OK, You asked for a change of music, so maybe this is a better choice... As previously mentioned, YouTube prevented us from using "Back To the Island" by Toots and the Maytals, so we had to choose something of theirs.... It looks like they've added many more choices since we originally posted, so here's a reggae alternative to the Irish sounding diddy. And this one is appropriately entitled for Montserrat, "You Just Can't Keep Me Down."
Shots taken from Bishop's View Road (minute 2:38) are close to my house Villa Evermay built by my parents in '76 and often rented to Air Studios from '79 to '89. Jimmy Buffet's group stayed at the house in '79 while recording. The Climax Blues Band also stayed at the house while on Montserrat recording the LP Real to Reel - on the inside cover is a photo taken from the balcony at sunset where the band and crew had set up tables and furniture for dinner. Three miles from the volcano dome, btw.
@Shells969 During your time living on The Rock, you must not have absorbed the Irish connection the island has. It's the only place outside of Ireland to celebrate St. Patrick's Day as a national holiday.... Hence the music.... Actually, we originally had Buffett's "I Don't Know Where I'm Going to Go When the Volcano Blows," (which Buffett wrote on island for his Volcano LP recorded at George Martin's Montserrat Air Studios) for the music, but YT removed it....
@Shells969 You just answered your own statement - Emerald Isle!!! Like Ireland, it's because the coastline looked similar. If you lived there you would surely know that?
omg well im suspose to do a presentation on montserrat and it seemed boring at first but i didnt realize that montserrat is so beautiful and interesting and i hope i get a A in my presentation
I went to school on Montserrat for 2 years......great video by mcdonald that shows how plymouth and island was before and after valcano.......it is also great that they have reguilt the northern part of the island...........I feel so sad for all the locals--they got virtually no help from their government(but the same is in the US with katrina--governments should be ashamed!!).........I hope Montserrat can be rebuilt---it is a beautiful island.......sincerely, kermie aka steve
Poor Montserrat! just read up about the history of the country, 13000 to 4500 population, so sad! hope the economy is rebuilt and the population grows again!
the capital, Plymouth has no residents in it because of the volcano. Montserrat is the smallest country in North America and has only 10,000 people living in it. (I did a report about it for school)
The song was recorded by Jimmy Buffet in Montserrat at "Air Studios" which was owned by George Martin (Manager of the Beatles) The studio was closed after hurricane Hugo hit in 1989
Canada does not celebrate ST.Patricks day by having a holiday on March 17

I used to live there. It was called the Emerald Isle.
But I don't know why they would play a song like this here, it is totally misplaced. Reggae or calypso or steel drum would be more appropriate.
