  • im taking supercharged 5.3 for recam , and was think about new shaft for insuance ...  i called driveshaft speclist south tx. 3day turn .....he quotted ne a 5in. aluminum shaft is good for 1000 ft lbs ..which the are running on big tq. diesels trucks

  • It's not really that impressive, head on over to performancetrucks .(dot) net. The stock driveshaft on a silverado isn't rated to 130+ and will almost always fail at those speeds on a dyno. We have several threads of this happening. It's not too much power, it's just too much speed, any silverado that's got a tune to turn off the factory electronic governor.

    Regardless, those are some good dyno numbers.

  • was the driveshaft covered under factory warranty? when my forward sprag went out in my transmission they rebuilt it for free not a single penny out of my pocket

  • i know how you feel. i have a 2008 ext cab 5.3 liter with programmer only and i lost the forward sprag in my transmission and lost 1st and 2nd gear and it spent a week in a dealership gettin fixed. the transmissions and driveshafts need some beefin up from the factory i think. what you think i would be running in the 1/4 with a good intake, and custom tune, and catback exhaust? with the superchips alone i am running the 1/4 in 15.5 and 0 - 60 is around 7.5 seconds.

  • i saw your dyno.i have ana luminum drive shaft...what would happen to that super soft thing on the dyno lol

  • i fyou had an aluminum shaft it would have failed a lot sooner ,,, i diddnt get a built one just another steel one i never had any problems with it till the dyno pushed it to over 135mph ...and a few other factors made it snap ... the truck was strapped down a bit tight changingint the pinion angle

  • @M3SRT the AL shaft would not break, you are exceeding the rpm for that shaft , you need to go to AL. . . There is a reason those trucks come speed governed. . .

  • It would have been funny if the broken jagged driveshaft would have ripped through the floorpan and spun right up into the driver's butthole. How awesome would that have been? :-)

  • the funny thing is ur a dumbass for putting all that power in the engine and not getting a driveshaft, tranny, and rear end to handle the power if you change 1 thing you HAVE TO change every thing or you will fuck up every thing see if you were a smart person you would know like my s10 i rebuilt the engine with performance part i also put a performance clutch, a 4:11 positive traction rear end, and heavy duty drive shaft so i can get the most out of it and so i can save money on repairs

  • Truck has been under warranty, so I think his philosophy is prolly the same as mine on new vehicles....If it breaks, LET GM FIX IT!!  LOLOLOL

  • Ugh, so sad. JasWarLea might have a point about this only happening to the regular cabs,  slightly shorter wheelbase means a more aggressive angle for the driveshaft. Even though it didn't fracture at the joint, flexing of the tube could be increased by the steep angle.
