  • It was actually found that he was traveling at or near 55.

  • Whatever he got pulled over and let his pride have the best of him. Also he was told the car looked sinister and he would die if he drove it by a friend a week before. So sad. RIP Jimmy

  • Today is September 30th when Jimmy died. I drove all the way from St.Sault Marine to see his grave. So,of course, it was the middle of the night when i arrived. So, i slept right out of the cemetry. I thought he was the cutest person on earth. I have a picture of it.And i thought indiania was the uglyiest state that i visited. I was on my home from a job going to Louisiana.I stopped in Michigan. I saw a 500lbs.claim. Boy, that would make a lot of claim chowder.

  • I'm playing with this car on Forza O_o it's a Porsche 955 right?

  • The car seems out of place for the fifties.

  • There was no 55 mph limit anywhere then in the USA !!!

    us Sparky!!!

  • MAN. This makes me mad.

  • Who the hell would ever get in a car with James Dean behind the wheel.

  • mysteriousreality: Please READ my post. Then go to "James Dean Crash-The Truth". There is a great (quick) photo of the OLD intersection at 4:23. From the perspectiveof Turnupseed, the Dean car crosses his path to Fresno from the coast. Dean pulled into Turnupseed's path. The Highway was realigned years after the crash because most traffic goes to Bakersfield (Deans path) not Fresno. This change has confused many commentators and videographers, unfortunately.

  • @Thinrich19 How did Dean "pull" into Turnipseed's path? Dean was going straight. He didn't "pull" anywhere. Turnipseed was turning left. Left ALWAYS yields. This was witnessed by at least 2 people and Turnipseed himself said that he was turning. How could they get confused regardless of what they've done to the intersection now?

  • to much pot smoking

  • why they call ghost busters?

  • @TheJamesdean11 Does anyone know and can please tell me what Turnupseed was doing after the cars collided? I heard he was found wandering around in a daze? Did he go over to see Dean and Rolf or did he just stay by his car??

  • @MrThebest44 He was - apparently gave his story to CHP and then started walking down the road and was later picked up by a guy who told him getting late and not safe - assuming he was hitchhiking. Apparently never talked about the accident since giving the required info to law enforcement.

  • Does anyone know and can please tell me what Turnupseed was doing after the cars collided? I heard he was found wandering around in a daze? Did he go over to see Dean and Rolf or did he just stay by his car??

  • Being a huge fan of Dean's and reflecting on the way he died, I have came to the conclusion that somehow he always knew he would die young.

  • 55 years ago...a bad day

  • RIP JAMES DEAN.♥ 55 years ago today at 5:59 pm we lost you in a such a terrible tragedy. It will be Forever Autumn without you and you are forever missed. ♥

  • my dad worked for turnupseed back in the 90s before he died

  • how dare these people wreck ANOTHER 550....even if it was a replica. :( RIP James Dean, one of my mentors.

  • They were really both at fault. But it was in reality, an accident. It would have been ruled the same today. They both were negligent with slightly more fault by Turnupseed for not yielding the right of way. He was in a hurry to get home with cars behind him, so he took a quick look and hung the left without slowing much if at all.. Never even saw Dean until the last minute. It was like missing a motorcycle but even harder to see I think and,he was still a young driver. Cars were BIG then.

  • Comment removed

  • Bottom line is Deans car was VERY low. I've stood by a model of this car. In those day's you just didn't see cars that low, it was low and small for even these days. Turnupseed was in a tall car and had hung that left many times. He had built that car up some in the engine but it was a tall big heavy boat of a car and once he commited to that hard fast left there was no way either could do a thing about it. He didn't see him Dean was coming too fast and didn't anticipate upcoming driver mistakes

  • Even though Dean was killed, his passenger/ mechanic survived and later quoted Dean's last words as "He has to stop...he's already seen us." Not what I'd call a good driver. The way he came about his untimely death is what's made him a legend....he really wasnt that great of an actor yet, the movie "Giant" was his best part and it wasnt THAT great.

