  • lol this is probably how zombies start sry i'm sticking to real meat

  • Yes I would eat lab grown meat. Why wouldn't I? It would be healthier than the diseased stuff we buy from the grocery. Not to mention the hormones injected in these animals. Also let's not forget that the meat on your plate has come from an animal that's been tortured to death. Yes, I would eat lab grown meat.

  • People seem concerned about how this "meat" is made, but they generally show no real interest in how their meat is made on factory farms now. What we're already doing today is unnatural. This is just a more compassionate kind of unnatural.

  • i dont care if the meat is nantural or man made ,ill eat it nom nom nom

  • I would eat it.. Heathier, safer, humain, Eco friendly, new flavors, better for you( because you can add things that are good for you like vitamin D)

  • I don't know why you would be afraid to eat lab grown meat. You eat so many unnatural lab grown things now. I doubt that my generation will be as skidish.

  • Hmm...this reminds me of an episode of Better off Ted. LOL But still...end world hunger?

  • WOW......just WOW! Peta is pro GMO now? Awesome. They are offically the most evil organization ever. I firmly believe that Ingrid Newkirk is the antichrist

  • WOW......just WOW! Peta is pro GMO now? Awesome. They are offically the most evil organization ever. I firmly believe that Ingrid Newkirk is the antichrist

  • can i lab grow another jannifer anniston for my private stock... computer brain chip and so forth...?

  • no animals were hurt durin the making of this video

  • Franken meat? Biased a lot?

  • I think it is a great idea, and I hope it will be introduced soon!

  • Another great invention from Whites, I wonder if Negroids and Mexicans will still bite the hand that feeds them, especially in 50 years when they're ruined the USA and overpopulated with their cockroach-like breeding habits.

  • "If it isn't natural, it isn't right."

Not true. Human beings can make artificial meat, but that doesn't mean that's wrong. To step forward into a brave future we have to blast past that part of us that says that 'unnatural things are bad'. If we continue in this direction without the fear of the unnatural or unknown, we might just find a way to save more people, save more land from farming, stop large scale carbon emissions, and eliminate the diseases farming can generate.

  • @Apocol0id only reason you attack him because he was black.

  • @cloisknight I don't really know how to respond to this. I know you're just joking, but seriously. A dude is going to comment on or quote the last prominent quote from the video, it's a fact.

  • I think they're going to need just a little bit more than $1 million.

  • Oh fuck me... People want to eat meat, and theyre perfectly ok with eating the diseased shit that comes from the store freezer and Mc Donalds. However when someone comes up with a compromise allowing them to eat safer, cleaner meat and save resources while doing it, they start getting preachy about what's natural or not.

*pheh* Even if someone perfected the technology, these idiots wouldnt eat it. I say spend the money to develope a virus that sterilizes "stupid people" instead.

  • Why, yes, yes I would eat lab grown meat, Why do you ask?

  • for something thats pioneering it aint too bad. theres nothing toxic about it, if it contains the same chemicals, then its the equivelent of extremely well blended normal meat. its a texture issue.when they can mass produce grade A beef steaks which has to be EXTREMELY close the real thing, then sure, ill go vegetarian.but though we NOW have such a varied diet which localized people wouldnt get before modern shipping, you can have a very unnatural diet to compensate for meat which we usually need.

  • I'm not against eating it entirely, but I AM against consuming something that hasn't been tested, etc. So yeah, once it's made safe and secure, hell yeah we'll dig into that shit.

Hell, we could grow like a zerg building using this technology just for shits and giggles

  • @RealKengeki hybrotic ark ships are already planned for the expansion of terran life outside of the sol system ^_^

  • where there's a need there's a market, eventually this would displace real meat as a luxury for rich people and the rest of us, buy our tube of meat from your local Geno-butchery?

  • heck no I'm not eating that.

  • YES!! YES!! YESS!! save the animals man!!

  • Meat is worse than cars?.....nah

  • @geetar72 nope... you're wrong. Cattle production alone produces more greenhouse gas emmissions than cars and airplanes combined.

  • Stupid snooty news reporters. Just eat it!

  • They should make human meat! All the joys of cannibalism without the inconvenience of murder.

  • @CanadiaNecro1 Hahahahahaha ! XD ...

    You made me smile :D

  • PHFFF people care about how this is made, but not hotdogs??

  • Anyone with an IQ level below 100 should not be allowed to reproduce. Stupidity is hereditary!

