In color is in my opinion, the best cheap trick album. when this album came out, it was an instant hit. the second half of the 70's gave us some of the best rock n roll of all time. from aerosmith to ufo, what a great time to be a teen.
Such a great song by them, no one does music like this anymore, thanks for posting this, I love Cheap Trick, please check out my video "Auf Wiedersehen"
"Oooooh you think of Jesus Christ......you walk on water, but don't bet your life." That is one of the best lines I've ever heard in a song. I've always admired Zander's vocal abilities, and I just love how he sings this particular song. I think this song is the best song they ever recorded. The melody is haunting.........turn the song up really loud, and the enchantment will embrace you.....
i hated the late 70's pop, but rick, bun, tom and robin's brand of rock/pop really hit me..... they really rock... i dont know who to compare them to, a lotta people said the beatles, i see that i guess..... but they were really unique.... great harmonies and riffs.....
haven't heard this since 77..I was stoned looking at the cover, the cool guy's on the front & nerds on the back..I just wasn't open to it... thought it was weird ? All I could think was "when do you put on the Zeppelin or Sabbath ?" Sounds great now... and, un stoned to boot ; )
@tjfreak Woodfield Mall! I grew up in Buffalo Grove, and went to Stevenson.Do you remember a chinese restaurant called Don Moy's it was on Algonquin Rd in Rolling Meadows. BTW you should check out Cheap Trick at the night Gallery in Waukeegan IL, it's an early promo video made when their first album was released pretty cool stuff you should enjoy.
@bmgfl The DM building is a real estate office, did you ever go to Haymakers @ Palwaukee plaza ? or the Edge water or Point east or The thirsty Whale.. lol ..all LONG gone...Woodfields bigger than ever, no Alley though ; )
@tjfreak The Alley! I saw Joe Perry Project at Haymakers when i was 18? I saw a friend's metal band at The Thirsty Whale a couple of years later. When I was first married I lived in an apt. on Rand Rd next to Chances R. I live in Florida now and can't find a decent Italian Beef Sandwich.
@bmgfl I played drums in a band at Haymakers a few times in HS,I saw MSG there when I was 18,I got a glimpse anyway..it was packed way beyond city code.I saw Lizzy Borden,Love Hate,Montrose,a local band Odette that was pretty good, & tons of metal bands at the whale b4 tear down.I saw Foghat at Chances R just b4 they closed & re- did that entire area, you wouldn't even recognize it now. I can find an excellent Beef..through the garden & into my gut : ) take care... last winter SUCKED !
@tjfreakMSG and Montrose both played Haymakers? I missed out on those shows! UFO was one of my favorite bands, saw them 4 times- Amphitheater, Alpine, Poplar Creek, and a reunion show in the city around 1995. The reunion show was the only time I ever saw MS live.BTW do you know a metal guitarist named Willie Max, he plays in an Alice in Chains cover band and is from the Rollong Meadows area,
@bmgfl go to beatsworking.tv/UFO/sf.html This is what UFO looked looked in 77 at Soldier field, we just moved from Buffalo NY, June, summer 77, UFO /Journey (infinity tour) my first Concert ,Obsession was released shortly after & I was hooked.I saw the NPTR tour at the Int. Amp (no MS ) MS was in Contraband (kinda lame) but I saw them at Poplar Creek just to see him. Never heard of Willie. Remember how big Off Broadway,The Houndz, Survivor & Styx were back then ?
I agree with both customlp and bresmith!!! Moment I heard Surrender I was hooked and haven't let go since!! Seen them in 79, 80-81( twice), 82( twice again), 85,86 ( twice yet again), 89( twice one more time), 97, and 2001!!!
I had this album...yes, on vinyl...and wore it out. This and Clock Strikes Ten were my favorites on the album...and I totally fell in love with Robin Zander and his voice. I was 7 when this came out. ;)

kind of between scenes, when the texas millionaires are coming and their plane is landing. i think. it's been a long time since I saw the movie. i think i need to pull it out and watch it!
Nice... when i was junior in high school this was my part of my pregame ritual. I'd lay on our dining room floor in the dark with big ole head phones and crank up "Downed." I got jacked up!

torahislife,
It wasn't the critics who under-rated Cheap Trick.
In fact, it was the critical acclaim that got to buy "In Color" in the first place.
They just couldn't sell many records until the live version of "I Want You To Want Me" made them too infectious to ignore.
Here's a big "THANK YOU" to Cheap Trick and The Knack (R.I.P. Doug Fieger) for slamming the final nails into disco's coffin in the summer of '79.

In my Top 5 of favorite Trick songs ever. Gorgeous slab of power pop.
I wonder if Motley Crue fans realize Crue copied the "Girls,Girls,Girls" cover from CT's "In Color". Paid homage is more likely.
