  • Yea 2 the extreme. If the villian has an overbite it be protruding below his chin

  • "there's no way you can replicate reality, nor would you want to." Jim Lee clarifies the common misconception the layman have about drawing. Drawing is about a the artist's imagination of the world is or could be. Drawing can not be replaced by camera! The camera is an idiot, it takes in every thing it sees. The good artist does not replicate reality 100%

  • any comic book fan who saw this for the first time lol'd when he said "he's starting to look like someone" right away

  • If that was anyone else interviewing Jim it would be annoying, but Stan's smile is so inviting, you just go with it.

  • from his vague guidelines... its practically freehand in pen... wtf

  • @iheartpopculture2 It took him his entire life until then in the video to draw that picture. Because everything else in his past is practice.

  • the best!!!

  • 1 word to describe him DEDİCATİON

  • Gosh, I really hope he is still in the biz when I graduate Highschool, Cause I really wanna go to a con and meet Jim, he is by far my favorite artist and Idol, I really gotta meet him.

  • @comicbookprodigy995 He is still in the biz, still drawing, and now editor in chief of DC and merged it with his wildstorm characters.

  • jeez, it takes him a couple seconds to draw the perfect hand and it takes me about 50 mins to draw something that looks...almost...like a hand. i wish i could draw like Jim Lee. I especially love his art work in Hush.

  • jim lee has an urban personality .funny as hell give him a bubble head crazy and make him look more hipper

  • jim lee is funny with out trying to be

  • that other guy will never shut up, he keeps on interrupting Jim lee. its theeeeeeeee best drawing, but a beard!!!!??? wtf

  • XD I love both jim and stan, but as far as "putting up with" stan goes, he's stan the muther fucking man lee... I think deserves to be put up with :P

  • superman + stubble = HAWT BAD-A**

darn you jim lee and your mad-awesome drawing skillzzz >w<9

  • TWO WORDS... joe MAD!

  • Godamn he makes everything beautiful, I wanna draw now

  • 90s man it seems like yesterday - that is like 20 years ago.my God makes me feel old

  • Well, Stan Lee is a legend, clear fact! however, I always had this idea,.. that one of the main characteristics of his succes and intelligence of course, was the fact that he also had a gifted business mind... Jim Lee is still writing his ''story''... he is talented, genius, his work is unique! He is a true artist! I really can't compare those guys... Both Lee's are greats!

  • @EoVulnero Lee's work is not unique. The Buscema brothers remain unmatched as artists, but Jim Lee comes close. Stan Lieberman a.k.a. Stan Lee said in his own words he is not good at business. Stan is a great communicator and a creative story teller. Neal Adam's and Jim Lee's Batman pencilings are probably the best DC has ever had.

  • Jim is a really skilled guy. just looking at him in his younger days just bursting with energy is amazing.

  • MAD SKiiLS.

  • A true master at work!

  • OMG HES A GOD :O

  • @monkeyXmonkey Are you kidding, there is a guy in Texas that pencils so accurately that his complete drawings look like black and white photographs. He draws cowboy or ranching themes.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s

why do people always have to try and top som1 o.o...

I like Jim Lee then automatically som1 has to go and say OMG THIS GUYS SOO MUCH BETTER!

but id like to see this guy ur talking about? is there a link or somthing to his pictures?

  • @monkeyXmonkey The guy is a cowboy named Brian Asher of Texas who pencils photo realistic drawings of cowboy life by tediously making very small strokes with his art pencils.

  • Jim Lee should draw a Pantera comic book...

  • thank you for the upload =)

    very inspiring.. and yea

stan lee a little bit annoying LOL but still love him

  • The thing is. Stan Lee comes from a different time where the humor he is trying to bring to this vid was actually kinda funny. but nowadays its more obnoxious and rude. I do congratulate Jim on dealing with it like he did

  • @XxArkhamxAsylumxX oh come on. stan's always been a good natured ball buster. i wouldn't call it rude or obnoxious at all.

  • @XxArkhamxAsylumxX No it's people without any humor that doesn't appreciate it. My friends and I talk crap to each other all the time. Everyone I know does that. I even do it to girls I just meet and they've told me it's actually a turn on that I can joke and take joke in such a crude way.

  • goodness sakes stan just doesnt stop talking. lol im impressed jim can draw under those circumstances.

  • I can just hear Marvel Lawyers in the back round...."oh it looks to much like super man!!! change it change it!!!!!!!!!!!!" hahaha

  • Atta boy

  • what kind of paper is he using and is it the type to use for making a manga comic??

  • Looks so easy, but I know its not.....

  • jim really shows a good artist draws with his brain not with his hand

  • Man i came back ad saw this again and now wish this was in HD

  • I love Jim Lee's Drawing... ^_^

  • its hard to say but stan lee can be such a dick

  • @stewma234 i think thast his humor is just really messed up in the head

  • awesome

  • he is awsome jim lee you rock

  • i love the way he draws i wanna draw like that

  • is he using sharpie?

  • He's more like the wise old man, he's not annoying, just a guy who likes to suggest stuff.