  • And what would happen with the rest of the "real" cattle?

  • @mast3rm00se There would always be some demand for natural meat, no matter how popular In Vitro Meat got. They would be taken out of factory farms where they currently can not even turn around and placed back on real farms because there would be less demand. You would not have feces dripping from cow intestines onto the steaks as factory worker carve them up on the assembly line at great personal risk for abusive mega corporations which gamble with your health for their profits.

  • @mast3rm00se they wouldn't be bred for the purpose of slaughter and the population would decrease significantly to a level closer to normal for the species. They would still be required for milk and such; people wouldn't jsut forget about them and they'd go extinct.

  • I'd have to go with the one older guy, I'd have to at least try it. I'm all for new things. If it tastes good and is good for me, sure, I'd eat it. I don't see how it is any worse. In fact, I see it as being significantly better. In the lab you can control the cells to the type of meat you want and you don't have to waste animals to get it.

Also, since it is going to be "Lab-Meat" you know it's going to be shortened to "LEAT" at some point, and I'm all for consuming several pounds of LEAT. ^_^

  • cells have rights too

  • Sorry but I m old fashion I prefer what nature gives me

  • I'm a vegetarian since 5 yrs, I would absolutley eat this!

  • 2:23 - 2:29 "Closer to Earth is the best. If it isn't natural, it isn't right." go back to your cave luddite.Theres no genetic engineering,no toxic chemicals its like quorn

  • 2:23 - 2:29 "Closer to Earth is the best. If it isn't natural, it isn't right." (sigh) So just because it's natural, its immediately right, huh? Oh sure, it may bring pain and misery to our animal brethren, increase CO2 emissions, take up massive land area, use superfluous amounts of water, infect us with a plethora of viruses and bacteria, release massive quantities of feces and urine into the water, and so on, but at least the production of real meat is "natural", right? }:P

  • YES science, NO food

  • Dude, I LOVED the idea of lab-grown meat. I was having visions of a huge pile of delicious bacon I could grow on my coutertop with baking soda and vinegar. But then PETA ruined it by making it an issue of animal rights.

Damn it PETA, you guys ruin EVERYTHING!!!

  • i would eat lab grown meat if it taste good.

    its the more ethical

  • So would I. I would at least try it before dismissing it. (as long as it isn't really Soylent Green;-)

  • true

  • i would like to have heard exactly how they explained it to the interviewees. did they say "hey would you guys eat engineered meat?" see what jimbogf said 2 months ago, he is right. and it would be healthier because they have genetic and environmental control ancould grow it without as much fat, no disease, etc.

  • i love how all of the people are like

"oh my! i would have to know how it was made."

    but its like,

dude. do you even know what happens to actual animals before they are slaughtered!? its repulsive.

ugh, i haven't eaten red meat or poultry since february 25th and i'm slowly transitioning into a kosher vegetarian. i love animals too much to eat them and have them hurt just so i can get some milk or eggs. :P

  • chicken is nasty, make a in-vitro beef patty for a burger, that looks good

  • no thank you.

  • Meh im a Vegetarian

The thought of eating any kind of meat grosses me out

    So i wouldn't oppose frankenmeat

    But i wouldn't eat it

  • i wouldn't ever eat it... it would still give you health problems wouldn't it? idk i'd rather just continue not to eat meat haha much easier =] i love animals x]

  • Acutally no this meat thats grown in a lab will actually have healthy nutrients added to it like omega 3 and they will be able to alter its fat content to make it as healthy as salmon. In vitro meat is the way to go!!!!

  • fuck that. i'm gonna continue to eat real meat from dead animals just out of spite of the animal rights douche bags.

  • your not cool

  • i think i'm cool.

  • You should watch the video on here called meet your meat so search it and watch cause you obviously are an ignorant asshole. And by the way this lab grown meat will be much healthier to eat as well douche bag.

  • Ok... apparently you missed the point of my original post. I don't care if it is healthier, cheaper, more humane, etc... Attributes which this perverse intention will almost certainly fail to deliver on. I just want to spite you animal rights nutjobs. That's why I will continue to eat only meat from dead animals. Suck it bitch.

  • At first people will be afraid to try it, however it will eventually catch on and become the norm.

In the future, people will be grossed out with the idea of eating meat that came from a living animal, guarantee it.

  • what if its cells from a dog would we be eating dogs beef lol

  • but that would be ok, if dog tasted really good, because no dogs would have to die.

