The Irish War of Independence and the Troubles are two completely different conflicts - the issue in Northern Ireland concerned civil rights for Catholics, rather than the entire population wanting 'freedom'. The British Army was brought in because they were seen as a 'neutral' peace-keeping force in comparison to the Loyalist local law enforcement.
That arrangement went tits-up for a number of reasons - Bloody Sunday mainly.
Regardless of Bloody Sunday or the IRA's own atrocities upon civilians, the issue is dead anyway. The Good Friday arrangements took place, the IRA was disbanded and the British Army left. There is no 'occupation' in Northern Ireland.

The Irish War of Independence and the Troubles are two completely different conflicts - the issue in Northern Ireland concerned civil rights for Catholics, rather than the entire population wanting 'freedom'. The British Army was brought in because they were seen as a 'neutral' peace-keeping force in comparison to the Loyalist local law enforcement.
That arrangement went tits-up for a number of reasons - Bloody Sunday mainly.
