The satin sheets opening always got a bad rap, but that is one gorgeous piece of music by Lee Holdridge. I always thought that at some point the show would keep that theme but change the visuals to actual cast members like they do today. Alas, we'll never know what that could have looked like.
Thanks for the info :) I didn't start watching OLTL until 1985 during the summers of my teen years but my Mom used to watch All My Children when I was really little so I remeber Love in the Afternoon commercials and watched it through graduating college in 1997. The only soap I have time for now that I work all the time is Days, but I do miss Dorian. Kate on Days could take lessons from Dorian LOL
That was cool. Definitely the satin sheets one was the worst. It looked like a really cheesy commercial. I like the current theme the best, but the Peabo Bryson one is good too. I liked the second to last one the most cause it had N
Weren't those lyrics awful? It seemed like they were conjured up at the last minute to fit the tune, instead of how it should have been composed - lyrics first, then the tune.
You're right. When I got your comment I checked it again. I guess I was so into the muzak, I never noticed whether the sun was rising or setting (LOL) Now that I think of it, at 3 in the morning, it would've been fun if the closing credits were just the opening credits run backwards - with a backwards masked subliminal message: "Do NOT watch All My Children!"
@Cyclops236 The music is, of course, another story. The satin sheets montage may look funny, but the music is really nice. It sounds like some experimental new-age stuff I stumbled on in the late 80's - early 90's. The only two pieces I didn't care for were the disco-pop (with and without lyrics) and the light-rock tune with the guitar.
@ClarenceFisher THANK YOU! Then executive producer, Linda Gottlieb, was quoted in Soap Opera Digest as saying the opening was supposed to emphasize how "romantic" the stories and the show was. It may have been THE worst TV opening EVER. The logo design was interesting, but the music and images sucked!
The 1984-91 version and the 1995-2000s intros were the best OLtL intros.
The one used from 1968-mid '70s seemed very creepy, considering the original show's title name was supposed to be called "Between Heaven and Hell" but was still unique in a way.
Excellent! I will always love the Peabo Bryson version. It was great seeing the original characters and then you see their replacements in later episodes. Thank you for this. :)
I always found the satin sheets opening lurid and cheesy. Soft porn. It made me embarrassed for Viki and Dorian. Not so much for Rene.

Why are the openings more interesting than the shows these days?

Is it just me, or was the sunrise montage a slightly off-key version of Our Day Will Come?
ClarenceFisher 2 years ago
I hated it when OLTL went disco!
ClarenceFisher 2 years ago
weren't the ones with the sunrise during the Love In The Afternoon days?
DanIN72 2 years ago

I remember when they changed to that one from the song with the words...fans complained to ABC for months, but to no avail.
I remember all the ones after the sunrises up through the 90s...stopped watching it after college (graduated in 97)

THe sunset ones were nice - but that satin sheet one - UGH - it looked like a laxative commercial.
ClarenceFisher 2 years ago
you mean the sunrise ones.

@ClarenceFisher I agree with you on that one but I'll credit the music on all of them however. I want to know your opinion on the music as well.

The 1975-80 and 1980-84 versions were OK.
The Satin Sheets intro, I could of done without.
