I hardly ever use flash in situations like in this video. I use fast prime lenses with wide aperture and since my camera has (many slr camera has this function) "Active D-Lighting System" those dark shadows aren't too much of an issue for me. Plus it's easy to correct if you have a basic PS software.
Since i discovered the use of flash in daylight to fill in i have got more good shots with the skies and the object perfect.. usually this was either the object or the skye
How is 1.4 going to help? You'd take narrower depth of field shots, faster, with no details in the shadows...doesn't really address fill flash issues.
i dont like the unatural look of the flash on my subjects. It shoots a cast of unatural light on the subjects he should have it where the subjects where standing in light then used his flash to fill in,but the fill in would have casted a brownish glaze on them making them look wonderful.
i think you should read up more. A flash unit could help you in so many ways that wide open primes just couldnt. Just that you have to learn to control the lighting. Requires more skill.
hmmm... Using fill in flash not just fill the shadow around ancient's people face. Must be think about your entire photo too.. Look... Your flash power is to harsh. Not natural... Try to using -1 flash compensation if the light is not to bright... Or may be -1 2/3.
the second i saw he said fill-in vs balanced lighting, i knew it was gunna be bad. what he did was no more than a little old lady with a p&s could do with its integrated flash !

It looks like a point-and-shoot camera took it. Doesn't look different or special. Looks like your typical shot from a point-and-shoot