  • This 'recreation' misses a vital point. The intersection was rebuilt years later. Highway 46 teed into 41 then, Now it's the opposite. Turnupseed had the right of way. The Dean car turned across his path. Against the right of way. Tragedy, but don't blame the wrong guy. Look up 'James Dean's Crash-The Truth?' and scroll to 4:23. You can see the way the intersection was in 1955. Very different than now. That's why the Highway Patrol didn't cite Turnupseed. Big loss in any case.

  • @Thinrich19 They shot the remake a few miles from the the actual site since it is no longer the way it was in 55. the spot they found looked very similar I was told by the producers.

  • @Thinrich19 wasnt the famous stunt driver 'Bill Hickman RIP' one of the first at the accident

  • @Thinrich19 First of all Dean wasnt turning. Not sure where you got your information but seems to be incorrect

  • Seems fairly simple. I own a Delorean which like Dean's Porsche is very low to the ground and bare metal. That combination with the sun and the car often vanishes and blends into the road. I have had so many people change lanes on me and pull out in front of me I always run with my headlights on and have to be extra cautious.

  • Im 61 years old, never had a accident, you know why? Because I dont trust anyone to follow the rules of the road. I put my foot on the brake pedal when I think there is a remote chance that some idiot will spoil my day. All of you with cell phones crossing the center line and running off the edge of the road keep me alert all the time. I live by his grave site, girls kiss his tombstone, people lay on him and get there pictures taken. Dean thought, I have the right of way, He was dead right.

  • If he had slowed down he would've lived, but he was to hard headed.

  • To finish what I was saying below. If James had just slowed down to see what that guy was going to do, maybe he would have had time to stop or if not, maybe they wouldn't have collided so hard that it would have ended in James death. Just food for thought here. A very terrible ending for such a beautiful soul. RIP James Dean <3

  • Personally, I think this whole tragic event could have been avoided or at least not ended in tragedy. Obviously, Turnupseed was distracted and when he realised he was about to miss his turnoff, he just reacted without thinking and went for his turn, but James should have slowed down when he saw Turnupseed's car in the distance. He should have thought, maybe I should slow it down a bit just in case this guy does something stupid. You gotta drive defensively.

  • some people are like this, stefan bellof (racing driver )was like this, maradona is like this ,cristiano ronaldo is like this,it is a way of life on top or nothing ,but it is no the right way.

  • why the hell did that car swerve into him!?!?!

  • @redheadonfire2 he was wanted to turn left and he didnt see deans car

  • he truly did live fast & die young...what a brutal way to leave this world.

  • I hope he has not suffered...what do you think about it? I can´t see this video :(((

  • i hate ´50 ford and porshes....RRRRrrrrr i just want Jimmy alive :((

  • Why wasn't Turnupseed (what a name) even cited for anything when it was obviously his fault, and another man was killed as a result of his negligence?

  • @73849309378 it wasnt negligence mate it was an ACCIDENT

  • @dvddave2 It was both. When your not paying attention to your driving, or anything else your doing for that matter, that involves operating machinery or something that can endanger others, it is negligence. It was a wide-open intersection with nothing blocking the view of oncoming traffic. Turnupseed said he didn't see him. WTH?

  • Comment removed

  • @73849309378 read what litterboxdiorama wrote, it's spot on

  • @dvddave2 No it's not spot on. What are you people talking about? If you pull right in front of someone and cause a fatal accident, it is criminal negligence on your part. You're supposed to WATCH where you're going, other vehicles (defensive driving), and anticipate any possible upcoming hazards.

  • @73849309378 he pulled left not right. investigations have shown the setting sun played a part in the accident as it made deans car invisible and you also have to remember deans car was like a toy, it was very low to the ground compared to the ford. Even deans freinds said that deans was car was impossible to see and it would have been hard to see in the sun.

I'm not defending turnupseed im just saying people want his head but is isnt as simple as just saying how did he not see him.

  • @dvddave2 True, but even so, mitigating circumstances do not justify or excuse an offense. At most, they can reduce the severity of the charge.

  • @73849309378 Can I ask if you were turnupseed how would you feel?

  • @dvddave2 Your point is well taken. I admit he no doubt felt horrible. And he's no longer around to defend himself. But neither is Dean, who's life was cut way short. Turnipseed went on to live another 40 yrs. All I'm trying to say is Dean had the right-of-way and Turnipseed was supposed to yield the right-of-way. Sometimes all it takes is a moment's carelessness.