  • ...BLEH. I'm glad I don't eat meat in the first place.

  • yuck

  • I can't wait to try a big piece of this juicy mouth-watering labmeat!! Apparently they will be able to create a chicken breast a metre long, or a chicken breast the size of a turkey for an easy-carve christmas roast, I think it's wonderful and I can't wait for this meat!!

  • you grow the meat product form a single cell of an animal right? just extract some cells with a needle or somethign and the animal is still alive after the things grown?

this means we can eat any animal on the planet even endangered ones :D

  • Great idea. But PeTA still sucks donkey balls.

  • Everyone who thinks this will become a reality anytime soon is a retard. Either that or an artificial chicken-sized meat platter will cost somewhere in the thousands.

  • Oooh Yummy let's eat cancer !

  • Quickk :P! Go peta(A)

  • people can invent electric cars and clean up after the animals--what will happen to the real animals?

  • people can use them for milk and eggs, and not eating them...pigs are good pets actually (that's what I've heard)

  • people have certain teeth designed for ripping meat, people have periphial vison to hunt at night, people instinctively crave chicken(educated guess).nuff said

  • we don't need to eat meat=TRUTH

we don't have to torture and kill animals=Truth

all the people in this vid who deny to try it=ignorant cowards

    humans crave meat=truth

however, do you really base your morals on instinct?

  • I am vegan, but i think there's so much tasty vegetarian food, i don't need meat.

But i think that for the bilions of meat-eaters freaks is a good idea if is the very same product but without animals involved.

  • Well, meat is a part of a healthy diet. So growing meat in a lab would be a great plus for vegans who don't eat meat because it comes from killing animals. And people are just scared of big changes. People will get used to this idea over time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's actually a step we have to take.

  • honestly, those people are cowards...they fail to see how good of an idea it is...i particularly can't wait to eat my first meal of non murder meat in 2012,

  • I'd soooo eat it!!! Vegetarians ROCK! (Me)

  • Oh great, more nutjob animal fanaticism! PETA is ridiculous! Do your research and see all the bullshit this group really stands for!

  • Yur stupid why dont you watch the video called meet your meat here on youtube check it out it will show you real footage of the animals being tortured so watch it. Not to mention this lab grown meat will be healthier with omega 3 added to it so fuck yourself.

  • I've seen Meet Your Meat, they played it on the walls of my high school cafeteria. Nice huh? I'm not saying that there is no room for improvement in the methods used when animals are slaughtered for meat, but I will not eat something grown in a lab. If you want to eat it, that is fine. But research PETA, they are not everything they say they are...it's pretty well known.

  • this just seems unnecessary, i mean it makes sense in a few ways, but this just takes away so many sentimental values one may have for food. Im praying with family on christmas or something, do i thank god for this food, or a scientist. Animals don't always go through agonizing pain, they are often sedated to a point of no feeling. It's true that people do kill animals horribly in the whole food process organizations, but not all. And those who do should rot for doing that shit. word.

  • Dude i guarentee none of the animals are sedated. Do you know how expensive that would be to sedate the animals before they are killed? It would cost too much none of these animals are sedated you idiot!!!!! Here watch this video called meet your meat here on youtube so you can get an idea of the torture these animals go through. And this lab grown meat will be healthier to eat as well.

  • To tell the truth, i really don't care about my meat being healthy. I just want to eat the animals god gave us to nourish ourselves. About the torture, thats the error of butchers and what not. Hell, you want animals not to be tortured, i'll just do my own hunting and live that way!

  • @SVBarnard I would eat lab grown meat with zero problem.

  • @SVBarnard I appreciate your take on the way we raise/butcher our meat. The way animals are raised for food is obscene and should be illegal, not to mention all the health concerns related to growth hormones etc... and I am just as sure that nothing can or will go wrong with a for profit company or governmental lab grown flesh to eat O.o YOINK! Take a big bite out of the vegan reality sandwich...lol :)

  • @SVBarnard you are an idiot. that is all im going to say

  • Why the fuck would I kill something to eat it if I can eat it without killing anything? I'm not a vegetarian, but I get the feeling that mass producing animals in order to slaughter them is a bit off ...

  • What percentage of the foods in your local grocery store already owe their existence to modern science? Who can read a modern ingredient list and actually understand it? Why are people so invested in the suffering of other beings?

    Bring on the Soilent Green.

  • PETA is fucking hypocritical.Fuck those fucking animal killing bastards.

