There are plenty of people who enter into the agreement of citizenship proudly.
You should consider your contract with society, under a constitution in states such as the US, the foundation upon which you can enjoy the legal groundwork which makes organized trade possible.

Then in the case of taxes, you wouldn't really say the tax payer owns property in the form of money they owe.
Just as in the case of a phone bill, you wouldn't say that the money in a checking account is property that Verizon is taking.
In both cases what we're really talking about is the payment of a debt.