  • @dvddave2 I'm not sure. I don't know of any in my area. Not to change the subject, but YT is getting worse all the time. I get "Error, try again" messages often when trying to comment, or my comment gets posted twice, and now I can't even delete my comments.

  • Donald Turnupspeed should have been cited. He was at fault. He was guilty of Vehicular Manslaughter. It STILL makes me so angry. ( Yes, I am old enough to remember this ! ) But, if he had survived he would have been crippled, scarred and brain damaged. BUT, Jimmy Dean was... Well, this may sound cruel... Can you IMAGINE an 80 year old James Dean ? I'm sorry. I just can't.

  • @azurekittie He misjudged the turn, it happens everyday and people die as a result. What sucks for Turnupseed is that he crashed into james dean, if he crashed into a normal person no one would have given a shit, it would have just been "another" accident.

  • brutal recration!!!

  • James Dean wasn't speeding. He was traveling at about 55. He tried to swerve around the Ford. The other driver was about to make a left turn; he was definately at fault. Jimmy's last words were--- "He's got to see us ! " ...SO SAD. This video is an excellent re-creation. Thanks.

  • little bastard

  • I wouldn't know but I suspect the CHP took some.

  • I know this may sound morbid , but are there any photos of James Dean's body at the crash site?.

  • @jonquil4000 no but ill describe to you so u will get the picture.

his face hit the really small windshield and the windshield split hi face crosswise from the bridge of his nose.

  • Jimmy, you are cooler than James dean ever was! I look forward to boneing you next year in fairmount.

  • so is elvis! and tupac and biggie!

  • i was passing the porsche dealers on the 229 bus...my eyes nearly popped out of my head when i saw a silver porsche 550gt spyder and a silver 356 speedster...the very next day i went back and politly asked the staff if i could have a closer look at the two porsches....i asked a smartly dressed woman if i could take some photos she said yes..she even snapped me along both cars....she said both cars are on loan from a museum in germany..the 550 gt spider is insured for one million pounds.

  • James Dean knew he was going to die young , i believe it was his time to go , his mechanic survived ..

  • Never heard of James Dean , i don't believe it..

  • Never heard of him? What a shame...

  • @PoorPaintProductions don't forget most of his movies were released posthumously, so that explains why.

  • @lovesexpistols134 , I thought everyone had heard of James Dean! He introduced blue jeans to the world! Rest in peace Jimmy!

  • the Porsche 550 Spyder eventually went out of production in 1956 (the year after James Dean died). it's successor - the Porsche 718 - was released in 1958 and built in 1962 and is still around today. rip Jimmy!

  • God have mercy.. James..

    thanx 4 vid :")

  • what the fuck!!!!!!!!!! the accident was partly caused by dean's speeding but the main cause was because some assholde was turned, driving in front of him. what a waste of a life and career! if that driver hadn't been such an ass, dean'd probably still be alive today, hence the fact he wouldn't be very big today. rip jimmy. we know it wasn't your fault.

  • The other driver was abnormal unpunished? He should be arrested! How does he change direction without warning?! He was blind? He didn´t know the highway code? What a horrible thing! Jimmy knew what he was doing very well on the road! He did not deserve that stupid accident ... just because there are stupid people on the road!

Sorry for my tone, I am even angry with this!

Today i picked a fine that I find unfair and will not pay! :(

  • @albertomfs The truth is, Dean was being cocky with his new toy going too fast and assuming everyone would see him driving a car no bigger than a sofa doing 70mph. When your driving a car made of tin foil and the other cars are built like tanks, you need to be considerate to the likelyhood that others are not going to be expecting you. Turnupseed likely seen Dean but didn't have enough time to judge his approching velocity, or whatever it was that was approching, and went for it.

  • @LitterboxDiorama The officer that responded to the scene of the accident said Dean was probably doing about 55 MPH. Get your facts straight.