  • lol! he is kind of aggrivating

  • wish it was still the 90's

  • yeah.... ponytails

  • It's amazing how fast and accurate he can draw

  • @solidysnake1 I saw an artist at a shopping mall draw detailed portraits of people within 2 minutes. Jim Lee's penciling of the tricep muscle should be extended as the arm bends at the elbow. Jim Lee is a very good artist and I admire his Batman pencilings. In my opinion, the Buscema brothers are probably the best artists Marvel has ever had.

  • That's not right. No one should be that good

  • @mrbrad420 i know right

  • the most of the people that comments here likes to draw

  • the stuff this man can draw in an hour is otherworldly

  • the only thing i don't like about Jim Lee is the fact he makes me REALLY jealous.

  • HOW DOES HE DO THIS?

  • jim lee is the davinci of comix, hail stan lee!

  • copy rights

  • Jim is the best comics artist of all time, easily

  • Definatly agree. A lot of people go with the old great liek Kirby, and they have every right to, but the level of detail and real understanding of movement and 'telling a story' in the artwork. I think Jim Lee is un-mached. Definatly someone I look to for my own art.

  • But Lee learned from Kirby. Any artist who says they did not learn from Kirby is lying. It's like an Anime or Manga artists saying they never learnt anything from Osamu Tezuka.

Every artist learned from Kirby, and if they do not know who Kirby is, chances are they learnt from an artist who learnt from Kirby, or and artist who learned from an artist who learned from Kirby. Etc.

  • Kirby was one of the greats no doubt, but to say everyone who puts a pencil to paper was influenced by Kirby in some way is a bit of a stretch. It's more apparent in someone's art like Bruce Timm's, I'm not saying Jim wasn't inspired by Kirby. But I just think Jim's style is seperate from Kirby's to more of a degree then someone like Bruce Timm.

  • His style may be different, but then you are missing his layout, composition, depiction of action etc, and these are all Kirby. John Buscema looks radically different to Kirby, but learnt a great deal from him. Oft times Kirby pages would be put in front of pencillers, and they would be told "Learn from this".

Lee learnt a great deal from artists like Kirby, as well as artists who learnt from Kirby. Every comic book artist learnt from Kirby.

  • We may as well be playing "Seven degrees of Kevin Bacon", here. But of course you're welcome to your opinion.

  • Hey Kirby ain't called "The King" for nothing.

  • He learned a HUGE amount from George Bridgemen though.

  • Bridgeman is invaluable.

  • Him and Hogarth did so much for illustration, it's amazing.

  • Don't forget Jack Hamm, or Andy Loomis. These two are fonts of knowledge which are always incredible tomes to look to for knowledge.

  • I didn't learn from Kirby.

    Maybe I should have had?

  • Like a poster further down said, like six degrees of Kevin Bacon, you learned from a person, who learned from a person, who learned from a person etc who learned from Kirby.

  • your stupid ad kirby is a stupid pink ball

  • @serzh123aaa

At leat I make sense. Geez, dude, if you can't make sense, type it in Word or whatever, and do a spell check.

  • What I said was sarcasmic joke...

  • @serzh123aaa

    'sigh'...Sarcastic

  • It's like the things I would take 3 hours to draw, and still wouldnt look that great, he draws in 3 seconds and are awesome..

    No fair!

  • i love him so much,HE IS THE BEST

  • he didn't need a beard, his gf was his beard!

  • shit, he's good!

  • Stan is pretty funny. He must not have written the dialogue for that drawing teaching video he was in. Because the things he said that were supposed to be funny were not.

  • man, Jim Lee makes drawing superheroes so easy! It's Unreal.

  • This is really cool.

  • because we're in the 90s .. give him a pony tail. haha.

  • I LOVE JIM LEE...... no homo

  • still a homo

  • can you give him a beard?

  • lol

  • nd ur amazing

  • i hope that was a joke....jim lee's beyond good....he's fucking AMAZING!!!!

  • @ibetthisishardtoread Jim Lee is a very good artist. However he is no Frank Frazetta or Boris Vajello, now these artists are truly AMAZING!!

  • are you serious????!?!?!?? he is a fuckin legend. how can he NOT be good? its not just opinion. its a fact. he is good. he is amazin artist. hes a hell of a lot better than you. hes so good i know he is and i dont even know you. he rocks dude!!!!

  • if u listen he says he wont go in much detail during the video

    hes just going through layout

  • fuck outta here...

  • he is the best!!!

  • He's amazing, he just makes it up as he goes.

  • Man, stan lee can be an asshole.

  • I agree. Listen to him: "can you do me a favor? can you give him a beard, so he doesn't look like anyone we may be familiar with?" and at 7:20, "you're not going to do that, not with a million people watching..."

Shut the fuck up Stan Lee.

  • Think of it... Stan Lee is with Marvel. Superman is from DC, even though Jim Lee has worked with both...

  • he is giving him complements like the whole time though....

  • lol

  • This is unbelievable. The guy just takes a mechanical pencil and just expansively draws out his canvas like it was nothing at all. How could he possibly get this good at doing something like this?! I could never do this in all the days I've drawn stuff on paper. This guy is like Mozart drawing on paper.

