ok. i had no problems with the second section, which i did first. there was just an ass-load of red butterflies you had to dodge. took a long time, but was possible. the first one is NOT. it is way too long, and i can't finish it even when i dodge all of the red butterflies! i'm like 5 seconds short from the last one. it's fucking ridiculous.
I really hate how this otherwise awesome game is remembered more for it's piss-poor minigame design. I swear the red butterflies have a six foot radius hitzone, while the blues are the size of a friggin pinhead.
Being color blind doesn't help this very much. I've yet to sit down and really attempt it, but the few times I've screwed around with it, I think I hit every red butterfly. Lord help me.

In Final Fantasy, in particular, things are done so they look beautiful. The colors for the butterflies were well chosen, though they should shine a bit more. Final Fantasy needs these colors. Furthemore, you can always ask someone else to snatch the butterflies for you. I think you're being a bit selfish. It's not the developers' fault you're colorblind.

i don't get it... i did both of em... the first time i did the first one, i got a a friends sphere... when i did the first one again, i got an elixir... then when i went to do the 2nd one, all i got was a megalixir, and it won't let me do it again... do i have to leave macalania and do it again? ... where's the saturn sigil??
The last butterfly on the first section is a real bitch too. If you're not careful, you'll head into the next area and have to do it all over. Did it just now, and succeeded right after.....
I'm playing FFX for the 36th time and I found the chocobo race to be extremely easy as always, however since I'm mildly colorblind I will need to relearn the whole routes by heart for this one...

This, along with the Chocobo Catcher and lightning dodging, is bullshit. They should have been easy quests, like Rikku's Godhand or Auron's Masamune. The lightning quest is a perfect example of why people can't make games for shit. 200 dodges is a lot, 150 or even 160 should have been more than enough. Though I have already beaten all of these quests previously, I'm doing them all again (hopefully the Dark Valefor Glitch won't fuck my life up afterwards). Caladbolg powered, but 169 dodges FFFUUU

If the lightning bolt one was easy, then I assume you have a failproof strategy for getting 200 easily? Do tell, I was under the impression that it was both tedious AND difficult.
@4tehhorde Concentrate, REAAAALLY hard, and just somewhere out in the open. Have good reactions and keep doing it. Make sure you don't have any distractions and just go for it. I got it the first attempt. Actually dodged more like 250 or so just to be safe, cause I was afraid I might've lost count at some point. :/ It comes down to an individual's good reaction time. Oh, and also, have no encounters equipped, since so many bolts hit immediately after one.
I wanted to get the saturn sigil so bad that my characters were almost done with their first paths on the sphere grid by the time i finally got it lol O_O
I think I'm the only one that doesn't get pissed off at the requirements for some of these sigils. I mean the lightning dodging was relaxing (although my pulse went way up at the last 20 bolts to dodge). As long as you're in the right place, you'll get it done in 20 minutes, seriously.
I'm trying out this butterfly catching game and I almost got the last blue butterfly with 0.1 second to spare but I just wasn't fast enough. Still, I think it's fun, I have a map to help me though.

this game gets pretty frustrating, but compared to lightning dodging it's easy as hell I think... tidus's chocobo challenge thing is quite a lot harder too
@gokusp3 I found the Chocobo Race leaps and bounds easier than this infernal game, because at least getting hit by birds doesn't send you into an unescapable battle with obsolete fiends.
@Aldaraia666 well i was playing the butterfly game again and ya it does seem like it might be a bit harder than the chocobo games but its still not quite as hard as the lightning dodging. Also, you could just capture all the fiends you come into contact with (if you haven't already) that way your not just wasting time when you hit a red butterfly.

Remember when you finish the first butterfly race, to not run off the end of the screen in excitement. If you do (like me) it doesn't count and you have to do it again.

When I got my hands on an International Version, a few years later, I decided to try again. I was both surprised and angry (I think you'd understand why) to see that in the International Version 0:00:00 IS a valid time - no need to get anything below it.
I still think Ruby is the ultimate "ZOMG I GIVES UP" Final Fantasy challenge.
i figured it out. at the last bend you have to go throught them. you need to avoid the butterfly closest to the north ^ and head <<< then hug the tree as you go.
Why not just build your own better weapon anyway. The optional minigames for the "ultimate" weapons are pretty shit overall, and the best weapons are crafted. Better spending 100 hours in omega dungeon to level up and collecting beasts around all of spira to build weapons for everyone, not to mention will be more useful for legitimately defeating all the dark aeons.
yeah, I also hate game, same as for Tidus 0.00 time for Chocobo. if you have more than 5 sec ur time for the last 2 butteflies, its like those red ones stay close to each other, or even though you are still in a distance, a battle scene will occur...

No, to get the weapon, you need to follow this practically invisible cactus man across a field where lightning can smite the ever loving crap out of you.
The butterfly method makes the weapon suck less. Much, much less.

I agree, this guy is my hero! I just got this for my girlfriends game and about to get it for my game. I did learn however that on the second part of this, you are able to get into 1 fight and still make it on time. Thanks for the help!

@gokusp3 I played the mini-game and after loads of practice I finally beat it, its not as bad as I though I suppose although it was beginning to fry my mind. xD I never had too much trouble with the Chocobo Catcher for some reason, and I am not looking forward to lightning dodging as I was before o:

Remember when you finish the first butterfly race, to not run off the end of the screen in excitement. If you do (like me) it doesn't count and you have to do it again.

@KIngdomKeySRK Hm, I would compare both. The thing is: I've managed to get 0:00:00 like 5 times and then gave up, when playing the US version.
When I got my hands on an International Version, a few years later, I decided to try again. I was both surprised and angry (I think you'd understand why) to see that in the International Version 0:00:00 IS a valid time - no need to get anything below it.
I still think Ruby is the ultimate "ZOMG I GIVES UP" Final Fantasy challenge.

i figured it out. at the last bend you have to go throught them. you need to avoid the butterfly closest to the north ^ and head <<< then hug the tree as you go.

Why not just build your own better weapon anyway. The optional minigames for the "ultimate" weapons are pretty shit overall, and the best weapons are crafted. Better spending 100 hours in omega dungeon to level up and collecting beasts around all of spira to build weapons for everyone, not to mention will be more useful for legitimately defeating all the dark aeons.

yeah, I also hate game, same as for Tidus 0.00 time for Chocobo. if you have more than 5 sec ur time for the last 2 butteflies, its like those red ones stay close to each other, or even though you are still in a distance, a battle scene will occur...
this FFX is a very good game, yet the side quests are all unjusticeable!!!! Penance with 12M HP?!WTF?! even though not imposible to beat all of them, STIL!!!!! not all players (like me) are very good tatcticians to them T_T

apparently the butterflys have a triggering square and if you run on it it gets the butter fly without even having to walk into the butterfly

So in order to get the special weapon for the big bad Ronso fighter you have to catch butterflies in an enchanted forest, run over a glittering crystal road to a magical tree and then talk to that tree. Sounds like the text of a Rhapsody of Fire song to me LOL

No, to get the weapon, you need to follow this practically invisible cactus man across a field where lightning can smite the ever loving crap out of you.
The butterfly method makes the weapon suck less. Much, much less.
