Americans like to take credit for "Winning the war", but we sat on our hands from 1939 to 1942, while the allies took their lumps. We forget that some of the damage from Hitler's bombing of London was visible until well into the sixties.
Ireland was never a country, it was a series of small kingdoms. The english were ordered by the pope to take control of ireland to stop the constant fighting between the kingdoms, and 'for the correction of morals and the introduction of virtues, for the advancement of the Christian religion.' - which they did.
The first 'king of ireland' was actually Henry VIII.
So please, stop being a two-dimensional cuntflap.
Ireland was NEVER a 'country' until the english made it one.
Máel Sechnaill mac Máele Ruanaid(died 27 November 862) was the first High King of Ireland long before henry viii was on the scene. I could call myself King of england but that wouldn't make it so.
He did not actually rule all Ireland though, did he? He simply had the allegiance of the majority of the Kings. Notice they were still called kings.
Henry VIII was the sole ruler, there were no other kings, with one central government and taxation. Don't compare tribal allegiences with a modern state.
Obviously Waffen SS......

Fox Movietone did the same thing in the US. I saw it on the show Lowell Thomas Remembers. It brought memories.

It's funny, clever and low-budget. Brits are good at that.
Somebody in Monty Python saw that and polished it a little.

innit not one bomb hit the USA's mainland
Thizalixa 2 years ago
Actually, Japanese bombs from balloons did hit the mainland. Didn't have any effect but it did happen.
VinceMillett 2 years ago
@Thizalixa Yeah but there are lots of times when Japanese and German submarines shelled targets in North America.
Not to mention 100's of ships lost just off both U.S coasts due to said submarines.

Of course, you need to be able to laugh at something when you're being bombed day in day out :o)

It's hard to see this as humorous now, but with all the shit the British endured around this time, I'd imagine everyone had a good laugh or two.