  • lol "all the work as been done", and in only 30 seconds.

  • is the dude talking some other language cause it looks weird when he talks.

  • the audio is just out of synch with the video frame. They speak englsih.

  • its the 90's dude...imean the 09's sorry

  • the vid was posted in 06 lol. maybe its the 00's

  • at 7:28 he says "because were in the 90's"

  • look at the clothes too, go casual fridays!

  • WOW!! this is old, but awesome

  • i use to have this vhs. I loved it. todd mcfarlane is on a couple of them. This is before they became image comics.

  • man two greats in one spot

  • I think Stan Lee is hilarious!

  • Jim Lee rockin' a Malcolm X hat. SWEEET!

  • I know, I was taught to draw a wire frame first as well, when you're jim lee you can skip several steps, it's cool but not a good way to learn to draw.

  • stan lee is... annoying in this interview

  • ok so ive always been told to start with a stick figure and then pipe, and then work detail

i heard all the pros start that way

this guy just starts at step 3 and is just quick! unreal...

  • thats what i do, its so easy that way! i cant draw any other way! D8 its hard to draw stick pipe thingies

  • Love Stan but he needs to shut the f**k up and let Jim work!! >:]

  • wow

  • He can do Kirby-dots like lightning

  • jim lee has BALLS!

  • NOt dick hes very nice guy

  • he has a shitload of money....what does he care if he's a dick or not.

  • stan lee is a dick

  • i dont like to say this but he is kinda anoying in that

  • What would you say, if WE called you a dick?

    You're just jaloux -.-

  • u hurt me there.NOT.

he is a dick, the guy is trying to draw and hes moaning, he hhas a big head

  • Lol.. You have a problem.. A very big problem

  • why?

  • Dude, he's Stan Lee. He has permission to be a dick.

  • no he dsnt

  • yes he ds. He brought is Spiderman, I think that's permission enough. He's got an old goober sense of humour, he really means well. You should consider the context before you judge someone like that :D

  • well if u watch the other parts ull see how horrible he is to jim, and its ignorant to think tht cos he braught in spderman or he has loads of money tht he cn do anything he wants

  • Why is that ignorant?

  • it dsnt matter ppl have thhr own opinion

  • i used to watch this when i was in highschool... the malcom X hat is a dead giveaway - 90's all the way baby - COMICS and HIPHOP music were at their peak!!!!

  • do your grankids know you're using their computer?

  • yea seriously, i hear it's bingo night at the old folks home

  • jim vieni alla scuola del fumetto!!!!

  • He's the fucking master.

  • two of the nicest and most talented guys in the business in one room. Fantastic, and Jim Lee blows me away lol

  • COMICS ROCKS

  • I REMEMBER SEEING THIS IN SCHOOL

  • the 90's ruled! Lol it really did

  • that he's too...super??? lol just kidding

  • i love jim lee

  • He is incredible! Hey check out my video were i draw loads of realistic characters!

  • Stand Lee Vs Jim Lee: Clash of The 40 year old virgins

  • lol jim lee has a daughter, not adopted.....

  • I don't want to be mean or any of the sort, but Stan Lee seems to be a bit controlling. Sure, he seems fun to be with, but as an artist, if I was working for Marvel, I wouldn't want the Head Honcho telling me exactly what to do like that. I'd like some freedom in my drawings. I don't know, he just seems to disagree with me a little.

  • i have the distinct feeling that this guy doesnt like disagreeing with stan lee.

  • lol he has to irregardless to what he may think, stan lee gives him his paychecks......

  • sorry but that really didn't make any sense, irregardless isn't a word, especially in the way you used it

  • in shorter terms, stan is the boss of marvel therefore he gives jim lee's paychecks.

  • hell, i disagree with my boss all the time.

i think stan beats him lol.

  • well its kinda different when thinking of normal bosses, but stan lee?the godfather of marvel, creator of the most well known superheroes on the planet?i don't think anyone would argue you against him especially if you work for him, it would be sucidal to anyones career as an artist.

  • i get the feeling this goes beyond just ruining his career. i believe stan has backhanded this guy a few times (hilariously).

    whatever.

  • man i see al these great comments, and im thinking im pretty dam good myself.could bust out that drawing in no time.exept hes gettn paid!lol...

  • Jim Lee's drawing prowess is as natural as breathing!

  • Do you really draw with your 'elbow'? I mean those sweeping motions are not from your wrist? How can you draw very well if your hand is too loose? @_@

  • no sketch with your elbow, detail with your wrist.

  • Oh, ok. Thanks. :)

  • Stan Lee is a great man; there's a kind of old-fashioned way about him that adds to his charm. He's inspired so many with his work.

  • i wanna buy that drawing!

  • He's sooo amazing!

    Thanks for the upload!

  • To all the jealous fucktards talking crap about Jim Lee. Let see you draw ya dicks. Post it somewhere and let see how good you are. If you can't pull off art work as good as Jim's then shut your lame ass mouths and let other people enjoy the video with out sifting through your bullshit comments.
