (2) songsthat you may enjoy now but you have not heard before. These lists also include album cuts that were not released as singles and songs from lesser known yet solid groups/soloists such as Fatback, Kashif, Laid Back, D Train, Boys Don't Cry, and Dynasty.
There was an actual double-entendre blues song about "my big ten inch" (record of your favorite blues) - I think Aerosmith covered it -- hey, this is mild compared to the old stuff: "I fed my baby witha long-handled spoon", "I whipped my woman with a single tree", "I'm like a one-eyed cat peepin' in a seafood store", sweet jelly roll, etc - So that old Rick James 12-inch is right up there (& remember: "straight up, now tell me do you love me") -- [chortles, rolls eyes...] :)
Here he comes out of the room, and I looked at him. And I ain't bullshitting, man. I've seen like, like a orange, his aura whatever, I mean I've seen it! I mean it's orange.
Today is the 7th anniversary of the day Rick James passed. Rick James was the GREATEST musician of all time. He was a true musical genius. I always felt he was underrated and equally ahead of his time. From 1979-83 nobody made more hits or sold more records then Rick. His FUNK made you dance and his ballads brought you to tears. For all of ya'll that know what I'm talkin' about, throw it up!
R.I.P The "KING of FUNK", I am forever grateful for the time I spent
@ChampagneHec i beg to differ michael jackson is better than rick james now rick james was good but michael was just better he sold more hit than rick james and morealbums the reason that he sold the most from 1979 to 1983 is because michael came out with thriller in 1983 so he ended jamess streak just because michael was is and always will be the best. R.I.P. King of Pop
How good you were doesn't really matter from how much youve sold. It just means MJ's music appealed to a broader base. Although he's an adequate musician, but according to your logic, then Justin Bieber is a good musician, which most would disagree with...
When I am 70 years old and living in a nursing home, I plan on playing this at a Saturday night social and try to break dance to it, thereby giving everyone heart attacks...
During his autopsy it was discovered he was under the influence of alprazolam, diazepam, bupropion, citalopram, hydrocodone, digoxin, chlorpheniramine, methamphetamine AND cocaine.
We HAD SOME FUN ASS TIMES BACK THEN when men were & women were women & none of this sex change crap that is going on today women were foxy & sexy as you do'nt what hit you in your face and rick and teena marie were rocking the charts and our radio/boomboxes also known as ghetto blasters..What about those school picnic outings to parks hmmm turn you on does'nt it blasting away the jam's looking the young women when we were 12 to 14 those were some times back in the 70's sneakin to get some sex
@stew631 First of all,I'm a 25 y/o young woman. Second- I meant that Dave Chappelle re-introduced rick james to a younger fanbase. Everyone who was alive in the 70's and 80's knew who the fuck Rick James was,but my generation not so much. We might have heard of him,but we didn't really know his music. At least I didn't . Dave Chappelle introduced him to me and now I'm a fan for life. That's what I meant.
@PlanTonto hahaha are you kidding me? dave chappelle is an excellent comedian, and rick james was an excellent musician. dave chappelle introduced rick to a crowd he never would have been exposed to. neither made the other successful
@duker00lz Now why you gotta insult me? Your dick that small? Man, shit like this rediscovered all the time in movies etc...All music comes back around, my ni66a aint need no help from Dave...You got a bad temper, can't discuss nothing without insults, go on...
Brother Rick James was definetely the master of R&B funk classics.