  • @albertomfs The Ford, as many cars of the time had poor brakes and no power steering or power brakes. Worse is that they didn't have first gear syncros which made an open intersection a go,no-go situation. Turnupseed would have had to see Dean, judge Deans velocity, judge his own speed before missing his turn off, be cautious the car behind him was slowing, and decide whether if he could stop or just make it, all in a split second. A simple, common misjudgement, not by any malicious intent

  • @LitterboxDiorama very well said mate, I agree 100%. People blame and swear at turnupseed but they dont understand anything about cars and intersections

  • @LitterboxDiorama Nobody said it was malicious intent. But it was obviously carelessness on Turnupseed's part. He crossed into Dean's lane. You're supposed to wait until it's clear before making a left turn, plain and simple.

  • @albertomfs I know right and everybody on here is saying james should have slowed down and all this crap when it wasnt even his fault the other car came into his lane!! James raced cars he knew what he was a good driver! he didnt deserve to die he had so much more talent to show us!!

  • @albertomfs Chill out dude. I happened half a century ago and DEAN was probably at fault speeding.

the other driver was turning into Hwy 41 North.

it happens ALL the time at intersections like that one.

Same on Apple blossom highway NORTH of L.A.

  • @Mapanatl Dean was only going 55mph

  • What bullshit. The accident had nothing to do with excessive speed, like they are trying to insinuate here. He died because some asshole turned in front of him.

  • what a waste of a perfectly good Porsche

  • If you're referring to the video itself, it was probably a kit car, or a cheap replica.

  • No, I was referring to the real car. No one cares about a kit car.

  • Just think, if the cop didn't stop him he'd be alive today.

  • "Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today" RIP James

  • Someone was even there to extend a warning of slowing down...but it was not heeded. This is what makes the difference in life...and death. Heed the warnings...you usually get them for a reason.

  • his estimated speed was 55 mph

  • A very good replication of the events of that day in 55. The cars and the accident. The "Little Bastard" did eventually disappear over many years, fact then grew into ledgends. 5 Stars.

  • i love them yankee cars!

  • 1955

  • Highway 46 and 41 is still a dangerous intersection. I have gone through it a few times heading east to Blackwell's Corner. Back in a little town named Cholame. That is where the James Dean memorial is. Near a restaurant out in the middle of nowhere.

  • It was on the National Geographic Channel

  • Where can I watch the full documentary??

  • @Ubeans2001 You can find the documentary on you tube, just type "Little bastard" it has 6 parts.

  • i like the music in this video... !!!

  • me three!

  • man, what I'd do for a 550 porsche spyder like he had.

  • me too!

  • It's so sad because everytime I drive to the beach I have to pass the place he died. :(

  • dont they call the car cursed?

  • nardp96 No it was called a Porsche Spyder 550

  • no i mean they say the car is cursed. i kno the name of the car. like they sold the parts and the people that bought the parts ended up getting into really bad wrecks.

  • oh sorry yes you are right,i see what you mean.............

  • it was named little bastard and it was "cursed" through transporting it from place to place, it cause various several near deaths and accidents throughout the span of a few decades.

  • Yhay ain't true man...it is fault of the people who don't drive safe.

  • yes.

  • Hey Gary, did you happen to notice that the ambulance in the original photo at the crash scene, was a Buick. Venti-ports can be seen on it's front fender.

    Thanks for the kool video.

  • Yes, I did notice that!

  • But they blow-up real good!

  • Porsche 550 A spyder. sex in the 50's.

  • That was the one used for the close ups but what was crashed were painted up Karmen Gias to look the real one.

  • karmen ghias suck but 550 a's are sweet ass cars.

  • They used a couple of Karman Gias

  • A shame that they actually smashed those cars to recreate it!

  • Maybe, maybe not, smashing a Ghia is no biggie compared to smashing a 550.

  • well, I was was feelin for the '50 ford, it wasn't bad.

  • Screw the cars. IT WAS JAMES DEAN.

  • james dean is forever young...

  • James Dean would have been 77 years old today if it wasn't for car accident.

TOO YOUNG TO DIE. TOO WILD TO LIVE!

  • he would have turned to 78 on Sunday February 8.

  • this gave me goosebumps...in a great loss, he rose again as a legend!! rip james

  • May he rest in peace.
