  • wow, his voice is not deep at all, so cute! and to the gay bashers, no he isnt gay!

  • The person interviewing just loves to hear his own voice. Saw him do a RUSH interview and each of his questions were a minute long. Terrible interviewer

  • The best there is. Thank you SP. Humility, greatness, realness... The best.

  • It was played on Scrubs also

  • What Kind 'a Porsche ? Neal Schon drive a Ferrari hehehehe

  • dose Steve perry drive a Porsche ?

  • @frankiev1231 Yes! And a old car that has been restored!

  • @dp1791 Are you crazy???? Vanity was definitely NOT his failing-it was Neal Schons jealousy of him. Neal thought without Steve, he might actually get some attention from female fans. I am sure he still does not "get the girls." Steves' fans are loyal to the end.

  • @steveperryluver Neil got that cheap aging attention-whore "Salahi" chick who crashed the White House with her hubby who she later left for Schon.

  • @SWLinPHX neal needs to go do something to himself that i cant say

  • He was awesome and Journey was great, but it's all a bit pathetic now. You all & SP himself are sketchy on the facts. Here he can't even place the song to the right album (DSB was Escape, not Frontiers). Secondly he says they wrote it from the hotel near Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, which would suit me fine as that's where I saw them but elsewhere on youtube he says they wrote it in SanFran. Well, which is it SP? You had valid health issues but vanity was your failing.

  • @dp1791: He didn't say it was written in the hotel near Joe Louis arena. He said that when he was writing it (presumably in San Fran) he remembered that moment when he looked out the hotel room in Detroit and saw the streetlights reflecting off the pavement.

  • Love you Steve! Could listen to you talk and Sing over and over again. I seen You with Journey may 6, 1981, I fell in love with you, your voice and your Tux!! We love you in Canada! I Miss You.

  • STEVE PERRY IS AN ICON TO ROCK MUSIC THERE WILL NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER BE ANOTHER STEVE PERRY ROCK ON STEVEN

  • steve perry an icon to the rock world

  • Could listen to this over & over again...

  • I first saw Journey on what was Gregg Rollie. It still sticks out over the few thousand concerts I have seen in my life. In a world before auto tune, this bands vocals where amazing. Steve was a guy you could not take your eyes off of. His range and pitch were the best I have ever seen.

  • Steve's insight there at the end about Neil's coming in with a guitar riff that does represent that train station train leaving on that Journey is pretty darn marvelous! Thats what a musician is all about, that story telling with music, wonderful interview.

If Steve's reading, thank you for all your interviews and loving your work so much!

  • he is the BEST. gotta love him.............

  • Steve Perry... best American vocalist. Bar none.

  • @kutchieMik except that i've heard him say that in every single interview there is of him on youtube. it becomes less and less sincere the more times i hear it. still love him bunches but he needs to get a new schtick.

  • No Steve Perry, No Real Journey....

  • @optionzqueen Such a void without STEVE..

  • Journey is not truly Journey without Mr. Perry! I wish Journey would have looked at history. Very successful bands that break up, then get back together, but with a different singer/songwriter, it just doesn't work as well.

  • STEVE PERRY IS THE BEST VOCALISTS OF ALLLLLLLL TIMES!!!!!!!!! ROLLING STONES GOT IT WRONG HE IS NOT ONE OF THE TOP 100 SINGERS OF ALL TIMES HE IS THE #1!!!!!! I LOVE YOU STEVE - SHERRY C

  • good man

  • Great interview, thanks so much for posting perryswoman. Love hearing anything with Steve Perry, he sounds such a lovely guy, and i really hope hes happy and enjoying life.Would love to hear him sing again.

  • The best voice ever!

  • *****

  • Perry sounds so Happy these days

he appears much more comfortable than he did early in his career

    with the media

  • Damn, I wish he'd come back to Journey....or should In say, I wish Journey would take him back.

  • Fascinating interview, and kudos to the interviewer who asked very intelligent questions and managed to draw from Mr. Perry some very enlightening responses.

  • Steve Perry is the very best! I wish he'd get some treatment for the money allergy he seems to have, because if he re-joined Journey, they would be unstoppable and would be swimming in unthinkable amounts of cash! :)

  • Steve needs to stop being a DIVA and get back with the band! Otherwise soon they'll be in the grave.

  • @Mach1club When a bridge is burned it is very hard to cross again!

