  • is that an old pc

  • Great collection yet it would be interesting to hear the same tunes there in comparison to their SID versions, even if this would be not favorable for the little CPC :)

  • Good selection, mate!

Golden Axe's music was a favorite of mine, at the time. EPIC!

  • Sorry, not i 've said SID file, but it was YM file. Nobody ?

  • Hello, (sorry for bad english, i'm french) all my youth here, just a question : what is the music at the end, isn't it from BSC Mega Demo ?

I'd like to know its title, and where can i download the "sid" file.

    thanks

  • - Mask 3 / Venom strikes back intro music (J. Dave Rogers)

    - Marauder ingame music (Ben Daglish)

  • when i had amstrad cpc464, i got car speaker and wired it up . fed the cables through one of the air vent slit and cut wires to the crappy little built in speaker and joined them up, it made it a lot better, brouder sound and a fair bit louder too.

  • Hehe, brings ya back doesn't it?

  • @NaptownBorn Hiya pal, you checking up on me mate ? :-)

  • @8824snipe Heh, I commented when ya sent me the link to the vid awhile back bud.

  • @NaptownBorn Stalker ;-)

  • @8824snipe What? We don't all have pyscho-delusional-compulsive disorders?

  • @NaptownBorn So im the only one ;-) damn .

  • @8824snipe Yeah... you were supposed to join the rest of us crazies a long time ago. ;) Stay sane.

  • @NaptownBorn Still here Pal ;-)

  • It all depends on the music/composer, but some tunes are better on the 1MHz AY of the CPC, some better on the higher pitched Speccy and some better on the C64's SID.

I love my chiptunes, and this a great example of the CPC's AY chip.

  • Man... compare the c64 and CPC versions of Spellbound... the C64 version tries too hard and fails miserably to beat the CPC version!

  • Well, SID was of course more powerfull, yet sometimes I prefer AY versions to SID versions.

Also the lower CPC sound is less aggressive to my ears than Speccy's, more Basses...

And it wasn't only a matter of soundchip, but also a matter of composer.

  • Nice video. Both sound comparable but nothing can match the sound of a Atari Pokey chip. Atari 8-bit looked and sounded better then C64 and it was older.

  • The C64's soundcapabilities were superior to amstrad, even though the atari was graphically at par with the c64. However, it is a LOT better than the Spectrum48 with its pc speaker beeperish sound capabilities ;)

  • compare the AY to the SID?...CPC sounds like a childs toy

  • they both sounds not bad. go watch some spectrum demos...

  • By the way, AY that was in CPC, was clocked by 1MHz, so it sounds lower than ZX Spectrum's AY that clocked from 1.75Mhz. So for me ZX Spectrum sounds better...

  • the Amstrad's chip doesn't even come close to the warm/deep/analogue-like sound of the SID.

    Sorry.

  • Alright! Alright! Talk about rubbing salt in the wound.

  • Great vid and music. Thank you.

  • Never been a big fan of chip music. It all gets to sound very samey to me. But, it is a pity that you left out THE BEST chip tune I have heard and that is Agent X 2. That really broke the mould for me regarding chip music went. But, I guess people are only hear for the memories, not the music. I love the animations on this vid though. Played it twice, once with its own music, and once with Amiga modules, and sorry its LOADS better with Amiga modules! Amiga Modules rock!

  • The best tune is by far, the first level of Xyphoes Fantasy (1991)

  • Bad Dudes (aka Dragon Ninja) is my favorite tune.

    Great video!

    Thanx!

  • The Vindicator and H.A.T.E tunes were my favorites. Nice to hear them again. See my videos for the remixes of Target Renegade, Cauldron 2, Elevator Action, Ramparts if you like.

  • memories com back... it wonderful:):)

  • Kong Strikes Back/Monty on the Run. STILL hum them 20-odd years later!!!

  • Agree, Platoon had awesome tunes. I especially liked the tunnels on level 2.

Also suggest Batman the movie, and Dragons Lair 1 & 2.

  • cool, danke..........

  • The CPC had a YM chip, not an AY chip.

  • AY DUDE! YM is the plackback

  • Oh. Actually, I was thinking of the Atari ST's YM chip, but got the computers mixed up in my head through a convoluted thought process that I don't quite remember. Yes, it is the AY. Sorry for my mistake.

  • this is alien tech

  • I liked the tunes from Eden Blues too...Krafton & Xunk...Tensions...Rocky Horror Picture Show...Jet Set Willy...Renegade...Cauldron 2...The Thing that Springs...Crazy Cars III...and the weird silence of Spindizzy...

  • Maybe I'll include 'em in the next vid.

  • YEAH ! thanx.

  • Nice job, dude.

Platonon and Robocop themes were the 2 bests ones on the CPC.

2 awesome games, but incredibly hard!

  • Wow, all those memories of playing some of these games came back...

  • Great work! THX :D

  • awesome dude....... some real cpc gems u put in this vid which game tunes u thinking of putting in the sequel ?????
