Lee Mack has said before that he's a non-tactile Northerner, but he seems quite happy to hug and touch people (on the arm or shoulder) on this show. I think that little hug he gives John after he fluffs his joke is so cute.
Rofl, they suck at this... it was so obvious that it was the Karaoke shop, John made it look like a really bad lie... and they took the bite directly!XD
"Shut up posh boy! I'm speaking!" ... "And furthermore if I can ask you to shut up this time you...you" "See you didn't have the guts to say you working class piece of scum, it's not quite as funny is it, that way?" "I actually didn't have the time to get it out, because you'd already interrupted" xD Love the way they argue xD
can't believe how much weight david's lost since this! and how rude was that faye ripley about the whole charity thing to john?! anyways, i love this show. it's better with rob brydon though.
I'm female but sometimes I agree. There is more male comedians than female and there is a reason for that. Though, there are some females comedians that are very funny. For example, I like Jo Brand cause I like her sarcasm and so on.
Actually, I myself am quite funny - or at least that's what my friends tell me...
Chris Hitchens has a cool theory that it became necessary for man's evolution to inherit a sense of humour, because while we'll shag anything and women need never go wanting, women have some standards (well on average). So it became essential for us - uh, how to put this delicately - UGLY FUCKS to have something - anything else - to make us attractive. I quite like that - takes the misogynistic edge off it. Though titling his article 'Why Women Aren't Funny' probably didn't help much.
Not always, there are some exceptions. But sometimes it's a case of having it programmed into your head women aren't as funny...so you expect it and cringe...
@123pegs123 I wonder sometimes if it has to do with the double standard that it is much more difficult for women to become famous if they aren't attractive, and while that's somewhat true for men it's not as strict. A lot of comediennes seem more self-conscious to me, which kind of kills the funny. Whereas funny women like Jennifer Saunders and Lucille Ball don't seem so worried. They'll get up in all kinds of makeup and costumes and situations that are hilarious rather than attractive.
@123pegs123 the other thing is the different reactions between the David-Lee sarcasm and then when Fay's sarcastic to John. She's obviously not serious, but people take it like she is. David could say the exact same thing and it'd be hilarious, and in fact he & Lee were being just as bad, but no one cared because they're both men and therefore they're not serious. Women also aren't as funny bc somehow they're not allowed to take the piss out of men without being seen as bitchy. It's weird.
men or people in general, really. we can't really take the piss out of each other and not have it be assumed that there's subtextual vindictiveness. Jo Brand is hilarious and awesome partly cos she just takes it out of everyone regardless. but she's almost built a category all her own. she can say things that would be shocking if they came from other women.
im sorry i disagree i take the piss out of girls constantly. but your right about the whole "there must be another reason" when we take the mickey outta guys. its also cos we are meant to be subserviant towards our men and not disrespectful
Yes, most people, actually. Of course most people identify themselves as heterosexual, but it is actually very rare to be 100 % gay or straight. Thus, most people are "bi" - more or less - even if they're not aware of it.
@Pullapitkomies isnt that a way of saying sexuality's a spectrum? in any case, i think the significance of labels like straight, gay, bi, etc. is for self-identification. i feel like being like "you're bi and you don't know it" even in a general sense is kind of like walking up to someone who identifies as bi and being like "actually you're straight and you just don't know it." it's a bit presumptuous. yes, the spectrum model's accepted, but choosing labels or not is up to each individual.
Exactly, the terms/labels are for self-identification mainly. Using specific terms is more suitable to human culture(s). This is why I stated that most people indentify themselves as heterosexual, although biologically they may not be straight. I'm just being pedantic. I do realize it's easier to just categorize when it comes to defining identity (and usually we ignore the very little things that have no effect to us in general, i.e., it's easy to toss ourselves to a specific category).
@Pullapitkomies hehe no worries, it's true, and i recognize the difficulty of discussing something this varied without labels, but on the other hand pointing out that it's rare to be purely gay or straight makes those labels almost meaningless in a general sense, whereas bi becomes simply a catch-all referring to practically everyone. each of those labels have cultural significance beyond a biological clarification that influences the way that people understand them when they're used, yknow?
@Pullapitkomies (in other words, i think biology needs new terms, and definitely more than three, in order to properly describe the complexities of human sexuality. they may well have them; i haven't studied biology in ages and ages so i really have no idea.)
Haha.... yeah, well she was proven wrong in the end wasn't she? Now she knows that John Barrowman is indeed the type of man who would do something like that for free.
I think she was too... and I don't think John really appreciated it either. There was something about hos look that implied he wasn't too happy with that, and a slight og grim 'What do you you say to that?!' look her way after the truth was revealed.... I don't know, but he did seem slightly offended. Whcih I can totaly understand! He's an amazing man who cares deeply for his fans, and that's exactly the type of thing he would do. To imply that only money could persuade him was uncalled for,
David Mitchell totally sounds like Nigel Thornberry.

Same everywhere. You will never find a comedy panel show with majority women. IN fact, more than one pretty much kills it.