  • It is the Joe Louis Arena. The hotel is part of the Ren Cen or Renaissance Center.Part of it opened up in 1977. The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, is the tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere. Thats where you stayed Steve lol. The streetlights reflect off the Detroit riverfront ...thats why you dont see them up that high ..

Its now owned by GM as their world HQ offices. Beautiful area...

  • @sunkat2 It's nothing at all like The Eagles "getting back together". I say he'll never rejoin Journey with confidence because I've had long chats with 2 people in L.A. who know him: he doesn't even talk about Journey. I think it's very sad, but some wounds can't be healed. I still hope he'll put out another album, he has to know how badly his fans want it!

  • TRUE GOLDEN LEGEND. It's mainly because of him that i started singing rock songs, and luckily i have achieved to sing like him. But as many places in the world, singers are taken for granted.

  • Why won't he tour with Journey? If he's worried about his image he should humble himself and look at what Ann Wilson has done!

  • @MaterSammichMan Steve Perry will never tour again, with anyone! Why not? He doesn't have to! His livliehood does not depend on another album, another hit, another tour. He's 61 years old and said in a recent interview that he knows his limitations, just like all of us at that age do! He referred to the good old days of insane touring as "back when we felt no pain".! Also, nothing would ever induce him to perform with Journey again.

  • azim band @ youtube

  • thank you, I really enjoyed that. My favorite singer but man do wish he would come back to journey, I would be a couple hundred to see them .

  • Steve Perry is a legend !!!!!!!!

  • @beepopalula hell yeah!

  • He's such a modest man.

  • @sosodefgurl1 YES: Steve Perry is a class act. I just wish he'd come out of "hiding", even just a little bit???

  • @sosodefgurl1 hes such a gentleman!

  • Look, I know you're not asking me, but Steve was so great a singer, became such a legendary vocalist, that the thought of coming back to be anything less than what he was seems to be something he will not accept and neither should you. I know I don't. Not everyone embraces mediocrity with the same level of ease. He seems to be that kind of a person and I respect him all the more for it. Knowing when it's over is a powerful quality to have.

  • agree with you, I grew up with Journey and Steve Perry's voice is iconic in rock history. To have him be less than a legend would be a let down for me.

  • love his voice. =)

  • Hell Froze over for the Eagles! What an awesome album too. WHy or does anyone know why Steve quit singing? I was a teenager in the 80's and was and still am a huge Journey fan. Still got a 331/3 vinyl album of theirs!

  • I still dont understand why he just stopped singing! What a gift to be given and to not use it really is a shame! He got rich and turned his back on his fans. Its a awful thing to say, but how else could you describe it? He could have easily continued a huge solo career if he was tired of Journey. I think their new singer Arnel is doing a fine job!

  • Oh, I wish I could explain but they won't give me anough room here! He did NOT turn his back on his fans; he was NOT tired of Journey, h's said it was "magic"---he was tired of the touring 5 nights a week, 10 months at a time year after year, he burned out emotionally loss of relationship, his mom's death) and then needed the hip replacement; he wanted a "life",etc. actually left the band twice: once by choice, once not. He always gave 110% of that, I agree, God given gift. There's so much more!

  • Finally - someone has told the exact truth...THANK YOU!! This is exactly what happened...and everything in life happens for a reason. JOURNEY would not have become SO GREAT without Steve Perry!!

We can enjoy his unique, magical, invigorating and legendary voice as often as we'd like. Steve has always been my favorite...and will be my favorite...forever.

  • we are born to grow old... and steve is great.... and he has a great pizza shop.... Love Steve...

  • I adore him & his music, BUT: he'll NEVER reunite with Journey; it's EXTREMELY unlikely he'll tour again even if he does release that rumored new solo CD; & don't bother trying to reach him. After 2 years of trying, and I've come CLOSE, no success: He guards his privacy like Ft. Knox, so don't waste your time. Or, good luck if you do!

  • My favorite singer ever and besides my husband...the one man I would love to give a kiss!!!

  • @OmavanJC Yah, you and me both! And I think my husband loves me enough that if I ever had the chance, he'd say "Go for it!"

  • where did you hear this

  • hey i ♥ journey but not without steve ! and plz add me and comment on my page ! journey will never be the same without steve♥ !

  • Yummy. He probably will never reunite with Journey but what good memories from back in the day...late 70s, early 80s had great rock.

  • @racers7 You're right, those were the "magic" years! No, he will NEVER, EVER join Journey---that ship has sailed. I wish him the very best and happiness for the rest of his life!