  • This is the future and I can't wait to try it.

  • @thedarkocean ya you eat this crap and go eat your McDonald and drink your coke and chew your sugerless gum

  • Hmmm fake turkey meat....sounds like something that could give you cancer. Hey, why not? Let's grow a bunch of bacteria in a pteri dish and stick it in our mouths to see if it tastes the same as turkey.

    What a retarded idea.

  • scientists would always make sure the clones are perfect it's not perfect now so I don't recommend eating but 5 years from now the technology will make the food safe and we could end world hunger

  • lol, talk about a video which is manipulated. Notice how the hosts (the tv station) attitude towards this issue is and then notice how they handpicked 80% againsts and a couple of more or less neutral people in this..

If you could eat a chicken filet and it tasted 100% as the real thing, in other words YOU COULDN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE. The only difference would be that this piece of meat wasn't the product of an animal which has been born into a life of suffering and cruelty.. ?!?!

    Idiots..

  • Check out this video called: Have Mercy on The Animals

  • Quorn

  • just go vegan

  • Unless you want to eat meat.

  • which is what real people do

  • What about all these medicines produced by bacteria in fermenters? Noone seems to mind being treated by them (eg. insulin injections), but they wouldn't want to eat meat produced that is safer than the meat they currently eat? I don't know how people are disgusted by the idea of artificially reproduced animal cells, yet aren't disgusted by the idea of eating animals?

This report was very poorly produced, especially the extreme bias by the presenters, and bias of the report... "Frankenmeat"

  • Once this tech becomes fully mature (whenever that is) then this question will really only be a psychological one, since otherwise you probably wouldn't be able to distinguish between 'frankenmeat' and the real thing.

  • I'd try it. It seems like the way of the future. No suffering.

  • pussy

  • thanks puss!

  • how bout you get down on all fours and suck on this juicy strap on. You'd probably want me to fuck you with it too. Tear your ass apart.

  • why dont you suck on the strap on to get some rock road out of it. c'mon. just get down on all 4's.

  • Does the meat poop while it's growing? That's the real question. hehe

  • I love animals,they taste sooo good.

If God don`t want you to eat meat why did he made made animals of it.

  • Why do you assume there is a God? Scientists have found no evidence for the "God Theory". Good line though.

  • "If God don`t want you to eat meat why did he made animals of it"

    It`s a joke!

I am A Atheist from just north of Dawkins.

Only my farther was baptised.Me and my sisters my mother and my grandparents to my mothers side wasn't(isn't).

And we are doing fine.Thank you.

  • Good to know.

  • My family is vegan and we cook textured vegetable protien frequently into our meals - It's almost indistinquishable from animal "meat". Consuming flesh will not be sustainable into the future.... it isn't good for health, terrible on the environment and awful for the animals. Vat meat is certainly a viable option.... till then eating a veg diet is a healthy and compassionate alternative.

  • i would eat it!!! no guilt!!!!

  • This would be a mostly positive development - although it would have the effect of further industrializing (and centralizing) our food chain and divorcing us even further from nature and the land.

  • They shun lab meat but I bet you they eat food that was genetically modified. Obviously these people don't know where their meat comes from if they think it's "safe" to eat.

  • "Frankenmeat?" Way to bias the poll, right out of the gates. And WTF is with PETA, offering that half-arsed $1Mil award? That'd probably cover a fraction of R&D, marketing and distribution costs. Media whores.

Genetically altered vat meat COULD be more healthy, though. They could be enriched, or altered to contain non-native nutrients like how they added omega 3 fatty acids to pork.

Also, if it were less expensive, that'd be a pretty compelling argument in this economy.

  • This video shows the sad brainwashed people that the vegan movement is up against. They talk about how natural and healthy their meat is and how "something just doesn't sound right" about this alternative when something is really wrong with what they consider normal.

That said, I don't think vat meat is the answer either. Won't it still contain the cholestrol and other problems that vegans point out as reasons for not eating meat in the first place? It would murk up the debate even more.

  • no it wouldn't cholestrol cause we have the DNA we can change it too whatever we want hell we could make it have no cholestrol if we wanted

  • This is a way to produce meat without having to kill living, breathing animals that experience real pain.

Why do you call it Frankenmeat? The title itself is almost biased.

  • I would probably eat it.

  • fuck that! i was raised on meat! fucking communists!

  • Scary. We already eat cloned veggies.

  • This is very interesting. I might eat it.

  • mmm frankenmeat
