I hope she is doing better.... have Lupus & everyday is a struggle but I have never endured this kind of pain and uncomfort....I hope they find a diagnosis soon for her.
Only medical knowledge I have is experience. From what I see physically, she seems healthy in weight, colour, her eye colour suggests no liver issues. Taking a shot here. Viral arthritis maybe. OR I was in hospital with person who was like this lady, arms up like that, stiffness, and 'out of it' most of the time. Considered catatonia? One medication that might be considered is neurontin(gabapentin), but I'd get her off abilify. Not that it's bad, but it's not for someone who is like this.
my God, I suffer from chronic pain s.l.e. lupus and fibromyalgia. I thank God for you all, but this happens often and we cant tell them whats going on . im praying for her healing be blessed 66godsgirl
a friend of mine has the same spasmic attacks. but she never wants to talk about it. the only thing i know is that she had for many years glandular fever (pfeiffer). perhaps the deseases are related to each other.
I stand corrected - it does indeed look like Stiff Person Syndrome, or Stiff Man Syndrome (if they're absolutely, positively certain these aren't seizures).
I should mention that a normal EEG does not automatically rule out a seizure; EEGs can be unreliable, especially if the cause of the seizure is chronic or located deep within the brain. Also, one normal EEG in the midst of an attack does not rule out seizure. If the docs ruled out seizure disorders based on one normal EEG during an attack, I would fire them and find new doctors. (What do you call the guy who graduated last in his med school class? Doctor!)
Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, just a frequent flier patient with a long history of my own sometimes-misdiagnosed medical problems. Some possibilities to look into: tardive dystonia, which can be caused by some medications, migralepsy, a rare syndrome where migraines cause seizures, or, what I consider the most likely of my list, autoimmune epilepsy. Having 1 autoimmune disease makes getting another more likely, so I'd look into autoimmune causes first. This could be a type of seizure.
I'm not a doctor but I wish I could help you. Maybe you can search the web about Stiff man syndrom? If it's not that, at least, I think it may be neurological or some kind of malfunction with some neurotransmitters or receptors in the brain or in the muscles. Or a toxic accumulation of a metabolite or mineral in the muscles maybe due to a lack or malfunction of a major enzyme or something like that? I hope these suggestions will help you.
you have all the best wishes in the world from me, its hard to know what to say but i see you are desperate for answers so i have to share what my girlfriend has found, as she has suffered with fibromyalgia for 7 years and we have finally found something that affects it and eases the symptoms drastically, it must sound ludicrous, but we changed her diet to a raw diet and within 2 days the symptoms eased a lot. please email me if you want more info as there is so much raw diet testimony online
As her jaw & neck are not twisting, I don't think it is caused by psychotropic drugs or pesticidees. She is a good colour, not extremely thin and her muscles are not long rigid strings so I don't think she has a muscular dystrophy or atrophy. Her eye-whites are not yellow- so probably not liver disease or kidney failure. Her eyes do not look as though she is unconscious. I would be inclined to say this lack of responsiveness is a mental disorder, eg. catatonic schizophrenia.
if she takes any meds it can be side effects my mom has had the same thing... if ANY doctors purscribe her "Xanax, DONT TAKE IT! once your on it you have to STAY on and if you miss like a months worth you could have up to 5 seizures ain a day...its a hard time to go through but ill pray evertything will get better with her...God bless.
The sound makes me think tourettes, but if it's because she can't open her mouth that's merike's along with her blasphemspasm Most likely dystonia over all.
it looks like dystonia

This looks like Catatonia. Rigidity, mutism, negativity.

I saw your video when looking for the cause of my own spasms.
Have the docters checked her for THYROID and/or HYPOTHYROID/HYPERTHYROID diseases?? Those can cause very nasty cramps and spasms.
Also the kidneys can cause a lot of this kind of trouble!!
I think ( I have done a course to be a GPs assistent) you have to search in the metabolism.
I hope so that the doctors find the cause, AND the cure for her!
I pray for her that she may be well soon!!!