  • I just love to hear him talk. I wish that I could invite him over for dinner and just listen to him talk. Wow. What a life he must have led.

  • Love your channel! :)

  • Very cool interview i like how he explains the song

  • Thank you for sharing this interview! OMG! Great to hear "THE VOICE" of Steve Perry. This is awesome...

    JOURNEY~STEVE PERRY ON

  • You really are a stalker mrstupid09! Can't help follow "The Voice" now can ya!? lol...

Aaah, poor baby... Jealous! It's ok. We ALL know "THE VOICE" will NEVER fade!

Your idol will be forgotten and Steve Perry will be in the Rock & Roll hall of fame REMEBERED in HISTORY!

Just like this video says Steve Perry is "THE VOICE" of Journey! GET OVER IT!

    JOURNEY~STEVE PERRY ON!

  • I wish He could talk to me. He has a voice of an angel. I have been listenining to him since i've been 5 and he has avoice of an angel. I'm from Canada and would love to see Steve Perry in concert. Love to meet Him.

  • Another thing I love about Steve is he is so humble and doesn't let his fame go to his head.

  • @angeleyz63 He's a class act, absolutely. Have you ever seen/heard/read of him saying anything nasty about his former bandmates? I have not. On the other hand, you have Neal Schon, still letting it run out of his mouth.... after...all..these...decades!

  • way too much...

great interview by Steve...he always is such a great interview...could listen to him being interviewed all day long...hope to hear him singing soon!!!

  • i had to perform dont stop belevin at the circlevill pumpkin show and everybody went nuts

  • where is he? why he's stop performing?

he's the original in the Journey Band!

please tell me what he is up to or maybe he is going on solo...

More power to you Steve Perry

  • Well...he spent several years just have\ing a "life", spending time with family, friends...but writing. 1 yr. ago rumors of a new solo CD started: nothin' yet! We're ALL trying to patient!

By the way, he will NEVER sing with Journey again, and it's extremely unlikely he'll ever tour. He's 61 and has admitted himself in a recent interview that's it's a long way from the time when "we felt no pain"!! Just more music is enough, soon!

  • Dude, its so nice to hear hes vocie agian.

  • Thank you for this radiobroadcast and to perryswoman for her efforts in putting out Steve's voice out there. I will never get tired listening to this legendary voice. we are still here Steve ready to listen to you any time.. we love you...

  • THANK YOU FOR THESE RADIO BROADCASTS. We love them.

  • Perryswoman your awsome, where do you find this stuff?Im a Steve Perry fan 4 life and I love listening to his sexy voice......Marcella

  • Thank you PErryswoman for sharing this with us!!

Have you ever noticed that every time Steve is interviewed and is paid a compliment, he ALWAYS (after saying thank you, of course) gives credit to someone else, ALWAYS points the "attention" to someone else?? Now, THAT Is a humble and generous man!!

There aren't very many people out there like this--Steve Perry is one of a kind and is still awesome!!

Thanks again for sharing this with us!!

  • Steve sounded so happy and relaxed; much more comfortable than in many other interviews. Wonderful to hear his voice.

  • Thank you so much perryswoman for sharing this interview. It was awesome to hear Steve Perrys voice!

    Perry on...

  • Alright listen, I was born and raised in Detroit, this song came out when I was in 7th grade. There is a north, south east and west anywhere you stand on earth. In Detroit , South Detroit is considered Mexican town down by the Ambassador Bridge, very cool, seedy part of town, fits w/ the lyrics great. Every kid in Detroit had to be in when the streetlights came on , we kids considered ourselves the streetlight people, we love this song!! South Detroit is not Canada!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this!!!

  • thanks perryswoman...

  • Perryswoman when was this interview?

  • On Canada radio 7/20/09 ..was a good listening too :-)

  • Oh, wow. I didn't know it was that recent. Thanks.

  • What Steve says about how the crowd responds to the intro of "Don't Stop Believin'" is so true. When we (Arrival - A Journey Tribute) did it recently at X-Fest in Modesto, CA, and the piano intro started, people went absolutely nuts. Was an awesome experience!!! Glad to have shared it with the guys I got to share it with.

  • Thanks, perryswoman, for sharing this wonderful Steve Perry interview. And he sure sounds great, for he IS THE VOICE!!! AWESOME! =)

  • This is just awesome, I love this.
